Not the best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After about a year and a half the laptop would not turn on unless plug directly to a charger. Also windows would not open properly and I would have to try to troubleshoot multiple times, and once I tried to hard reset it’s been loading for months now definetly get protection on any purchase

Warranty will only cover original cost
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Im upset that I brought a laptop into Bestbuy to have a touch screen replaced under a 3 year purchased bestbuy warranty plan to Geek Squad. They informed me that laptop would have to go back to manufacturer for the repair and would take 2 weeks. Laptop was less then 2 years into the bestbuy warranty (purchased 12-19-2023) and after 3 weeks of waiting I didn't receive any confirmation from them of repair complete. I had to reach out to them to find out that laptop will have to be replaced but a refund of original purchase price will be given back minus the warranty purchase cost. Secondly, my original laptop was now gone and i'm unable to move data to new laptop. *(where did it go and why??? It still worked and only the touch screen was cracked but still was responsive to touch) Third, my model is no longer available and I have to upgrade to the new model that is $350 dollars more plus a new warranty that is $300 dollars. I didn't purchase a warranty to come back to a location to purchase a new laptop and also a warranty because the manufacturer couldn't replace a screen that was still working. Im confused and feel swindled. Where is my old laptop? Where is my replacement.....not , here is your refund for original purchase, minus warranty and you will now need to fork over almost 700 to get the updated model and warranty through us.

Should these plans be extended plans instead?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This type of plan would be so much better as an option that you pay for when purchasing your devices and that it kicks in upon your initial warranty expiration date. A Lenovo laptop that had a hinge failure occur just passed the plan coverage period would have been covered in that case, had the plan kicked one year from the expiration of the manufacturer's warranty. Now, I am working with my credit card company to see if their extended warranty can cover me in this case. Unlike many other people who had the same issue with these 2-in-1 Lenovo Yoga laptops, I gave my device occasional use since it was a secondary computer, treated it with lots of care, using a neoprene sleeve at home for storage or sturdier case when taking it outside the house, which is why it lasted me JUST PASSED all the protection time that I paid for up front.

Protection does not include diagnostics.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my son's laptop started to make a noise, I took it to the Geek Squad and explained that I had purchased the protection. I was informed that the protection could not be applied, until a diagnostic was done, which a separate charge of $100.

Great laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is holding up great after three years. It plays games and runs photoshop, which were my two main ideals with a laptop. I'm also a full time college student and this laptop has been great for that. The only thing I will say is that this laptop is so huge that traveling it is not good. This works best as a desktop. I wish I remembered I had 3 year geek squad protection since a rubber piece is coming off on the bottom of the laptop. It was nice to have that reassurance that I could call the geek squad.

Tried quoting me an extra 390
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My laptop had a graphics issue after 3 months and I took it to geek squad to get it fixed. The one at both Riverside tried charging me around 300 when I had the year protection to cover any damages. I was upset because they wanted to charge me an extra 90 as well to ship it to get it fixed. Tried speaking to manager and he wasn’t help. Left that Best Buy and went to another one. The one in hip mall told me they shouldn’t have quoted me anything when I had the protection which serves the purpose of getting it fixed. Like finally someone with common sense. Try not to get scammed but they were able to ship it to get my laptop fixed :p

Worthless as I'm disabled with no vehicle...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Allow me to preface by stating that I'm disabled, I don't drive, and I don't have a person that can take me to Best Buy. Upon calling Geek Squad, since my new Chromebook has been defective since day one, the representative instructed me that I'd have to come in. I explained to him that I couldn't do that. He then offered to have someone come over for an extra $150 (ballpark). That's about all I have to say about that.

