    Got it because external drives, at least mine, seem to last 1-2 years so hopefully if this one goes the warranty will help get it repaired.

    The geeksquad replacement plans are always worth the purchase. Obviously it doesn't cover your abusive damage, but it does cover many common issues.

    Just like a good insurance policy, GeekSquad protection plans are worth the extra expense. I've used it in the past and it's been hassle free.
