Customers are saying

Customers commend the ROG Zephyrus M16 for its impressive performance, stunning display, and crisp graphics. However, some users report experiencing significant fan noise and heat generation, particularly during gaming. Concerns were also raised regarding battery life and the keyboard's design. While the lightweight design is appreciated, potential buyers should consider these trade-offs.

Came in great condition, no dead pixels or backlight bleed. Had it for over a month and it’s CPU and GPU performance is amazing for intensive programs, video editing, etc. Silent mode is extremely silent (no fan noise) and appears ~75% performant compared to its max CPU power. So I have no fear about the fan getting loud if I need to use the computer around others or in quiet environments. Havent run into any problems with overheating, but I mainly use CPU hungry programs and dont play any super intensive GPU games. The display is quite colorful and bright, and the laptop material does absorb oils/fingerprints over time but its not problematic -quite easy to wipe from time to time.

The screen is amazing, exactly what I wanted. Everything is so vivid. I do some gaming on it and it works fine. I do recommend getting a cooler for it like the Targus laptop lap chill pad but its a gaming laptop after all. I've no issues with its. Its quick to load , slim, relatively light for a gaming laptop. It makes me smile when I turn it on.

After spending 24 hours with this laptop, I want to offer some thoughts about whether it might be right for you. My main usecase is music production. I am replacing an i7 9700f desktop with this laptop. When using Ableton Live along with many CPU-heavy plugins, projects that once required 75-85% cpu usage are now using 55-65%. I consider that a clear win; moving from a big desktop system to a 4 pound laptop while still gaining 20-25% in performance is incredible. This is in performance mode. Ultra mode doesn't seem to offer much more performance for this particular usecase, and the fan noise isn't worth the tiny bump in performance. Fan noise while running Ableton in performance mode is pretty quiet, certainly much quieter than my desktop and not a distraction to recording music. My gaming results are in line with what you will find on YouTube reviews. Yes, Ultra mode is pretty darn loud, and yes, when gaming, the chassis near the power button gets pretty hot. Like most people, I game with headphones on, so the noise isn't a problem for me. However, ultra mode does not seem well optimized. Simply activating ultra mode kicks the fans into high gear, even if the laptop is idle. Asus will hopefully update this. A custom fan profile is probably the best course of action, but I haven't done that yet. Gaming on performance mode is still quite good for a laptop, and it does run a bit cooler and a bit quieter. For basic web browsing and productivity, the laptop is insanely fast. The fastest I've ever used. It also runs mostly quiet for these tasks. A couple times while installing software, the fans kicked up loudly for a short time before returning to a soft hum. Everyone's tolerance for fan noise is different, but I personally find the fans acceptablly quiet most of the time. The screen is bright, beautiful, and fast. Love it. Zero complaints. Some have complained of backlight bleed, and I have one very small bit of bleed along the bottom bezel. Very minimal and doesn't bother me. That said, it might be a crapshoot whether or not you get bad backlight bleed because it does seem to be an issue for some people. Worst case scenario: you return it for another one, though that is a hassle. The speakers sound great. I originally bought an M1 MacBook Pro before returning it for this Asus. To my ears, the Asus sounds just as good as the MacBook, and both are light-years beyond any laptop I've ever owned. Pretty incredible, actually. The keyboard and trackpad are excellent. I am a college professor, and typing long documents is common for me. I need a great keyboard, and this is one for sure. Not quite as good as the keyboard on the MacBook Pro, but not far behind either. The trackpad is big and fluid. No complaints. What can I say? It's a phenomenal laptop that will meet my music and productivity needs wonderfully. I hope this review helps you decide if it will be right for you.

Going to start of with addressing the misleading info and bad reviews. It was clearly stated on the website that this laptop ram config was 8x8 with 8 gig soldered on. Having 16gig soldered on is a horrible idea because that lowers your max ram amount as 48 gig is all that is supported. 16gig plus 32gig is 48gig. Having a 16gig soldered on you either get 32gig or 16gig max not 48gig. Its a non issue other then the fact Asus misspoke and said 16gig soldered. The performance and price is outstanding reguardless.

