More of an art film than a sci-fi action type. It is an interesting film, but is defenitly not in the same class as starwars, star-trek or other space movies from the period.

A little slow in todays conventional sense but I wanted my son to see it because of the oh so many references to it, even today. I am happy to have it in my library.

I bought this film because I'd heard so much about it & liked the music. I really liked the special effects and the music was great. Never did understand the storyline/plot.

This is not one of my favorite movies, but it was a gift for my partner and he likes it, so....there you have it. Good price!

I was a little disappointed. Had never seen this "classic", but now that I have seen it, I'm glad I only out $3.00 for it.

This film was not what I through. It was not about space creatures of today's technology.

I bought this for the music theme song. Other than that, you can watch this movie and make up your own mind about how it is.

I found this movie to be of good quality but much slower than I had remembered when I watched it years ago.

Excellent story telling and visuals. A must for lovers of classic science fiction.

I guess you had to be high in the 60's to really appreciate this film. It's ok.

Amazing that this movie was made in 1968. Weird but amazing.

The movie is a classic buth I donth like much is rare.

This has to be the worst movie I've ever watched. It was very slow moving very senseless absolutely boring. The entire movie made no sense at all. How others can give great reviews for this absolute piece if crap of a movie is simply beyond me. What a waste of time , money and energy. If you are thinking about buying this move DON'T. If anyone ever gets into trouble with the Law and I need to punished just make them watch this movie. REGRETS REGRETS REGRETS REGRETS..........

Waited for a whike for this to go on sale and get it and still wanted the digital copy and therr is none. No wonder it was cheap. How this movie is considered a masterpiece is beyond me. I love sci-fi and thinking movies but outside of the effects it is ridiculously poor editing and acting.

I bought this nearly 2 years ago and I finally got around to watching it. I will say that this was a very well made film that kind of stands the test of time! There are very few things in it that will remind you that this is from 1968! This was the Star Wars influence and practically other space type films. This is the first actually looked like it was not taking place one earth. I have a Dolby Vision set up, so of course I wanted to see what it can do. DV can have dramatic effects on lesser quality 4K titles, but not as much on stellar quality titles. 2001's quality was either great or perfect! I was looking for flaws but I found very little. The picture was bright, with the right contrast and strong and precise color. Blacks were strong but detailed. Whites were clear, detailed and white. If nothing else, DV does HDR like you would expect for it to look - very much improved without putting it through shades! The facial closeups looks so detailed and color so precise, that I kept reminding myself that this is a 1968 film! As I was watching it again, I was now able to make much more sense out of what I was seeing and the story. The last scene is still confusing, but I think that I have a better idea of what it meant. The presentation seems to be about showing off the tech and how that played into the story, while kind of suppressing dialog (what few there was) as unimportant. I guess it was not. The audio is what it is, but I am not sure if the music was much louder than the dialog on purpose (to make the viewer not worry about the dialog), or it just came out that way. I really hate when the music is much louder than the dialog. Titles like Cliffhanger 4K did a great job of evening up the audio so you won't have to keep turning the music and effects down, then turning the dialog back up. Overall, there is not much sound and most consists of music. I did not really want to get this because I had it on BD, then sold it and bought the 3-pack with The Shining and Clockwork Orange - which are NOW all available separately in 4K. I liked saving space. The price came within reason, so I bit. The picture quality on this film was always strong and DV just enhanced it. So, this film scores very well in my book. Dolby Atmos or DTS-X, would have really made the sound and experience a whole lot better! If they come with one - i'm not biting on that.

This is one of those movies where you just have to be living in the times I guess, to enjoy. I respect it, but its past its time

This movie starts very slow and drags on for the most part. The ending was weird too. You could watch the sequel 2010 and totally skip 2001 and not miss anything important. The sequel 2010 is much better in my opinion.

I remember this movie as a little boy..my eyes were wide open loving the special effects back when I would watch this with my older brother the movie brings back good memories of my childhood that's the reason I bought this to enjoy anytime...
