Absolutely the Best Ice Cream Ever

If you love really rich smooth ice cream, you’ll be in heaven with the ‘Creami Deluxe,” and that’s just the start. It comes with a 74-page colorful recipe booklet with dozens of different dessert and drink recipes. I unboxed it and opened the “Quick Start” guide. The little booklet gave all the instructions I needed to get going and it contained one ice cream recipe. I was headed out to the grocery store anyway, so I made sure I had all the ingredients required. I got home, followed the step by step recipe, (it was easy, and I am the opposite of a chef) poured the mixture in one of the two plastic pint containers and put it in the freezer. The next day, I placed the container in the device, dialed up the ‘ice cream’ settings and just let it work. In two minutes, it stopped and the “ENJOY” light came on. The ice cream was as smooth as rich as I could imagine. I took out enough for my wife and me and snapping the plastic lid on the container, put the rest back in the freezer. Clean-up is really easy. You can put everything in your dishwasher upper rack or of course wash by hand. The Creami unit itself didn’t need any cleaning at all, except maybe a damp cloth around the spindle under the control panel. Looking around online I found literally HUNDREDS of recipes for the Creami, there are lots of folks who love the unit and have come up with many ideas for it. Just Google “Ninja Creami Recipes” and you’ll see for yourself. many of them are also dairy-free if that’s what you’re looking for. The only thing frustrating about the device is usually you need to wait 24 hours for your ice cream or drink to freeze before you can enjoy it, although there are recipes like for milk shakes that you can enjoy immediately after mixing. Bottom line: The Creami is NOT a blender, you can’t put in ice cubes. You can’t make a smoothie by putting in hard ingredients, only soft fruit like oranges, pineapple or bananas. But following the recipes, it does make the best desserts and fun drinks you’ve ever tasted. I think you and your family will love it.

The Ninja CREAMi Deluxe makes making various frozen confections relatively easy. No salt or on-board refrigeration needed. It's simply a stirrer that mixes various frozen recipes you make. The unit is one solid piece with a simple dial and selection buttons on it. You have an outer container, the frozen treat container, and a lid that holds the blade. Just put the small container in the outer one, put on the lid and snap it into the unit. It's pretty foolproof from a mechanical standpoint. Very easy to use. Once you make your selections press in the dial and the machine does its work. The only downside is the machine is very loud when running. You'll have to raise your voice or yell over it if you're in the same room. It comes with a recipe book to try out all of the different types of items it can make. You make items by mixing the ingredients for what you want in a bowl and then pouring it into the small container. You then freeze the container for 24 hours. This is where your needed ice will come from. The mixer is not a blender, so don't put large items in it expecting them to be chopped up. You need to cut items down beforehand. I followed several recipes, and they came out great. Even when I made a mistake the result was still tasty. The recipes are a start, you'll adjust them as needed to meet your tastes. Easiest to start with are milkshakes, just need some ice cream and milk. No need to freeze for a day. Mix and let the machine blend. From think to smooth, as desired, they came out great. I made some slushies. First time I didn't use enough liquid and got something more like soft frozen ice. Next time, using the correct amount of liquid, it came out great and as expected. Ice cream was not hard to make. Just a few ingredients, freeze, and let the machine mix the result. Vanilla tasted great. I have done several basic recipes and had no problems expect when I misread a direction, but still made edible results. Theres is also a mix-in setting to put in small extras like chips or cookies. There are some complex frozen recipes in the included book and more online to try about any frozen desert you want. You can check out the book on the ninja site too. The device comes with 2 containers for making items, one cover, and a blade. Cleanup isn't hard, as only the used container, cover and blade need to be cleaned. The outer container may have condensation on it, but no food. Getting extra containers isn’t too expensive, but two are good start with. The device is simple and worked well. The recipes have been good so far and everyone has liked the results. Just plan a day ahead for what you want to make and enjoy.

Machine is difficult to lock in place, so it takes multiple tries, and prayers to get it started. Ice cream flavors are not as pictured. Lemon and Orange are both vanilla in appearance and taste. I bought a separate recipe book, it does not make enough for the pint sized container. Kevin, assistant store manager, Winter Garden says warranties changed while we were sleeping. No more refund, store credit only. Best Buy is apparently in financial trouble. I don’t want another bad machine. Prices are up, quality is down.

Item broke 18 days after purchase. The blade went thru the cup. Thank goodness it didn’t cut me when it separated. All I smelt was burnt plastic, and saw smoke. The blade separated from attached and got lodged in machine. Did not even have for 3 weeks. What a waste of money.

    Who wants ice-CREAMi?

