Versatile, effective, but complex controls, pricey
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it comes to air purifiers, there seem to be two design camps. The first is minimalist -- a simple box in which one button controls everything. Then there are the designers like the ones behind Shark Air Purifer 3 in 1, which has more functions, display options and controls than you can count Let's see. It is an automatic HEPA air purifier of course. It also doubles as a stationary or oscilating fan, with up and down vent controls, like you probably have in your car. And it can operate as temperature controlled space heater . Automatic or manual operation is possible, giving users the choice of letting the Shark 3 in 1 control the fan speed based on temperature (in heat mode) or air quality (the rest of the time). Air purification is going on no matter what option you choose and Shark claims big round filter inside captures more "harmful micro pollutants" than its competitors. It's nice to have all these options but it does make this thing much more challenging to operate than any other other air purifier I have used. This is not just a fan in a box, which is essentially what many brands are. This fact becomes abundently clear as soon as you pull it out of the box. The 3 in 1 is literally covered with stickers that explain how all the different controls work....and reminding you to pull the filter out the clear plastic shipping bag before you run this thing for the first time. Each sticker has a QR code too, which takes you to online videos to explain the not so simple operation of this thing. I advise you watch them, and leave all those stickers on for the time being because there is a lot take in. That's all the more important since 3 in 1 comes with no printed instructions at all and unlike most other electronic devices of this era, does not have an app to walk you through everything. Once you understand how the unit works, it's not really too bad. But there are a lot of controls and buttons to consider and some things don't work at all (like the heater) if you don't have every dial in the correct position. It's a bit daunting at first blush. A round hocky-puck style panel on the top of the 3 in 1 provides overall control of the unit. It is magnetically mounted and can be easily removed ri to carry around if you want remote control, a nice touch. The various buttons on the remote give you control over fan speed, oscilation, target temperature (in heat mode), timer, display dimming and what information you want to see in the display. There is also a toggle on the side of main unit that switches the air flow from front to back. The thinking here is if you just want air purification and don't want a fan blowing on you, the air can exit unobtrusively out the back the unit. This control must be set to the front vent to run the heat. There is a 1500 watt heater inside that cranks out a good amount of heat, which can be controlled by setting a target temperature or simply running full blast all the time. Regardless of whether you are using this or fan mode (front air flow) , you can opt to manually control fan speed or select Auto and let the unit to decide how fast to run based on environmental conditions at that moment. A lighted circle display on the front chnges color to indicate whether the air quality is good, medium or bad. The fan is very quiet most of the time but will get loud if higher fan speeds are necessary to deal with poor air quality. There are bewildering number of display optons related to air quality, so you can see if the pollutants in your home are more of the small virus variety or larger pollen type crud. Four types of pollutants are measured and each one gets a number detailing its quantity in the air at that moment. There is also an overall "clean air" number, which should be at 100 if your air is nice and clean. A button on the remote allows you to switch between these various displays. But actually seeing that display is a bit of a challenge. While the big color ring around the display is nice and bright, the numbers and text in the center are so dim and/or so small, it is hard to read them unless you are inches away. Not a great design. Sleepers who cannot tolerate any light at all will be happy to know the display can be dimmed or turned off entirely. The buttons on the remote control can also be difficult to read in low light since it is not back lit . And since it is round, it is sometimes hard to determine whether you are holding it upside down. If you could see the display, it would tell you other things including time remaining on your timer, current temp or target temp in heat mode and time left before you should replace the big round filter inside. Shark says it should be replaced every 6-12 months. Filters cost about $60 at the time of this review, so clean air does not come cheap. But Shark contends you will get very clean air from the 3 in 1. The big round filter is supposed to remove pet dander, dust, smoke, pollutants and allegens in a 500 square foot area. Expect a bit of a chemical smell on startup. It goes away in time. As far as aethetics go, the Shark Air Purifier 3 in 1 is a bit more attractive than the plain boxy designs of most competitors. Shark opted for a compact round unit (white or black) with a grid at the bottom where air comes in and a faux metal ring (actually plastic) around the top. The same material surrounds the display on the front of the unit, giving it a more hi-tech appearance. Overall, the Shark 3 in 1 seems to do a good job of cleaning the air, as well as providing plenty of versatility with fan and space heater modes. If you can figure out the daunting controls and handle the heft price tag, it's a good choice. .

