Haven't had to use my 5 year plan yet but its comforting knowing I have it should something go wrong as manufacturers plans are short lived and weak. If my food goes bad because the frig dies, BB will even replace my spoiled food!

`The protection plans at Best Buy are terrific - a great value, particularly for major appliances. Even with decent manufacturers warranties, they make it convenient to keep your appliance running as expected - no hassles.

Geek Squad Protection - Total Disaster

    Posted .

We bought a fridge about a year ago with the Geek Squad protection plan. A year later, it breaks down. Called Geek Squad to get a repair appointment. What a disaster! The majority of Geek Squad doesn't know how to deal with fridge repairs and they want to you call somewhere else including the contractor (AIG) that they contracted out to. Through multiple calls and getting tossed around to different reps, I have learned a few things: >> When dealing with appointments, they want you to call. You can't request for an appointment online. This is where all the pain and suffering begins. >> If you manage to get a rep to make an appointment, BestBuy generates a service request order and it gets forwarded to the contractor. Without it, they can't help you. >> 2 out of 3 times, service requests from BestBuy were either not forwarded properly or double-booked with someone else. Be on the lookout for an email from the contractor. Without it, it is not assigned and you wont get a call in the morning for an in-house visit. >> At times, the agents on chat will close the session on you. >> At times, you will asked for customer feedback. Don't waist your time filling it out. I am on a call again -- trying to resolve an appointment that never made out to the contractor. This is just simply mind blowing.....

Great freezer for a small family, the only objective is it's much smaller than I thought it was. But freezes the meat great. That's why I didn't give it 5 stars and another basket could have been add.

**BEST BUY CALLED THIS A "LEMON"**

I'm so livid about the Kafkaesque nightmare getting this refrigerator out of my house and replaced by GE/AIG/Geek Squad that I don't even know where to begin. This refrigerator inexplicably started emitting an odor that was metallic and/or chemical in nature. It infused our ice, water, and exposed food (fruit, bread, dairy, etc.) and even our house. Guests noticed and we can't even serve things from it. We tossed so much food, we stopped calculating. Suffice to say after hours of calls, no callbacks, bounced-back e-mails, etc. and literally five (5!!) separate days of appointments at home that never materialized - we were outright blown off after waiting at home entire days - no one up and down the chain at Best Buy/Geek Squad could get their acts together to swap out this fridge for a new one/replacement. Ultimately Best Buy called this unit a "lemon" and offered to replace it with another brand. None of that has happened yet. So we're sitting here with a busted fridge that my kids can't eat food from and still stinks up the house, doing who knows what damage to us. After years (decades?) of spending tens of thousands of dollars at Best Buy, it's over. No more. The convenience of having a local BB is now completely evaporated. We will never patronize BB or GE ever again. Be warned. You buy it, you're stuck with it.

I purchased an out of box item and took out the full warranty. I haven't had to use it and if any problems occur the service call is also included. Win, Win situation I think...

    KITCHEN AID FRIDGE=Huge disappointment!

This fridge died after 6 months! We were gone 2 weeks and returned to find fridge had stopped cooling. Went to KA website and did all the trouble checking tips, none worked. We had a freezer full of foul, rotten meat and fish- had to trash it and then washed down entire fridge and freezer- smell was v bad. 3 days later KA Warranty worker came out and plugged it in, and the kooling kicked in. Repairman said he sees this happen on about 25% of his repair calls on newer fridges. He cant explain exactly why- with that kind of bad reliability/repair rate, WHY HASNT KA DONES A FIX ON THIS? The repair man had no answers- but he said he has now been encluraging folks to buy the extended warranty due to large no of repair calla his co gets for near new fridgeratora from Whirlpool/Kit hen Aid. UGH! So c disappointing! Our last fridge, a Maytag,, had so many repair calls durings its 8 year life, we thought we’d upgrade to KA and spend extra bucks to get the reliability- boy were we wrong. Im filing a complaint w KA asking them for $300 for all of the meat, etc that we had to toss. If I get a positive reply, I will post it here. Dont hold your breath…. Kirby

    Totally worthless

Had a refrigerator/freezer delivered today to my 95 year-old mother's house. Paid for installation and 3-year Geek Squad protection. Installers said it would take 2 hours to get cold. 10 hours later, it's room temp. Tried calling Geek Squad "24/7" service; recording said call back in the morning. Tried on-line support; they haven't activated my Geek Squad protection yet, since it was just delivered today. I'm reading them my order # and my credit card is already charged, but no help. So I try to schedule an appointment in their on-line registry but since the delivery was today and the Geek Squad order still reads as "in progress", I can't get into the scheduling system. Bottom line: My 95 year-old mother has a $1000 warm metal box, an $80 worthless protection plan and food and medicine spoiling in the kitchen. Thanks, Best Buy!