Negativity more bc careless str mgr, not GS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have mixed feelings about this service bc I purchased a computer before my current one and probably sent it out to be "repaired" more times than any normal person. It was always something w screen that needed fixing. The fourth or fifth time I was told that they were returning the laptop and crediting me what it was valued at in Best Buy store credit, which I was told was to be used for purchasing new/refurbished/open box laptop. This second laptop was larger and heavier than the Acer laptop that was thin and lightweight, similar to Apple Air. I wanted same thing, but couldn't find one in brand I wanted or without having to dish out a couple extra hundred $$s, so I went w an openbox Samsung Chromebook. It works great, syncs to other devices via wifi/bluetooth/etc. After taking it to be repaired once I was told that the $40 something ish 2 yr geek squad plan was no longer valid bc whatever part they replaced fulfilled the cost. I thought that was the entire purpose of insurance. Pay monthly price or one time in this case to cover your item for a period after the manufacturers warranty. So, when the power chord stopped charging the computer, I still took it in and they pretty much told me to buy another one bc. Luckily, I called the parts store and they replaced bc geek squad plan does provide ONE replacement power chord for device AND bc it was still under the yr of manufacturer's warranty. HOWEVER, around time I purchased the first computer is when I started using Best Buy more, after finding my $3300 Samsung Refrigerator in a storeroom floor for $1300 open box & scratch at bttm. $1500 after taxes/etc bc even paying for delivery wasn't an option. Had to pick up ourselves, but it ended up being a reliable rerigerator, despite not originally wanting one w tablet built in door. I began replacing my t.v.'s through Best Buy instead of Target, who was GREAT when purchased one before your store. I ordered an open box t.v, soundbar & a Geek Squad protection plan for both, via BB online and picked up at local store. It was only $20 ish less than a new version in same model. It ended up being in worse condition than advertised so I returned at the store and ended up purchasing the new version. A female manager at the Brookes City Base San Antonio store assisted w the return/exchange after associate completed my cc payment transaction. I don't remember why she didn't do an exchange, which would have led to me charging the small difference on the same BB credit card. She returned the item completely and my card was credited for the price of open box t.v. and geek protection. She then completed new transaction for a new t.v. model. A few (LITERALLY THREE) months later I needed something repaired on my BRAND NEW t.v. I was told that I didn't purchase a Geek Squad protection plan, which meant she didn't include it on the new transaction. I spoke to several representatives, explaining the situation. Each saw the returned open box tv w geek protection and new tv transaction on same dates, along w a GSP plan on every item on my acct other than the refrigerator. They claimed that there was nothing they could do and I'd have to pay full price to repair the damaged t.v that was no longer valuable being that the screen was not visibly showing picture. The repair cost was the same or slighty more than the t.v., SO I would have NEVER purchased my current computer if it weren't for the credit on one I already owned, and ESPECIALLY not a protection plan. I was still completely unhappy with the way my t.v. situation was handled by Best Buy and swore I was NEVER purchasing ANY appliance or electronics from them again ( AND I WON'T), so this plan now being invalid after a one time repair reinforces my desire to use ANY OTHER store for next purchase. The Geek Squad ppl themselves are usually friendly, knowlegable and repair any damaged devide that has a plan, as long as you make an appt when taking in. Your item will ONLY be shipped out for repair (if not something that can be done at store) if you've made an appt online. You cannot walk in and send your damaged item out for repair during that visit.

Warranty Purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ended up buying this because the laptop I purchased and had to return had a broken screen. I got a replacement laptop, but felt like I needed to pay extra for a warranty just in case it breaks again. I don't usually need to buy these for my laptops as I'm fairly careful with them, so the fact that I felt I needed to buy one of these in the first place is a mark against the laptop I bought (or its build quality) and also the company for selling broken products.

Not fully informed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not sure it was fully explained to me. After using it once I was told you can only use it 2x during 3-year period. I thought it was for unrestricted use if there was issues. Make sure you read small print.

Who know what will happen?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spilt hot green tea on my keyboard. So I called. Sent the unit back to Best Buy/ Geek Squad. Then I get an email at 11PM on a Friday night telling me: "The costs to repair your product have now reached your plan's maximum benefit amount. This means the terms of your plan have been fulfilled and your Geek Squad® Protection Plan coverage has ended." So, am I getting a replacement or a store credit? I don't know. It doesn't say. The warranty says it could be either/ or. So I guess I will spend my Saturday morning, or my Monday morning, calling and chatting my way up the information food chain so I can find out what is or is not going to happen. This type of notification without all the information is a total fail for Best Buy and Geek Squad. There is really no excuse for this. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate that, (at least I hope), that I will get a replacement or store credit. But I have no idea which. Am I looking for a computer to be delivered? Do I have a store credit floating out there somewhere? And just when exactly will I find out this necessary information? This info should have been in the email I received at 11PM on a Friday. Stay tuned. Let's see how they handle this. Will I ever know? Will they even care. Jesus, take the wheel.

Not happy Mom
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had no problem returning my son's laptop for repair after spilling something in it. The problems came after when I was supposed to come in for replacement since they couldn't repair his and they gave me a gift card instead of just giving me another laptop. I'm still not happy at all. I had to use part of my gift card for a new printer or laptop for myself just to put with his gift card to replace his computer. I bought his on Black Friday so yes of course there's no laptops close to the same price. Well definitely think twice next time I'm buying a laptop or anything such. I couldn't even afford the extended warranty coverage this time. I'm very disappointed with best buy.

Partial service each time I needed a repair
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I sent my device in twice to get repaired but both times they only did a partial job of fixing my computer. The first time I needed my computer back since I didn’t have time to send it back in again after waiting 6 weeks to get it back since I needed it for my work and studies but the problem was that after having the keyboard replaced the D key on the new keyboard popped out within less than a month but I was not going to send it back to get repaired for that long with the other issue since I urgently needed my computer in whatever shape or form it was in. The second time I sent it in to fix the keyboard issue along with the previous issue but when I received it back after 2 weeks they fixed only the keyboard issue even though I specifically mentioned that they forgot to do it the time before. I asked them to send it back in due to a partial repair despite needing my computer since I’d rather not have to come back a third time for the same issue they missed twice and have currently waited 20 days since the last update on the current status of my computer. Hopefully they’ll either successfully repair the issue or find some other way to resolve this ongoing incident.
