Great Novelty, More Fun Than It Should Be
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me just start with the obvious, this is a novelty appliance that I really thought we'd use a couple times with friends and then it would sit idle. However, we've actually found ourselves using it in those situations and then using it for several other bonuses/treats just for the family because it's so easy and convenient to use. Setting Up: It could not be easier to set up straight out of the box. It comes pre-assembled, you remove a few pieces of shipping tape and plug it it. That's it. We chose to wash everything before the first use (and it tells you to do so). It's so easy to disassemble and reassemble that you won't mind. First Use: We went simple and did a straight lemonade slushy to begin with. The instructions are simple. You pour a liquid in, tell it what consistency you want along with what kind of liquid is going in and the machine starts running. About 20-30 minutes later, the slushies were ready to be eaten and they did not disappoint. No adding ice, no long start-up time, no fuss at all. You put your cup under the spigot, pull the handle and it slowly feeds into your glass. Couldn't be easier. First Clean-Up: We'd already taken it apart to wash it before the first use, but this time there was left over slushy and we werent sure how that was going to go. We were not disappointed! You rotate a handle and the holding tube slide out, but if you do that with any liquid inside it will pour out. So Ninja did the intelligent thing and put a reservoir at the bottom to catch that liquid. It is removable and slides right out so you can dump it without causing a mess. I recommend removing everything over the sink as we had too much for the reservoir to safely hold. It's lightweight and is really easy to move to the sink. Subsequent Uses: Since that first use, we've used it to make alcoholic drinks and vanilla milkshakes. The alcohol drinks take just a few more minutes to slush, but they taste great and are blended to a great consistency. It has an alcohol sensor that will alert you to too much alcohol in the mix, but we never ran into that. Milkshakes are great as well, but there is one caveat. You have to use sugar in the mix as stated in the instructions. We didn't try sugar free, but we did use 2% milk and a low calorie heavy cream. There is also a low sugar sensor, but we didn't run into that either so it must be pretty flexible. Final Overview: While the size is a bit bulky to have on your countertops all the time, it is still compact enough to pull out when needed. It holds 88oz of drinks and you can add more to it as you use it making it virtually endless. Not having to add ice or other thickeners is great and allows it to be a quiet machine that can just run in the background while you're visiting with friends or family. It allows for alcohol, but is definitely not limited to only adult drinks. It's dishwasher safe, easy to disassemble and reassemble, and works quickly in my opinion. It's everything you want in a slushy maker and I bet you find yourself using it more than you think you will!

I'd pay maybe $100 tops for this, it was a total waste of money.

Must have sugar or it won't freeze

Don't believe the hype. Not for alcoholic drinks

This is the 3rd one I got (went to a different store the 3rd time) and it is the best one but it doesn't slush alcoholic drinks. The manual says 16% is the most it can slush but it fails at less than at half that. I tried all the online suggestions adding water, chilling in advance, etc and it just works poorly. I would return it but I didn't know Best Buy had a 15 day return policy. I will be avoiding Best Buy in the future as well.

You're right; when using the SPIKED SLUSH preset, all premade inputs (wine, beer, etc.) must be between 2.8% and 16% alcohol. Too much alcohol will prevent proper freezing of a slush output. Not What I Thought

Just never wanted to spend 350.00 on it. I always get tired of going to the gas station and the machine there being down. So I had a gift card left over so I decided to purchase it. Got it home was so excited to finally have it. But its not what I thought it would be. Tried to make a coke icee. It turned the pop flat and turned it into pretty much syrup. Tasted awful. I was so disappointed. Unfortunately I didnt take any photos. But it was sent back the very next day. Think carefully before purchasing.
