Frustrated!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just purchased a new Sony 75'' tv and the 2 yr extended Geek Squad warranty. Brought it home myself. They wanted 200.00 buck's to deliver and set it up. I got a friend to help with unboxing and set up. " It takes two people to unbox and set up this big tv. " Out of the box the new Sony TV has a bad Pixel. Red dot with a line all the way across the screen. First, I was asked to bring it back in for exchange myself? Of course I said no, I purchased the "Geek Squad Warranty ". They told me if I had any issues they'd come to my house and fix it.! Long story short. Even though I purchased the " Geek Squad Warranty " where they said they would come out and fix my tv at my house for no charge,... they said because it's still covered by the manufactures warranty they would have to send it back to the manufacturer for repairs! Could take weeks. They will exchange it and deliver me a new tv at no charge and set it inside my house and pick up the old new tv but that's it. I will be responsible for unboxing and setting up the new tv again myself and disposing of the big box and all of the packaging. Also, today is the 4th of July 2024, my appointment for receiving my replacement TV is 7/17/24, 13 day's from now and the the so called NARROW appointment window on the 17th is 7 am to 7 pm.!! Really?? Lol. I need to be available for 12 hours? Is the best we can do? I'm glad I have the warranty or I'd have to box this thing back up and return it myself but I'm disappointed that I got a defective tv, that's on Sony. I paid big buck's for what I expected to be a top Quality product! I'm also disappointed that Best Buy won't just come out and fix this TV, that's why I paid for the warranty! So I wouldn't have to go through all of this hassle with returns, exchanges etc.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A week prior to getting the protection i was offered it at the time of purchase and i got an extremely cheap open box 4k sony tv and the price of it brand new was $2500, the open box item i was buying was $700 and at the time our purchase they wanted to charge me the protection of a $2500 tv which came out to $550 for 5 years protection, so i went in a week later and a young man helped me get it figured out and I got the protection for the price that I had actually paid for and I was very very satisfied!!!!

Extended warranties, pros and cons

We purchased a Sony DLP set in 2007 from Best Buy and took the extended warranty. One week before the extension expired they had to replace the entire video engine. The parts alone were $1,500 and I don't recall the labor but it wasn't inexpensive. We were covered (I don't recall if there was a small service fee or not) and saved 6 to 8 times more than the cost of the warranty. Some say if nothing goes wrong in the first 90 days with electronics nothing will go wrong for many years. Well that's true in many cases and in other cases such as ours we have seen it's not true. You can look at this as insurance and weigh the annual cost of the warranty against the risk that nothing will go wrong. However, consider the fact that when something goes wrong with high tech electronics, especially in large sets, repairs can be rather expensive. It's a personal decision and also depends on whether you have the money or desire to pay up front. It worked for us in the past at least.

Super easy to setup!

I have an existing Alexa Fire TV and once connected to my WiFi network, it was simple to clone the apps and settings from the other TV. That is an awesome feature. The only issue I have with the TV so far is that the colors don't seem as vibrant or accurate as I was hoping they would be. For instance, I watched the U of Oregon vs Oregon State football game. The Oregon uniforms were a bright green and the OSU uniforms were orange. The orange looked red and no matter how much I attempted to adjust the color, I couldn't find any way to get it right. Other than that it seems like a decent TV, especially for the Black Friday price.

FIVE YEAR GEEK SQUAD PROTECTION PLAN

Always great to have no matter what you buy

The answer to replace came within a few hours. It was too expensive to have the Geek Squad just hang it on the wall so I choose to just have the delivery and haul away done as outlined in the warranty. However, I was never told that I was responsible for taking down the old TV from the wall. This caused over a 3 week delay in finding someone who could take the old one down and replace it with the new one. This cost me more money that I should not have spent other than installing the new one since I had the Warranty. This was on top of waiting over 3 months of getting this resolved due to the suspension of home visits.

Well worth it!

The price is very reasonable; even if you don't need it, it's well worth the peace of mind. I only had to use it once; all it took was one phone call and my TV was replaced. I'm very pleased with my Geek Squad Protection plan.