This thing looks good on paper. Real world use though leaves too much to desire. The screen is placed behind the exhaust fans which heats the screen up pretty fast. There is back light bleed along the bottom that at first is manageable, but as the screen heats up the whole screen starts to show bleed on the edges accompanied with a green hue that stretched across the display. The Intel display management software also over brightens the screen and washes out the colors. Anytime you change the screen setting through armoury crate you have to open the Intel display software and toggle the overall brightness slider to get rid of the washed out screen. It's seems like a bug with the igpu There is no gsync or an HDMI 2.1 output. The solution to no vrr is that the igpu outputs the signal from the dgpu while in mshybrid mode and applies adaptive sync. This leads to crippled performance and pretty bad frame stuttering. I also still see tearing. When using just the dgpu there is only the Nvidia control panel options for vsync which all do nothing to help this screen. The fans are incredibly loud when using it for anything except basic tasks. Just downloading a game ramps up to max and it's louder than my tv at normal listening volume. The touchpad has a noticable gap between the touch surface and the frame and will easily collect stuff. I have never seen a gap like this before. All the laptops I have ever seen are flush between the frame and the touchpad. The matte black collects finger grease easily and looks dirty really fast. The speakers sound terrible as well. They crackle occasionally and don't get louder with the volume. They just become more distorted sounding. For an Asus product I definitely expected more and at this price point it's a little insulting. This one should have never made it past QC. If you don't plan on gaming at all or listening to music or watching movies then this might work for you. But then you could also just buy a $500 laptop and call it a day.

Really a 4.5. Battery life isn’t great, only decent after tweaking and it’s disappointing Best Buy is the only place it’s available and it comes with 8gb soldered RAM + 8gb stick. I knew these two going in, hence only 1 (.5*) star off. Best Buy needs to start carrying models with larger capacity RAM. If we’re willing to buy at this price, of course we’d buy the better RAM option. Debated for a long time between the 2022 G14 and M16. I wanted a white laptop and good battery life. But screen size was important too. Ultimately I decided on the M16 because of the screen size and quality. The G14 wasn’t bad, but it felt cramped. I have a 16:9 15.6” Dell XPS 9570, I wanted my next laptop to be 16:10. The dimensions are very similar with only a couple millimeter difference on either WxDxH. It’s crazy how much a screen size looks/feels different even by just 0.4” going with the M16 (more pronounced going from 15.6” to 14” with the G14). Battery - Keep on Eco Mode, Silent or Windows fan profile and screen at 60Hz when on battery. After some tweaking, I’m able to get on average 6hrs web browsing with 6 tabs of chrome and MS Word. Screen between 50%-70% depending on my environment. Keyboard lights were set to lowest and maybe get another 10mins of battery with it off the entire time. I disabled boost on battery. I noticed enabling energy saver in Windows gave about ~15-30 minutes depending on tasks I was doing. I need to do more tweaking as I know there are some processes I can disable or uninstall and maybe get me up to 7hrs. I still need to play around with the max power setting in Windows Power Plan to see if it’ll work in tandem with boost disabled to squeeze out more battery and without completely gimping the system. I use hibernate when not in use and plus sleep drains battery with Windows’ 10/11 standby sleep. I only put it to sleep when I step away for a short while; >5 but <10 minutes. I think I’d still only be able to get 7hrs at best after doing those other tweaks. Gaming - Turbo Mode. I don’t do benchmarks because those numbers don’t really do anything for me except comparing it to my desktop or other laptop. Also I’ve only had time to play around with FFXIV a bit. Before any tweaking, I was getting between 105-135 FPS in the starting cities Limsa and Gridania. Large fluctuations just depending on how many NPCs, players and objects it had to draw on screen. I jumped into the Aglaia alliance raid to test during actual gameplay. I was able to get 115~120 fps with a mix of high and medium/normal settings (personal preferences). CPU & GPU temps in 90-95 range. Both during raid and city-states. After tweaking power plan for CPU boost: Efficient Aggressive, it had same FPS as before but temps improved a little with CPU maxing at 85 and GPU around 75-82. I played one match on BLOPS: Coldwar with ~160fps with a mix of high and medium settings. Temps were about the same. Great laptop overall. But if you need all day battery life, you can either carry around a battery pack or charger that’ll do 100w PD USB-C or look for another laptop.

