I love the Geek Squad service. I buy it on most all items I buy at Best Buy and am never disappointed. Because I have Total Tech, I got a discount on this so that made it even better!

We purchased the warranty to cover an out-of-box DSL camera, because we were concerned that the standard (90 day?) warranty might not be long enough for any problems to show up. Glad we did...the camera started acting up at the 6-month mark. I would rate 5 stars but I feel the warranty price per year is too expensive, and there should be a (reduced-rate) 3-year or 5-year option.

A great decision is to get the extra Geek Protection with your product, especially if it is a computer or tablet, to ensure safety and overall protection from risk factors. I highly recommend it for the price and cost benefit.

I will never, ever buy another electronic device without this protection plan. Hands down the best. Especially since having children. I made the mistake ONE single time and paid the price. Worth every single penny and then some.

I've called the Geek Squad twice. First time, they scanned my computer and checked for viruses. Make my computer run faster. Second time, I had a printing problem, which they fixed over the phone.

Disappointed in way charges were hidden

I purchased an AMAZON Kindle Fire HD for my wife for Mother's Day. I bought the extra 1 year Protection Plan. Last week, that Kindle started refusing to take a charge. After trying several power cords and connecting the charger to another electronic item to make sure the transformer was not the problem, I took it to where I had purchased it, I.E. my local Best Buy. This Kindle was less than 1 month old. When I purchased it, I also bought the 1 year Protection Plan. The Geek Squad people there were very helpful, and soon determined the female charging plug on the Kindle was broken loose or had somehow malfunctioned. As I had researched this problem on the Net prior to bringing it back to Best Buy, and finding out it was a factory defect that had since been addressed by the manufacturer, this was no surprise. They offered to exchange it for another new Kindle of the same model and configuration. I agreed and this was done. They were generating the transaction slips when I was asked how did I intend to pay the charges. Somewhat taken aback, I asked "What charges?". I was told the maintenance plan I had purchased (1 month ago) was now null and void, and another new plan would have to be purchased ($29.95/1 year) if I wanted coverage on the replacement Kindle. This was a surprise as I did not note the unit's Serial Number on the transaction Slip for the warranty coverage that would indicate the coverage was for a particular unit. I have a small business. I understand how warranties work (and don't work). But, since this was a unit I was receiving to replace a defective brand new unit, wouldn't the reminder of the 1 year service plan I had purchased on the first (defective) Kindle transfer to the new one? I understand it is a service contract. It is to facilitate repairs on a Kindle. I would assume these repairs would be made necessary by damage while in regular service, not an inherent defect that was present when I purchased the Kindle new. In experience I have had in the past, if a unit proves defective straight from the factory, and the OEM Manufacturer provides a new, unused replacement, (usually at no cost to the Retailer (I.E., Best Buy) ) the remainder of the Service Agreement and other maintenance agreements would transfer to the (new and unused) replacement unit minus, of course, the time already elapsed on that service agreement covering the original unit. Charging for the time used (1 month) on the original unit is fair and proper, and I have no issue if this was done. The replacement of the Kindle was something I would expect any ethical business to do, since the defect (according to what I learned), was a design issue present in the unit when it was sold. I reasoned this "Protection Plan" was for a device in my custody purchased by me that fit this nomenclature, not just the specific Serial-Numbered Kindle. I paid for another year's "Protection",however that might be defined by your corporate legal team, but the satisfaction I had by the willingness of your helpful store employees in resolving this issue was somewhat tempered by the imposition of the additional "Protection Plan" charge.

Hello Bill – Under the Terms and Conditions of our Geek squad Protection Plans, available at www.geeksquad.com/terms, a protection plan is fulfilled if the item is swapped out using the plan. You may have had a manufacturer’s warranty that ran concurrent with your plan, but in order to use that warranty you would have had to seek service directly through the manufacturer. I apologize if this wasn’t explained to you at the store. If you have any additional questions, please give us a call at 1-800-GEEKSQUAD (1-800-433-5778).