Who doesn’t love ice cream? In short, people who have an intolerance to dairy products come to mind. Unfortunately for my wife, she has developed a lactose intolerance over the last 5 years that has gotten to the point where she can’t have ice cream (or other dairy-heavy foods) without medication. That has caused our unplanned, impulse trips to the local ice cream shops to essentially stop happening. Enter the Ninja CREAMi. This blender processor on steroids takes (almost) whatever frozen concoction you place inside of the included pint container and turns it into a frozen, creamy, and delicious dessert. After unpacking and almost zero setup, all one must do is decide what ingredients they want and place them in the freezer pint. While one can certainly make traditional ice cream the Ninja CREAMi, of which there are many recipes in the included recipe book, that’s not why I love this machine. Since I didn’t have much on hand when this first arrived, I went simple and just sliced up a half-dozen fresh bananas. After 24 hours in the freezer, I placed the pint into the outer cup, snapped the blade into the lid, locked the lid to the outer cup, and slid the cup into the machine. From there, the machine keeps things simple: select the desired quantity (top of cup, full cup, bottom of cup), turn the dial to the chosen recipe (sorbet in this case), and push start. What follows is an exceptional and alarming amount of noise from the powerful motor, and admittedly a bit of vibration as the machine creams the frozen ingredients into heavenly goodness. After a few minutes, the machine completed and the Enjoy button illuminated. After one scoop, I was hooked. I had just made, healthy, one-ingredient sorbet that actually had the consistency of ice cream and tasted like banana. Even my picky 9-year-old was in love and almost wouldn’t let me have the cup back. Wanting to test more, I scoured my fridge looking for other things to freeze and CREAMi-fy. All I had was a large container of strawberry yogurt. 24 hours later, and after selecting the Frozen Yogurt setting, I was eating a delicious cup of froyo. For this test, I chose the top cup option, which only processes the top of the cup and leaves the bottom untouched. This is ideal for when you want to save ½ of the cup for another time, as it doesn’t cause the contents to get overprocessed. Eating directly from the cup like I had done, it was easy to see what had been processed and what had not, as the bottom of the container was still rock solid, and I couldn’t get a spoon into it; the top half of the cup was creamy and delicious. Eventually, I’ll make actual ice cream for my son and I to enjoy, as we do not share the same lactose intolerance as my wife does. But, having the ability to make our own ice cream like treats, with the ingredients we want in them, and having them still be delicious (and healthy!) is fantastic. I’m happy to say that we no longer need the large ice cream maker in our closet that is covered in dust from sitting unused for the last few years. Why would I when I have this lovely contraption that can turn almost anything I want into ice-cream?!

My family and I are huge Ninja product fans but the creami was a disappointment. You have to continuously respin and add liquid and the consistency still wasn’t ice cream. It’s not worth the time or money for this product.

So cool! We love that it does so many different things. The ability to make delicious drinks and delicious ice cream all from the same machine is amazing! The only downside is you do have to freeze everything (unless you’re making milk shakes) 24 hours in advance. You will definitely want to order more pint containers so you can have some pre mixed and frozen if you want to randomly make drinks or some ice cream.

The Ninja Creami Deluxe 10-in-1 Ice Cream and Frozen Treat Maker is a definite upgrade on the ice cream maker that I previously owned. This unit is streamlined, professional looking, and fits conveniently beneath my kitchen cabinets (around 17 inches tall x 8 ½ inches wide x 12 inches long). Solidly built, as I’ve come to expect Ninja products to be, and aesthetically pleasing in a silver and black color palette, this appliance will look great in any kitchen. This particular version of the Creami is an upgrade on both the 5-in-1 and 7-in-1 versions that now allows you to make frozen yogurt, Italian ice, Creamiccinos, and other frozen drinks, in addition to the previous ice cream, lite ice cream, sorbet, gelato, milkshakes, mix-ins, and smoothie bowels. The included recipe booklet and Quick start guide are extremely handy when learning how to operate the machine. Reading them first will give you some invaluable tips on how to produce a successful product. Assembly out of the box requires simply placing a lidless frozen pint container inside of the outer bowel, attaching the lid to the outer bowel and sliding and snapping the outer bowel onto the base. Two 24oz pint containers with lids are included and more can be purchased separately as needed. A removable paddle sits in the lid of the outer bowel and blends or folds the ingredients together to produce the desired product. All of the removable parts are top rack dishwasher safe but to extend their life I definitely recommend hand washing and air-drying. Use of the machine requires 3 steps -the selection of a processing mode (Top, Full, or Bottom dependent on what part of the frozen pint you want processed), turning the dial to select the designated program for your treat (10 options), and then pressing that dial to start the process. So far I have made coffee flavored ice cream, pineapple sorbet, and lemonade Italian ice using the Creami Deluxe. All of the finished products rival any product that I can purchase in a store. Next time I make ice cream I will use more milk and less cream since I feel like it was extremely rich. I will also use canned fruit in heavy syrup vs. light syrup since I prefer a sweeter tasting sorbet. Trial and error will be my friend as I explore the possibilities that the Creami offers and I’m sure I’ll happily devour all of my experiments. I found that I was able to sidestep the requirement that ingredients be frozen for 24 hours prior to processing when I figured out that my deep freezer could solidly freeze the ingredients in a little over 12 hours vs. the 16-20 hours that my refrigerator’s freezer took. The deep freezer did cause both my sorbet and my Italian ice to have a grainy texture after their first processing but reprocessing the pints using the Re-Spin button resolved that issue. I recommend keeping some pints prepped in your freezer for whenever you want a spur of the moment treat since pre-freezing is a requirement. In addition, the purchase of additional pint containers will be needed if serving a large number of people. The Ninja Creami Deluxe offers an infinite number of frozen treat options by consolidating the performance of numerous other kitchen appliances into one system. This would make a great gift for the foodie in your life or as a welcome addition to your Ninja line of kitchen appliances.