A Purifier That You Need
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have cats. They shed. A lot. This means that I deal with hair and dander. I also live in California which also means a lot of dry heat and unfortunately, the air gets smokey due to wildfires. My living environment begs for an air purifier. My previous air purifier was good but it was too sensitive and would get LOUD upon detecting a change in the air quality if anyone sneezed in the vicinity. It also didn’t have a fan/heater option. I decided that I needed to change purifiers. Set-Up: The Shark 3 in 1 is pretty much ready out of the box. Remove the stickers and the plastic covering the filter and you’re ready to go. It comes with a remote. No app to download. The Shark 3 in 1 starts up and will immediately display your air quality while also displaying the room temperature. A simple turn of the side dial allows you to switch between the air purifier or switch to the fan/heater mode. Performance: The Shark 3 in 1 is QUIET. As I mentioned before, my previous air purifier would self-adjust and would get loud at any hint of air quality change. Also, be aware that when the Shark is in purifier mode, it takes in the air from the front and disperses it out from the back whereas when in fan/heat modes, the air is pushed out from the front. The front display is illuminated just enough to allow you to read it from across the room. I also like the fact that the illumination acts as a sort of night light. If this is your first purifier, then you are going to notice a BIG difference in the amount of hair and dust that is reduced because of it. I’m not saying that you won’t have to dust again or that dog and cat dander is eliminated but you will notice that there’s a lot less of it. Well Built: There’s nothing ‘fragile’ about this Shark 3 in 1. It’s sturdy and won’t be easily knocked over by accidental bumps. The 3-in-1 remote rest comfortably within a convenient cradle built into the top of the tower. Purifier. Fan. Heater: What my previous purifier lacked was a standard fan and heater option. These are things that you don’t know that you needed until you have them in front of you. I’ve already utilized that fan feature when I just wanted to cool off the area instead of activating my AC. And I know I will be using the heater come December. It’s the little conveniences that make a difference. Shark has made an incredible device with its 3-in-1 Air Purifier. It feels like Shark approached this design from all angles and I am very happy with it. And I believe you will be as well.

Wow, What a difference!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, what a difference this 3 – in – 1 makes! I use this in a home that is surrounded by dust due to home building ad nauseum and opening our doors causes dust to come in from the outside. My wife and I were constantly dusting our great room (every second day) to keep things clean. I set up this product in the great room (which is approximately 600 sq feet) right after we dusted. It has been a week now and we have not had to dust this room – the proof is in the pudding. In testing the thermostat and heat elements, I closed off the great room doors and set the thermostat to a higher level than my home thermostat. This unit easily kept the great room at the desired temp while the rest of the house was the temperature of the home thermostat – very nice feature to have on those cold wintery nights coming! The unit comes with a handy remote that magnetically sets to the main unit so it can’t get lost. The lights on the unit can be dimmed easily and is not obnoxious at night to wake anyone. The unit runs quietly enough with soft hum that is like white noise which I actually find soothing, although that is subjective, of course. All in all, this product is fabulous and fit my needs perfectly for what I wanted/needed. I highly recommend this product!

Whisper quiet, but lacks a few features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am still surprised at how quiet this is when in auto mode! To call it "whisper quiet" might be an understatement. I set it up in a large bedroom (roughly 20ft by 20ft) which also has two exterior walls and windows. This room gets quite chilly in the colder months, but this air filter's heat option is perfect to supplement the heat register in the room. I like the fact that it has a display which can show remaining filter life - other air filters tend to surprise you with a red light and shutting down. The oscillating feature is nice to spread the warmth across the entire room. It's also nice that it has a remote control that I can keep by my bedside to turn it off as I fall asleep. And that's where I can bring up the lacking features - I don't want to waste energy by leaving it running as I fall asleep, so a timer would be nice. Also, I feel like other air filters at this price point have Wi-Fi connectivity so they could be app controlled. Or maybe I could be notified as the filter reaches its end of life so I can leave the display off. I'm eager to see how well I sleep in the Spring months, which is typically when my allergies are the worst.

Good Intentions - Heats and Purifies Air Well
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hepa air purifier and heater functions so well I can recommend the Shark Air Purifier 3-in-1 despite confusing directions, a quirky remote, and obtrusive presence. Pros: - The air purifier (always on) works by Hepa filtration (size) and does a good just of removing dust and allergens so that I sleep well at night. - The 1500 Watt forced air heater works well when nearby. - The oscillation feature works well, although it is strange (whole unit rotates back and forth, not just fan) - Very customizable (if you like complex) Cons: - Confusing online instructions, I learned by trial and error. - The hockey puck shaped remote worked well (responsive) when in place on top of the unit (magnetic lock), but not so well (sluggish)away from the unit (wait for the beep). - If you lose the remote you are in trouble, few duplicate controls on unit itself. - The unit is big and wants a lot of open space around it for safety and ventilation reasons (obtrusive) - Aesthetics is personal, but to me looks like an outside cigarette stand. - Red lettering on remote and unit is hard to read. - Lots of instructions printed all over it also make it hard to not see (or is that industrial chic?). - Very customizable (bad if you prefer simple) It's not often I can list more cons than pros but STILL recommend (and like) a product, but the Shark Air Purifier 3-in-1 is one such quirky product. First of all, 3 in 1 might be pushing it. Its basically a Hepa filter (air purifier) with a fan (fan purifier) and electric heat (heater). To me that's two things. And not all people will want a heater with their air purifier, so to them this would be a pass. But if you DO want a heater combined with an air purifier, then this is one of the better values out there. But be prepared to play with it to figure it out. First is the old fashioned analog switches, one for the vent that makes sense, but one switches it from fan and heater, to plain air purifier. Forget doing that by remote. It isn't clear to me why you couldn't just use the Fan mode at low and achieve the same thing as Air Purifier mode, but that's not how this is designed. And the auto mode only works in Air Purifier mode, but don't I want to circulate purified air as much as I can (hence use the fan?) But. Bottom line is I sleep well when its on, so it's doing its job. I breath easier during the day. And when I want a little burst of heat on wet chilly days, it does that well too. So despite some design quirks and questionable aesthetic choices, it's a good value

