I bought this movie to test out my new 4K OLED (and because it's a great movie, of course). The film blew me away, I've seen it a handful of times before but never like this. I just wish the extras were in 4K too, but that isn't enough of a reason to take off a star.

    40+ years and counting

Still amazed at the Cinematography from a movie made 42 years ago. Add to that, a haunting soundtrack and you have an iconic film destined to be a classic for another 40 years. Blue-Ray only enhances the vision that Stanley Kubrick wanted to convey.

A true classic Sci-fi movie that helped build and establish this type of movie. This is HAL-9000 classic where ya computer takes over to only sing Daisy, Daisy at its end. just ask Dave. Enjoy this movie . Does not include a digital copy of the movie.

Looks beautiful. No cardboard sleeve or fancy extras on this version, but does include some behind the scene stuff. Great over all!

This is my favorite Kubrick film. I am impressed with the audio and picture quality. This movie was released in 1968 and has made an impact in the whole sci-fi community. The blu-ray is outstanding, and could not be beat for the price.

2001 is a great movie. It was really nice to find it on Blu-ray at a reasonable price. It's a very deep movie with some great visual effects, especially for a movie made many years ago. It's a very enjoyable movie.

If your a fan of the original movie, then you will want this. The BD HD version of this movie will show you so much more then the original VHS release ever could have, or even the kinda updated dvd flavor. I fell in love with HAL all over again.

Call me uncultured swine, but I don't get it

First off, I can't fault Best Buy for anything. I am just speaking about the film. I kept hearing about how much of a sci-fi master work this was, so I decided to give it a try, but was kind of disappointed. It seemed like it was getting pretty good, until I reached the end. I'd give it 1 star, but the Music, Special Effects and Middle Act were all flawless, so I gave it 3 stars. I typically really enjoy Sci-fi and artsy media, so I thought this would be perfect, but the ending was complete nonsense. Some of the visuals were interesting, but nothing tied into the established universe the film was setting up. I don't care how symbolic something is, if something doesn't make sense, simply turning it into a symbol won't cause it to make sense. If you want to see a good symbolic and atmospheric Sci-Fi film with an ambiguous ending, just get the original Blade Runner. With Blade Runner, you won't feel like you wasted 2 and a half hours of your life.

This iconic film begs to be seen in HD on a large 16:9 screen with Dolby 5.1 sound. Even the original theater release did not have the picture and sound technology now available.

This is a movie I would consider to be a must-have for any blu-ray collection. It's a great example of how the technology has evolved and how they can take 40+ year old material and make it look great again.

High-Def Just Doesn't Work For Me

I have only one question to ask. Was '2001: A Space Odyssey' originally shown theatrically in high-definition? No, it wasn't...Was it originally shot and filmed with an HD camera? No it wasn't...And so here we have yet another perfect example of digitally altering artwork in order to make an image appear both crystal clear and 3-dimensional, even though it didn't in the theater. I've seen several high def-transfers, and overall I just do not care for either the Hd-dvd or Blue Ray formats as I think most of them just appear too digitally altered and overdone, giving us products that are quite different from their original theatrical counterparts.

I was looking forward to the film being restored to at least the theatrical release. The early scenes are cut short to keep it to one disc, I guess, but the pace is sped up to much. The films editor is still alive and may have remembered the directors cut. And the decision to release the film in 2.2:1 screen ratio is really sad. I realize that it is out of the question to expect the original cinerama screen ratio but Warner could have done better. The MGM laser disc had a wider aspect ratio. Otherwise it is okay, the is much improved screen image and the sound track is very good.
