It's not necessarily a must as there are other ways to watch live news but if you have a TV that's not smart then it's something to consider.

Over a Chromecast Ultra, I like having a remote and onscreen guide. But my video freezes often and the whole system seems a bit unfinished. I don't like having to see services I don't subscribe to with no way to hide them. Also, stadia doesn't work on google tv. I may go back to Chromecast Ultra.

Stay tuned to our social channels—Stadia functionality is coming in the first half of 2021. Given the success of Chromecast, we wanted to ensure the experience is right for our users before adding gaming functionality.
We also recommend performing the following steps to try and isolate the video freezing issue:
- Ensure that your Chromecast is connected to your 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Remove other connected devices on your Wi-Fi network and see if you will still encounter the same issue. Should you verify congestion, then we recommend contacting your internet service provider for resolution.
- We recommend a Wi-Fi network with 25 Mbps download speed that can ensure smooth 4K experience.

The Google Chromecast became my tool of choice for non-smart TVs that I owned. Having a Google device that works well with YouTubeTV is important. They work great.

It does take a bit of time to update when you first get it, so have time for that. Definitely worth getting this. It has most streaming apps on there.

This version has come out and it is amazing. So many features that are intuitive especially if you have a Google ecosystem. Even if you have a smart TV this will make your TV even smarter. Do it.

It was a relatively easy setup since most of my TVs are not smart TVs. They all work fine and easy to use with great pictures. I wish I had done it sooner.

It has all the streaming apps you want and provides access to browsers and file explorers to access content on your home network. It supports usb hubs as well for added peripherals like keyboards/mice, usb drives or a physical network jack.

Only downside is if you’re using a service that needs to download a specific amount of data to be stored then you might need a USB-C hub and a usb drive. But if you mostly do streaming of standard apps then you’re fine.