Overall, I'm simply astonished at what levels of power companies have figured out how to cram into laptops. The Asus ROG M16 Hits it out of the park with easily one of the most powerful portable devices you can get your hands on. The only the device that seems to be more packed and powerful than this laptop ends up being almost double the price. Starting out with the unboxing experience, you'll be greeted with a magical tilting up presentation of the laptop when you fold open the box. The laptop simply presents itself for you to easily grab out of the box. Inside you'll also find a surprisingly compact 240 Watt wall charger. The overall exterior design is mostly plastic and there are some different textures, but the chassis can at times feel a little too flexible for how expensive the laptop is. I would of liked to see a little bit more metal on this build. Starting off and powering up the device, it has a very quick boot and the setup process for Windows 11 runs very smoothly. There are some Asus branded applications installed however it was refreshing to see a lack of bloatware on the fairly clean install of Windows 11. Before doing anything I made sure all the drivers and Windows 11 were fully up-to-date. Jumping into things, the display is one of my favorite things on this laptop. The screen is simply outstanding! There’s more than 1080P resolution which makes everything very crisp, it supports up to 165 Hertz refresh rate, it covers 100% of the DCI P3 color space, and has a peak brightness of 500 nits. All of these specifications work well for a vast amount of activities from video editing, photo editing, to gaming. The contrast ratios are great, the black point depth is fantastic, and viewing angles are not bad either. The ability to support display technologies like Dolby vision, adaptive sync and variable refresh rate, and full display calibration, this display really gives this laptop an edge. Getting into performance, this laptop is absolutely packed with power. The new 12th generation Intel chip features a total of 14 cores: 6 high performance cores, and 8 power efficient cores. The CPU can boost to 5 GHz and has a maximum TDP of 115 watts. The combination of the different core types allows Windows 11 to completely optimize power consumption. Windows will seamlessly transition processes and programs between the performance and economy cores as necessary to keep power consumption down, which decreases heat, and increases battery life. The RTX 3070 TI has a peak power consumption of 120 watts and will handle anything you throw at it. Any game I threw at this from Forza, War Zone, to Valorant, the laptop had absolutely no issue blowing the graphics and frame rate out of the water. These two high power consumption devices when combined and running full tilt will definitely stress this machine. Your 240 Watt power adapter will be running full tilt to keep up. Getting into a couple of the minor negatives on this device, it all mostly boils down to the obvious tradeoffs and compromises when you cram this much power in a portable laptop device. You're limited on battery life, but mainly it all comes down to heat. A device like this that generates as much heat as it does is going to be LOUD, there's absolutely no way around it. The fans operator at a speed of MACH 5 and sound like they will levitate the laptop right off the desk. With the plastic design of the case, there’s only so much heat you can dissipate off the CPU and GPU and exhaust out of the machine. For the times you do struggle to dissipate heat, you will definitely run into a thermal throttling issue. Battery life was acceptable when you were doing normal non-gaming activities such as web browsing, watching YouTube videos, listening to music, etc. Launching a game on battery power however very quickly ate up battery life and required plugging in the power adapter. One last minor negative, which is the only one I truly don't understand and have a problem with, is the fact that they soldered 8 GB of RAM to the motherboard. You can swap out the second 8 GB stick of RAM for up to a 32 GB stick of RAM to give you a total of 40 GB, but then you will have mismatched RAM sizes, and obviously won't be able to take advantage of dual channel technology, or simply have perfectly matched memory modules. This seems like a really dumb move on Asus’s part, but in my book it's not enough to take a star off the rating. Other convenient and nice features to highlight: the webcam is only 720P, however it does support Windows Hello facial recognition so you can unlock and authenticate into windows without actually typing a password. The microphone array is touted as performing well, but I found it lacked some clarity and depth in most settings. If you happen to be attempting to use the microphone array while the jet engine fans are running, it will definitely make it worse and make it hard for people to hear you. Noise cancellation will only work so well. The speakers sound great for a laptop, actually get relatively loud, and have a good amount of clarity as well. The the keyboard is laid out well, has good key separation and action, but is a little odd that there's only one zone of RGB LED color. The addition of 4 macro keys is a welcome surprise too. There’s also an additional M.2 NVMe PCIe 2280 FF SSD slot available for storage expansion inside. Overall, if you’re looking for a lightweight, compact, and extremely powerful gaming laptop, you don't have to look any farther. While you’ll have to deal with the compromises and tradeoffs of jet engine loud fans and limited battery life, you can't argue with how much power is packed into this laptop. The amount of tech and features you get in this size is simply unmatched and will continue to blow the competition out of the water. I would have liked to see a little more metal unibody features to help with heat dissipation and cooling and add some rigidity, but that would definitely of added to the cost of the laptop. I’ll continue pushing this laptop and bringing it with me wherever I go.
