Bought cuz was on sale and curious but definently not to Kubrick' s caliber. No artistry

Peter Hyams' script and film is a good adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke's excellent sequel to the '2001: A Space Odyssey' - the film and book he co-created with Stanley Kubrick. Based on the book, _2010: Odyssey Two_, by Arthur C. Clarke, Hyams adapted the script from an (uncredited) treatment of the book by Clarke. Clarke appears in a cameo, so he approved of the final script. The cast is very good, and the filmmakers were able to take advantage of pictures of Jupiter taken from the Voyager spacecrafts. Don't let the critics fool you. If liked '2001' and wanted your questions of that film answered, then you must rent 2010. In fact, you might even want to read the original novels of _2001_ and _2010_ to see what the differences between the books and films are.

Interesting only if you want some closure, or if you're a completest. If you left the original film feeling frustrated, and prefer films that lay everything out for you in a simple, easy to digest fashion, this is the film for you. This follow-up to the groundbreaking "2001: A Space Odyssey" is a conventional studio film that was designed to answer all of the unanswered questions from it's predecessor. A completely different style of film making. Kubrick's obsessiveness created groundbreaking effects that still hold up today. By comparison, this film was made after an entire effects industry was created, following the success of "Star Wars," yet some of the effects look pretty dated. Great cast, but the performances aren't exceptional. The plot was good, it's just the script and the director that bring this film down. It should be noted that Kubrick had no involvement with this production.

In my humble opinion, people go into this movie automatically comparing it to 2001 but it is not the same movie. While not the breakthrough movie 2001 was, it is a good movie on its own. If you are trying to make 2010 like 2001, you will be disappointed. A good movie but not its successor!!!

The classic sci-to movie continue the 2001 movie theme as mankind learns more about ourselves as both American and Russian space agancies must work together to solve the mystery occurring on Jupiter while the Earth ends up destroying themselves both on the planet and in space. What will we learn about ourselves and will we solve the mystery in time to benefit all. You will enjoy this classic movie. Sorry this movie does not include a digital copy.

Great movie the acting is great and the plot is good it keeps you wandering whats going to happen that is if you like movies where you have to think. The special effects are good for being made in the 80's but the acting is where the movie really shows its strength.

Anyone who is a TRUE movie fan will appreciate this one. If you like great special effects and top notch actors, then, this movie is for you. This film was made back when acting meant more than just special effects. It incorporates both. Buy it, you won't regret it.

This movie has a good story line and the cast does pretty good.

While not at all a bad movie in its own right, the things that really hurt ‘2010’ were the facts that it was trying to do the impossible, by matching both the quality and fan expectations of its predecessor ‘2001: A Space Odyssey,’ which is probably the greatest film ever made.

this is just a really bad port of a movie. it looks almost like someone sat in the back of the theater with their HD camcorder and recorded it. save yourself...i bet the vhs would be better than this dvd.
