Bought this on a $650 GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker. Despite regular cleanings, and a deep thorough cleaning, I continue to have mold and algae grow inside the tank and inside the unit. Contacted GE, and they were no help. but wait, I have a Geek Squad Protection plan! TWO WEEKS ago I contacted them, they setup an appointment, and the service provider called me yesterday and said they don't service counter top ice makers and can't get parts for them. Why was this setup to begin with??? So I call back today, and a GS rep tried to find another company, but could not, so he was going to have the dispatch department contact me to setup an appointment. They called me just now, and said "sorry, this issue isn't covered by your warranty." It's an obvious defect with the unit, because I clean it and run high quality bottled water through it. I am furious!!! $725 I spent last year on this, and it's a health hazard. Further research reveals that this is a common issue. Look at the 209 one star reviews for the unit and see how many people have this issue. If you already have one and end up with this issue, don't count on GE or Best Buy to help you. The worst customer service I've had in a while!

I have not use it yet, but i always like to insure my purchase you never know when you will need it.

I have not had to use the extended warranty but I've been assured that if i have any issues I'm covered.

If you have the option to add Geek squad protection, I say got for it.

Depending on the dollar value of the service vs the product, these protection plans can be worth it.
