    The extra 5 years cost me $40 and I think it's completely worth it. It does not cover physical accidental damage. I bought a Samsung TV from Bestbuy and after 4 years of long use via gaming, the power supply went out, something the warranty would cover or if there's a bad HDMI cord.

    I bought the extra insurance in case anything unforseen happens to my electronics I don't make much money, so I can't afford to replace things all the time.

    Protection got me a new TV

    I normally stay away from the additional protection services on any products I purchase, but this one really saved my butt. I bought a floor model of a large screen high definition TV. Over time, I noticed thick lines on the screen and discoloration. It was most noticeable when there wasn't much action on the screen and if large areas pf solid colors were displayed. As it turned out, the LED screen was showing remnants of the demo mode screens that would run constantly in the store. The protection plan allowed me to get %100 of my purchase price back, providing it was spent at Best Buy. I ended up getting a new 55" TV.

    The agents here are some of the most helpful computer folks I know. I do wish there was away to better communicating with these guys before I come to the store. If only for a brief 15-20 minutes conversation to see if problem can be resolved before bringing in and leaving with them. I have to have my computer to work and this would be of great help. Perhaps expand hours or have a virtual meetings scheduled all throughout the night. Your workers could choose for overtime or not answer and let some other person within the company say a 1000 miles away that would like the overtime. Make it easier and just ask for volunteers across the country and allow them to work out of there house for the calls that come in after hours. If that fails then I can ask my boss if I can leave it but that’s usually not the case.

    I purchased a protection plan along with a TV purchase to ensure I had a working and functional TV for at least 5 years. The purchased TV was the high end of the brand at the time and we've enjoyed it. Unfortunately I cannot say the same regarding the protection plan. In my first year, we ran into issues with the TV. It was under manufacturers warranty, so they covered a motherboard replacement. Within a few weeks of the manufacturers warranty ending, ran into more issues with the TV. This is the reason I purchased the protection plan and thought I was covered. It was easy getting someone out to inspect and determine another motherboard replacement was needed. That was during my last week of my remote job. I have since started a new job that's 45mins away. I communicated this and the technician said it wasn't a problem and scheduled a Saturday appointment. The date rolls around and no communication from Best Buy all day. I call and am told no agent was assigned and would escalate my issue. It cascaded downhill more and more from here. I had a total of 5 escalations and >12 interactions with Best Buy customer service via chat, call, and in store. Then I'm finally told by someone at corporate that they don't have Saturday appointments in my area and said I should take PTO. It's a new job that I haven't received any PTO yet, so the rep was basically putting me in position to call out sick and hurt my reputation and employment status with this employer. I ask about options like exchanging or returning for store credit and was told that's not an option because they haven't gotten a chance to fix it. They won't work with you for Saturday appointments. So I've been stuck with a malfunctioning TV for months and am told my only option was to mail a complaint to corporate. I mailed a letter to corporate and still haven't received any type of communication. I've been a long time customer of Best Buy. Very disappointed by this situation and I feel cheated being stuck with a malfunctioning TV. Why would I ever shop at Best Buy again after an experience like this?

    Insurance, not Protection

    The Geek squad protection had to be activated for my Samsung 55" inch TV after 3 years. Plus side: I was able to get the value for the TV to trade in for another TV. Minus: once you have to 'activate' your Geek squad for the trade in you lose it. I think it could be argued that if the Geek Squad concurs that your TV can't be fixed and needs to be replaced after 3 years, why shouldn't I still have two years of Geek Squad Protection left? So I guess it's not so much 'protection' as 'insurance,' but def. better than having to buy a new TV flat out.
