    New 4k transfer

Having already owned 2007 blu ray release, I can tell you that this new 2018 4k transfer is the perfect reason to upgrade. The slight blurriness that was visible along the bottom of the 2007 release is now gone along with the occasional dirt and speckles. The color palette has been tweaked and has more "pop". Perfect. Love the artwork on the steelbook as well.

Fifty years later this movie has aged well and still looks amazing. The Blu-ray price has really dropped, maybe in anticipation of the 4K version coming later this year. If you have a 4K player you might want to wait. The Blu-ray looks very good, but there are bits where I wonder if the picture couldn't maybe look a little sharper. The commentary by the two stars of the movie is OK, but doesn't really offer much insight. There are people who have studied this movie for years and even written books on it who may have had more to contribute. The sequel, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, is also available on Blu-ray and worth it if you get it cheap.

I don't need to review the film itself, because if you've seen it as many countless times as I have you know it's a classic and that Kubrick was a genius. I only need to tell you that the brilliance and experience of viewing the film is light-years more awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping by viewing it in 4K. This is a very worthwhile purchase.

It's hard to write a review of the actual film. After all, this is an American Film Institute top 20 film of all time. And the director is Stanley Kubrick... maybe the most original and creative U.S. director ever. That said, seeing this in Blu-Ray is simply amazing. The extras are seriously well worth it alone. 2001 is just a movie that grows on you with multiple viewings as it's really visual storytelling with minimal dialogue that keeps me coming back to it. Love the extras on how the sets were created and how it predicted some of the future tech we use today along with the collectible photos. Definitely recommend to any movie buff to have in their collection.

    Kubrick's Seminal Work

Received this for only like 4 dollars, brand new. Had never seen 2001, but had heard great things about it. Well, I can validate those incredible things. Not only is this an important piece of work in the way that Orwell's 1984 changed literature, but this is a visual masterpiece. For a film developed in the 60's, some of the cinematography look as fresh as today. This film set the precedent for what big-budget director like Michael Bay utilize in all of his film.

A classic movie looking and sounding the best it ever has. As a historically defining movie it has aged well and this 4K remaster really has hit the mark show all it has to offer. Those used to more modern shoot-em-ups won't enjoy as much but the cinematography looks amazing here.

Wow. Like many reading this I’m sure you have seen this numerous times on many different formats. This transfer is really impressive. Like they took a razor blade to dirty glass. It’s so clear and vibrant. HDR really does it justice and the colors pop. Sound is also very impressive. Highly recommended for audiophiles and cinephiles.

One of the Best Sci-Fi Movies of All Time

2001...says it all as one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. In the search for extraterrestrial life comes 2001 with a very unique view of that search. From the start of early humans to a possible look into the future, artificial intelligence, and space travel brings that unique view done in a manner that makes this movie so classic. Director Stanley Kubrick again brings this movie together in such a talented way.

What a great movie for science fiction lovers and anyone who enjoys out-of-this-world space adventures! You should see it at least 3 times to appreciate the true genius of Stanley Kubrick. 2001 is a screen classic. There is no other movie out there like it, and it is morally clean, which I personally find refreshing!

The sound and picture are both phenomenal. I wish this much care could go into making 4K transfers of older movies. Right at the beginning, the senses are blasted with the amazing Dolby Audio soundtrack. And wait till you see the inside of the spaceships. No other version of 2001 has looked this good.

I have watched this movie on DVD, Bluray, and now 4K. The visuals are amazing and clear. The colors bright and captivating. This is what 4K was meant for. If you have the setup then go out and get this. Even if you don't like the end sequence and I do tune out, its just a joy to behold.

This is one of my favorite movies, it has great cinematography, plus the scale of the movie is amazing. If it's your first time watching the movie be warned that the beginning is music playing over a black screen for some time. One the movie does start we get a beautiful story of man featuring one of the most menacing computers in history. A must watch