Best Air Purifier! Perfect for small Pets
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have bought 4 previous air purifiers over the last 5 years and this is by far my favorite. I bought 2 of these because trying to regulate the temps in a bigger 3 story home is difficult. One for my office and one for my guinea pig room. It helps keep the hay dust down for the guinea pigs and helps keep the temperature at the perfect 68-70* for the little guys(which is in the basement). I feel safe using this one vs other space heaters around hay (although all hay is swept and away from heater!). I keep this about 4 ft from the guinea pig enclosure and the heat fan is strong enough to keep them warm on chilly nights and warms their room. I love that I can use the one in my office for a fan for cooling upstairs in the hot afternoon and it helps my allergies. It was also perfect in the winter to have in the bedroom on the chilly nights. I may end up buying a 3rd one instead of carrying the 2nd one back and forth. I also love that it tells you the current temp of the room. The only con is that when using the heater function - once reaching desired temp- the air function turns off meaning no more air purifier- however - the purifier is typically at 98-100% unless windows are open or I am cleaning cages at which point I just turn up the purifier. I also really love that it has a remote. If I’m too hot or cold- I don’t have to get up to adjust the settings. 10/10 recommend- especially on sale!

Versatile, Effective, Multi-Functional Purifier
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setting used: in a 700 sq. ft. 1 bedroom apartment. Unit is about knee high, easy to lift and move, and takes up a small amount of space. Pros: -Does all three jobs (heating, fan, and purifier) well. Air will be purified regardless of which of the 3 modes are used. -At the lower fan/air speeds, the unit doesn't make a lot of noise, Doesn't disturb you if you were watching TV, reading, or speaking with someone. -Remote has a built in cradle/holder at the top of the unit. Can leave the remote in the cradle and push buttons and it still works. -Comes with a on/off timer (up to 12 hours at 1 hour increments) -Info screen has 3 brightness settings (off/dark, low, bright) -Info screen can show multiple screens of information (% air clean, time to clean air, temp, filter life, etc.) -Comes with oscillating feature -LED color ring indicates air quality (blue for good, yellow for ok, red for bad). -I will say, I've noticed less dust around my apartment since I've been using this. Cons: -Utilizing the different modes/features is mostly dependent on remote. If you lose or break it, it would be difficult to operate the unit outside of powering on and off via the physical button on top (unless if you can get a replacement remote through Shark). -Remote is hockey puck shaped. While it looks good, I found that it feels weird and slightly difficult to grip in your hand and push buttons. -Shark advises that you need to keep minimum 3 ft of open space around the unit at all times. So its not meant to hug a wall or be put in a corner. -The purified air comes out the rear vent while the heated air and fan come out of the front vent. The info screen is on the front of the unit. -Would have like to see a handle or a place you could grip the unit that was built into it to make it easier to lift or carry. -You have to physically turn the mode on the side of the unit if you want purifier or heat/fan. This cannot be changed via the remote. You have to turn the the knob to the mode you want first, and then you can adjust the settings via the remote (temp, air speed, etc.) -No bluetooth/wifi connectivity or app or voice assistant built in

Love it!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this air purifier for a year. I use it in a bedroom over our garage that has poor temperature regulation. Not only does it keep the room at a cozy temperature in the winter months, I love that it purifies the air at the same time and tells you the air quality. I also own Air Doctor purifiers for my home but wish that I had just purchased several of the Sharks

