    I like to purchase the replacement plans when they are reasonably priced. I have been very lucky as I have never had to use them. It is the peace of mind, it brings me that makes it worthwhile. What I buy is something, it is something I really want and I wouldn't want to pay a full price to get a replacement if didn't work properly.

    Geek Squad warranty worth it

    I have purchased the Geek Squad warranty on all of my Norelco razors that I have purchased through Best Buy since 2003. I’ve had to use this warranty a handful of times throughout the years as electric razors are one of those things that seem to break within the first two years. I have never had an issue when making a claim using the Geek Squad warranty and highly recommend it when buying certain products.

    Lost Netflix while watching a show. I pushed some buttons on the remotes while cleaning them after spilling sticky stuff on them. Pushed wrong buttons. Called Netflix, lost over an hour and no help from people who did not speak English well. Called my cable company and lost another hour and was told my TV was bad. My hair turned gray by now and I was cranky. I am a logical person. I pushed wrong buttons so it was a physical thing, not a bad TV or cable wires... etc. I needed that geek person who was logical and smart, liked a challenge. So, I called Geek Squad, I have a service contract with them. Bam. 5 minutes... count them, 5... he, my hero, figured it out. Told me how to reset the system and buttons and bam I was back with Grey's Anatomy. He was quick, and he was "it", the person you want to help you, the one who gets it.

    I bought the Geek Squad Replacement Plan for my coffee maker. My coffee maker stopped working properly so I made an appointment. Within 10 minutes of bringing it in, the guy had me on my way with a refund for the purchase amount so I could buy a new coffee maker since mine is no longer a model they have! It was so easy and I will ALWAYS pay for protection on my Best Buy purchases from now on!

    I was amazed at first but I’m not so sure that the filter is catching anything anymore. It is very reactive to smells in the kitchen and it will turn itself on high whenever we cook. But it doesn’t seem to be catching much in the filter at one year after purchase. The first filter filled up and looked disgusting after 6 months (as it’s supposed to!). The honeycomb part of the filter caught all kinds of stuff. The second filter ended its 6-month lifetime and there was *almost nothing* in the HEPA filter - the white honeycomb part stayed white & very clean. Only the side air enters into had some fine dust visible on it. I’m putting in a third $99 filter, but I’m going to watch it. It may go back to Best Buy on the warranty. I think my inexpensive 3M does a better job, with it’s pre-filter, of catching dust. I think the Shark does a better job at catching odors. It seems to detect smoke from forest fires and cooking at least. But the empty filter this second time is puzzling. I wish this had a pre-filter. The only thing I can think of is that the fine dust on the solid outside part of the filter stock to airflow??? That’s where a pre-filter would come in handy.

    Misleading guarantee & replacement process

    I spoke to a geek squad agent on the phone who said that she could find my order/plan information even after I gave her the plan number and order number, and she was ready to hang up the phone until I insisted that she keep looking. Once I took up the order date from my email, she said she found it. This was frustrating and also happened in store. I think that staff are trained to lie about not being able to find our plans unless we pull up every single piece of information connected to the order. The lady on the phone verified that my product would be replaced in the store the following day after she booked me an appointment in her system. However when I got to the store I was only able to return my non-functional appliance for a store credit refund instead of the replacement I was guaranteed because the product was not in stock there. I would’ve preferred a cash refund with the product being out of stock especially since it was in stock online for double the price, but I was able to find something else to use the gift card on the same day so I decided not to press management about it. The in-store geek squad process was also very unorganized and staff were rude and incompetent. There should be two separate lines for people who take the time to make an appointment and check in online, versus people who are walk-ins. I had to wait in line holding a heavy appliance behind 6 people who did not have appointments because when I went up to the counter and told the person I had an appointment for that time, he said I still had to wait until he finished helping with everyone else. In my eyes, that defeats the point of having an appointment system.