      Hello Neal,

We don't like to hear stories like this in regards to any customer interaction, let alone that family members are affected. Depending on the storage conditions of the unit before delivery, the amount of time can vary regarding the cool down period. If a unit is still not cool after being in operation by the next day, the Geek Squad should be able to see about finding a quick repair solution or replacing it. I am sorry for the trouble you and your mother had to go through with this.

2 Year Old Refrigerator on the Fritz - 10 day wait

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this refrigerator at Best Buy in September of 2018. I read the reviews and decided to pull the trigger on this refrigerator. It was delivered and installed perfectly by Best Buy. Two days later I noticed a dent on the top of the freezer door. Brand new fridge, already dented, how? Very visible with stainless steel. My refrigerator is 2 years and 4 months old. I believe the compressor to be broken. Best Buy Geek Squad sent me to LG customer service. LG service won't be out here until February 1, 2021. Today is January 22nd, that is absolutely unacceptable. It isn't like it's a washing machine, this is my refrigerator. I only have one refrigerator, This is absolutely ridiculous. Best Buy, you have to do better, this is unacceptable. This refrigerator was replacing my 15 year old Samsung, which I loved but the compressor died and the repairman convinced me that I should replace it rather than repair. They don't make appliances to last like they used to. I digress. The first thing I noticed is that the water spout is on the outside of the refrigerator, which is annoying because you can't rest your cup under the dispenser, you have to hold it and you often miss and end up with water all over the floor. Pay attention to this detail on the floor before you purchase and if you're okay with it go ahead but I believe it to be a design flaw and had I realized it I would not have purchased this model based on that alone. It's the little things... It was too late for me to do anything about it and I was stuck with this refrigerator that I hate. At least it does what it's supposed to do, which is preserve my food, until it doesn't. Two days ago the ice in my freezer melted. I went to get ice out of the dispenser and I got splashed with water instead. I was too busy working and too tired to investigate. Anyway, I went back the next day to get some more ice and I got water again. The indicator on the door was off so I reset it and walked away thinking, oh it just turned off but now it's back on. No. I came back several hours later and it was back off again. I opened the freezer and all of my food was defrosted, even though I set the temp to -4 degrees Fahrenheit. The worst part is not just that I lost several hundred dollars worth of food, possibly $1,000 or more. But that when I contacted Geek Squad to make a claim, I purchased the 3 year protection plan, I got the runaround. I spent several hours on the phone, waiting on hold and being transferred from one department to another. I called the store using two different phones simultaneously and was left on hold for hours, being tortured by the hold music. Only to feel hope when the phone would ring but to be placed back in the queue without speaking to a human. Finally they disconnected both calls, hanging up on me. I have been shopping at my local Best Buy for 20 years. I have almost always been happy with my service when using my service plan, however, never during a pandemic and never on a large appliance. Those are two firsts for me.

    Warranty = Misleading

We’ve been having issues with our Samsung French Door Counter depth refrigerator since 2019 (ice maker leaking into and outside of the fridge, condensation buildup in the fridge, fan behind the ice maker freezing up and making it unbearable to be in the same room as the fridge, food going bad due to fridge not holding a consistent temperature) and despite paying for a Best Buy / Geek Squad 5 year extended warranty with a “No Lemon Benefit” which says that after two hardware repairs concerning the same defect and the Covered Product requires a third repair, they will replace it, we are now into 6 repair visits and 2 no-show visits for the EXACT SAME ISSUE. The tech who left our house on Wednesday has ordered a third ice maker, second motherboard and second fan motor assembly to try and resolve the same issue rather than dealing with Best Buy’s warranty insurer AIG. Note that our last ice maker and fan assembly were fully replaced JUST THREE WEEKS AGO. We must say that both the Best Buy Geek Squad call center reps and Best Buy store reps have been very helpful and several have even stated “why aren’t we just junking this fridge”. The issue appears to rest with AIG and the fact that the repairs involve the ice maker, which is not in scope for the “No Lemon Benefit “. Based on other comments we’ve seen from owners of Samsung French door refrigerators with ice makers in the door, it appears that this fridge has an inherent design flaw which involves the ice maker that the manufacturer is choosing not to acknowledge. We are pretty fed up at this point…
