Protect your gadgets

Only store credit, questionable warranty practices
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best Buy determined my laptop met the criteria for replacement, since it completely failed after about 4.5 months of use. However, these warranties are STORE CREDIT or REPLACEMENT ONLY. The terms — which aren’t well presented and are buried in 500+ Q&A entries or an obscure online PDF — show that they do not do cash reimbursement. This is disingenuous. When you’re buying the warranty, the product page proudly lists all the benefits, but never mentions that they don’t do cash or check reimbursement. Why hide that fact unless you don't want people to see it? And it gets worse. The warranty (depot) people tell you to talk to the store for anything even remotely related to replacement or reimbursement. When you talk to the store, they tell you that if you want any change in your warranty reimbursement or resolution, you need to talk to the depot. It’s absurd, anti-consumer, and dubious. At best. And here’s another one: if you call your local store number— you get the main call center. You have to press the right buttons in the automated menu to talk to the right person in the right department, who will then transfer you to the store. Yes, you are, in fact, meant to get the runaround. They just want you in THE STORE. I will tell everyone: do not buy anything that requires a warranty from Best Buy. Valuable products need warranties, and once you buy one from them, you’re trapped in their ecosystem and forced to keep doing business with them in the future. If you want a warranty for the replacement?? You’ll be right back on this page again.

Where my Beat Buy shines!

Over time the pro got a dead pixel so I returned it to get fixed or returned or whatever they saw fit. Turns out they were going to send it to Microsoft and Microsoft would send them a refurbished one and then they would call me and let me know to come pick it up. I explain to them that I work with this computer and I could not or would not be without a computer for some undetermined amount of time. They decided that fulfillment of the extended warranty plan would be a complete reimbursement of all monies paid to the Surface Pro 4 initially. Then I could choose to buy something else. I have to say that this Best Buy on University Drive in Huntsville Alabama truly excelled in customer service. They did not have what I wanted and I couldn't be without the computer so they refunded me the original purchase price minus the extended warranty of course and sent me on my way. You had best believe I spent my money at that store that day and while they did not have the Surface Pro 4 that I wanted nor one big enough for me, I upgraded to a Surface Book 2 15 inch.

He also helped me load a new program I had purchased to prepare the new years tax return for 2024. Then he spent time showing me how to use features on the laptop! He was very kind and knowledgeable. This hands on training was very helpful as I had never owned a laptop or touchscreen computer. The transition has been smooth with such great help.

It's great if you actually use it

I have purchased this before for my kids laptop and sure enough one day he dropped it and damaged the charging port in the corner. With the policy, it was completely fixed for free. Without it, I probably would have been out at least a couple hundred bucks. Had he not dropped it, the insurance would have been wasted money. In the long run, it is probably worth it if the device is for a younger person who is more likely to damage it.

After using it once I was told you can only use it 2x during 3-year period. I thought it was for unrestricted use if there was issues. Make sure you read small print.

Great In-Store Team, But Service Delay Was Frustra

My laptop repair took much longer than expected, and I ended up having to contact corporate to get clear answers and updates. I appreciate the kindness and professionalism of the store team, but the process itself definitely needs improvement.

Great service

If you get it on a device for $200 or less you basically can just exchange the faulty/damaged item and get a new one or credit. A little too high of a price in my opinion though for computers or other higher priced devices. $260 for 3 years is a little steep.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can use a computer, but fixing it is a whole different story. My laptop stopped work. I was very concerned because I homeschool and need to be able to access a lot of information and records. I took it to Geek Squad and they gave me a fairly long "possible" time. It actually took less than 1/2 the time quoted, and it turned out my battery was just completely dead, so it was replaced at no cost! I usually don't buy warranties but I'm super glad I did and that it worked out so well.