Expensive and niche machine, but does its job well

GOOD - Can make very nice and creamy deserts - Wide range of frozen treat options - Ability to split a jar half and half BAD - Large and loud - Have to plan 18-24 hours in advance - Only makes up to one pint at a time - Only includes two jars - Learning the different modes for different deserts not in recipe book can be difficult TLDR The Ninja CREAMi Deluxe is an expensive, niche product that takes lots of pre-planning and preparation to use. It's probably not something most people need or want. But, if you need a specialty machine because you're really into frozen drinks, frozen deserts, or entertain a lot of people, the Ninja CREAMi Deluxe stands high on the list of choices, though it's probably a short list at that. DETAILS If you want more than a basic milkshake, and your normal blender isn't up to the task for your iced drinks, the Ninja CREAMi is an option that may interest you. Despite the manual saying multiple times "this is not a blender," it is in fact a blender, just a specialty one that's designed for high torque and lower speed. This isn't as an ice cream machine that whips a mix in a chilled jar and makes ice cream. Instead you make a mix, pour it in one of the supplied jars, freeze it completely, and then the machine churns it up. The pre-freezing part means this isn't a spontaneous machine. You have to plan in advance, sometimes multiple days, in order to make something. You have to have the ingredients on hand to make a mix and it has to freeze completely, which usually takes 24 hours. The CREAMi will mix pre-made ice cream on the spot, if you want something right now and don't have a jar pre-frozen. So if you have plain chocolate or vanilla ice cream already, you can mix in fruits, nuts, or syrups to make some different varieties and flavors. The CREAMi comes with a recipe book to give you ideas what it can make. Thick scoopable ice cream, frozen yogurt and gelato, milkshakes, frozen coffees and hot chocolate, etc. The CREAMi may be a one trick pony, but it's a pretty wide ranging trick. In terms of operation, it is pretty simple to use. Lock the frozen jar in the caddy, then lock the caddy in the main unit. Select the type of thing you're making and press go. The presets determine how fast the blade spins, how fast it plunges into the mix, and all that. The presets are named for what you're trying to make, so if you're sticking to basics or the recipe book, it's easy. But if you try to make your own variations, you might get some poor results until you learn what modes work best for which deserts. The machine has "mix-in" and "re-spin" functions. The mix-in is for when you're adding something to the jar after it's been churned, like adding nuts or cookie pieces to ice cream. The re-spin is for a second churn, usually if you want a smoother consistency. With these, you can also select whether you want to mix half the jar or all of it. This is a nice feature that lets you split a frozen base to make different things. For example, if you have a frozen vanilla ice cream base, you can mix the top half as is, scoop it out, then add some chocolate and strawberries to the bottom to get two different flavors. The big downsides, other than cost for a dedicated machine, are time. This isn't a instant machine and it takes some decent counter space. You have to have frozen mix first, which takes a day or more. Even then, whipping and churning it up can take up to ten minutes per jar if you churn it multiple times and use mix-ins. During that time, it is pretty loud and you only end up with one pint of desert. The instruction manual recommends you keep a few jars frozen in advance so you can be more spur-of-the-moment, but the CREAMi only comes with two jars. That's not much available in advance for even four people to split, let alone if you're expecting a small gathering. There really should be four jars included.

I’ve been eyeing the Ninja Creami for some time. When the new Ninja Creami Deluxe became available, I went for it, as I have a family of 5 and many reviewers say the original Creami makes only one pint of ice cream each time. The Creami Deluxe comes with 2 three cup bowls that each produce one quart. I’ve made sorbets using the Creami Deluxe and the texture is perfect, just like store bought brands but much healthier. The first sorbet I made was with only a can of pineapple in pineapple juice. The result was a very creamy and thick sorbet. I’ve also made delicious frozen yogurt using fresh strawberries and a cup of Greek yogurt. The results were impressive. For comparison, I have made “nice cream” using my Vitamax blender. The result is not even close to how creamy the Ninja Creami produces frozen desserts. I also had a Cuisinart ice cream maker. I didn’t like the Cuisinart ice cream machine because the large freezer bowl had to be kept in the freezer before use. I seldom had enough space in my freezer for it. I found the ice cream made in the Cuisinart wasn’t as creamy and thick as the Ninja Creami. The Ninja Creami is very easy to use. Cleaning the parts is also easy. If you’re looking to make healthy frozen desserts, the Ninja Creami Deluxe is the way to go.
