If I'm gonna spend $500 on an Xbox One X and only get one year protection form Msft. $49 for another year seems reasonable to me.

Bought for the Xbox One. Given the track record of the Xbox 360 almost ten years ago, it would be wise to get a warranty and protect your purchase.