A great multifunctional purifier!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I live in a dry, dusty environment, and my old purifier's air filters cost over a hundred and fifty dollars to replace. . . every six months, and so it now sits abandoned in my walk in closet. And then I came across this Shark air purifier. I had believed it was a two in one, only to find out it has the added bonus of a space heater. The unit covers 500 sq feet, comes with a remote, and clean air filter. That's it. Let's talk about the remote though, because it is a love/hate relationship and I have a warning for future buyers. So the remote is this neat disc that sits on top of the unit in a cradle-like depression that you won't be able to knock off easily, and you can set it down in such a manner that the magnet 'snaps' it into place. The cradle has an IR receiver so that you can use it without having to pick up the remote. I took a star away because my remote's battery slot is not secure, and it won't click back into place. I believe something happened because (Here's that warning!) when taking the battery tab off the remote, be mindful. I was a little eager and pulled the tab, and didn't realize it took the battery out with it, and when I tried to use the remote, and it wasn't responding, I didn't know I had yanked the battery completely out. Beside that point, the remote is actually well thought out. Now the unit itself: I like how it has a large display to see from across my living room, with a LED ring around it that indicates air quality in three colors: Blue, Yellow, Red. It has a touch sensitive power button separate from the remote (You can use either) and then an odd little knob on the right side that sets it into that “Air Purifing” mode, meaning the air direction will blow out of the back, and not in your face. If you turn it, it redirects the airflow through the front and enables the Fan and Space heater modes. The space heater that I didn't even know it came with until I got it, which I find to be really handy, except I live in Arizona, where it rarely gets cold. You can use the remote to change temps, turn on the oscillator, set timers, or just set it to Auto and leave it. The heater does have your standard safety features: Tip it over and it shuts down. The filters are easy to install, just pop the back cover off and stuff it in there, carefully. The great thing is: The filters don't cost a hundred and fifty a pop! For the fantastic price of 75 USD, you can easily obtain a new one. If you live in a variable climate, with a lot of allergens, or a pet and want a device to do more than just scrub the air, I certainly recommend this unit.

Good, but large
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has a lot of nice features built in, but it is rather large. I'm sure the size of the unit is driven by the size of the HEPA filter, which fills up most of the lower portion of the unit. The colors are somewhat muted, but it's not going to disappear into a corner of your room. The display is informative and useful, and you can choose what you want to see. It is nice to be able to glance over and see the air quality and temperature. You can set it to run automatically, ramping up as needed to deal with variable air quality. You can also set the heater to maintain a desired room temperature. You're not going to get a large amount of air flow if you're trying to use this a fan to blow air around the room. The air discharges out of a fairly small, louvered port in the front. There is a small lever you can use to adjust those louvers up or down. You can also set it to oscillate automatically to distribute air more evenly around the room. The remote is cool, but maybe not the most ergonomic. It is round, and designed to sit in the center of the top of the unit. If you're operating it locally, you still use the remote, you just don't take it off the unit. It's an interesting setup, but if you lose the remote, you're out of luck, because there's no other way to operate the controls locally. I love the overall operation, just wish it could be a bit smaller.

Great for my homes’ environment
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark Air Purifier 3-in-1 is a device that is very necessary during times like these of today with bad air quality all around us and virus particles in the air causing the need of wearing masks. Inside my home, the Shark Air Purifier 3-in-1 eliminates the need for concerning myself with breathing unhealthy air. The Shark Air Purifier 3-in-1 is always producing clean filtered air, regardless of whatever mode is being operated. The three modes of Purified Fan, Purified Heat, and Purified Air can tackle all the atmospheric home problems that arise inside my urban home constantly bombarded by unclean air. The Shark Air Purifier 3-in-1really blows the air with great force, if necessary, but also can produce a gentle flow of air. The heat function can go above 80 degrees easily and I really feel its heat. I had to move quickly from out of its direct path, because of how concentrated the heat flow can become. The Purified Air can monitor my homes’ air quality and display it on its screen to inform me of possible health concerns with my air. My home air is environmentally protected with the Shark Air Purifier 3-in-1.

Big, Quiet, Simple
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been looking for one of these with winter approaching so that I can climate control my newborn daughters room whilst also keeping the air clean for her. This is the perfect solution and I’ll sleep easy knowing this is keeping her safe at night. I was really surprised at the lack of online functionality. It seems everything these days is “smart” and I’m a little worried I won’t be able to remotely check that it’s functioning properly. There is a non-ergonomic remote in the shape of a hockey puck that can be difficult to operate properly if you have smaller hands. The remote also enables a child lock on the controls by holding two buttons at once. You can also turn the display off for night time use. It purifies the air constantly no matter if you have it on fan/heat mode or auto purify mode. It claims to “maximize the purification” on purify mode, but I left it on for a couple days and the “clean air percentage” never rose above 90% from 80%. Turning the fan on full blast was much more effective in only a couple hours so if you need to scrub the air quickly I recommend this method, though it is loud. Overall it functions adequately. It does the job, but the clunky remote, lack of smart features, and manual mode switching has room for improvement.
