I love this home theater system! You can connect your phone via blue tooth and listen to music and play videos! It was so easy to set up and sounds great! When you play a movie its quiet..you don't hear it moving in the DVD player like the samsung. I would have to turn the system up so loud to drown out the noise from the DVD player. I will never go back to a samsung again! This is by far the best for your money!

A very solid Home Entertainment center.

Someone told me about this home entertainment; and after careful research i figured i'll give it this product a shot....and my result it was a good investment. The sound quality is AMAZING in a small room it feels like you are in a movie theater; in a large room it feels the exact same. My only major grip is that i'm finding hard to install my video game systems so that the sound can work for systems as well as regular tv...maybe i'm not seeing things from an outside perspective. And the only way to get your tv to use the tv Vol is IF and ONLY IF the Television is a Sony bravia and then you can sync it...otherwise it won't sync to any other television (that i know of). The blu ray player is a smart 3d that has the necessary apps (netflix, hulu plus). The set up is simple enough and once done everything is at your fingertip you can still play DVD movies as well its just as clear as blu ray. Bluetooth is only for cell phones or any device that can play music so you can listen to it on the system which is a pretty nifty addition. All in all its still a great investment if you want that home movie theater like sound

Bought this after I realized a soundbar just wasn't for me. This gave me the sound I was looking for. One complaint is that when listening to music through bluetooth, you have to turn it up a bit. If you switch back to listening to the tv without turning the volume down, it will be way too loud. So remember to turn it down. Set up was easy with the color-coded wires. Only other complaint is that it did not come with the required optic cable that runs from the unit to the tv. I had to buy that separately. If you go to purchase this though, just ask the worker. I bought mine as an open-box online, so it is possible this is unique to me.

This has been the worst system I’ve purchased. Volume has to be at 100 to hear anything. Searching through the forums and calling support have not helped. In fact, the solutions made no sound come out at all. Do not buy.

We got this for our family room and have loved it the entire time. It pairs with bluetooth and has lots of great apps. The sound is awesome, for sure. I asked an employee for help to tell me if the system was worth the money or not, and he initially told me to get something a little more expensive. He said I needed something with better sound quality, more ohms, more everything. Each item he described, I pointed to on the box where it met or exceeded what he told me I needed in the more expensive system. Highly recommend.

    Great Sound For The Money

Sound quality for this inexpensive system is great in my book. It was easy to set up and looks sharp. The Netflix option on the remote makes it easy to start your streaming. Then the Home key gets you back to regular TV in just seconds. The only down fall in my opinion is that no online information or the box give a length on the speaker wires. The color coded connectors make it very easy to set up but Sony does not offer any extensions. If you need more length then you'll have to cut and splice wires. I was able to make my Rec Room set up work but optional extensions would have made things much nicer. Rear speakers only come with about 35' of wire which doesn't get you very far when trying to hide them in ceilings and walls. Still, it's hard to beat for the money.

This product has a great sound, its easy to setup and connects with the internet, netfix etc, plus it has an FM tuner. My only issue with this product is that it only takes one CD / DVD at a time. Other than that, I'm very pleased with it and use it now almost everyday.

The 3D sound effect and stereo works great. Its a good value for the cost. But, sometimes, I see a problem while connecting it to my Sony Bravia TV. It goes in Standby mode, and then would have to re-sync it with my TV. Otherwise, the surround sound works better than the average ones available in the market. Also, it has a receiver for the back speakers - and that way you see less wires in your room. Overall, a good buy for the cost.

Recently got a Sharp 3D LED Smart TV and could no longer stand limiting myself to DVD. I went into my research with quite a few requirements the most important being the speakers needed to be hung using my existing threaded speaker mounts. I am happy to say this s the only sub $300 system Best Buy had that can be hung using threaded speaker mounts. Unfortunately in Sony's quest to make set up as easy as possible the speaker wires are hard wired to the speakers. I have surround sound pre-wired in my house and was forced to splice connections for it to work. Just kind of silly that they would have threading to mount but then have the cables hard wired. Sony's easy set up is great for novices but can cause some extra work for those with a bit more experience. This wasn't a deal breaker but it is the reason I only gave it 4 stars. The next requirement I had was to leverage the HDMI linking functionality (BRAVIA Link by Sony, AQUAS Link by Sharp, Viera Link by Panasonic) which allows you to control TV and surround sound system with 1 remote. Before I found a killer deal on my Sharp TV I was going to go the Panasonic route, but I cannot pass up a good deal. This meant I would have to either use a sharp surround sound or pay $$$$ for a harmony remote. Getting a Sharp surround sound was out as they do not offer Blu-ray/Surround sound in 1. Before dropping a whole bunch of money for the Harmony remote I decided to see what would happen when I hooked everything up and to my great surprise the link function worked. This allows me to control the volume and power on and off the system. It also automatically switches TV inputs when I put in a Blu-ray or DVD. Essentially my surround sound system has become my TV speakers without me having to push any extra buttons, ever! I can control everything I need using the DirecTV remote. I am very pleased with the quality of sound produced by the system though audio from the TV link is at a lower level than audio from the Blu-ray or other sources. Comparing with my new Smart TV the GUI overall does not seem quite as polished. Despite this, I am very pleased with the huge amount of streaming options available on this system. There are at least double the options compared with my new Sharp Smart TV (including Amazon). I’ll take content over polish any day! I am still trying to work out exactly how to utilize the NFC connection for streaming audit. I’ve been able to do it a few times but I have not been able to wake the system out of standby mode using my NFC Smartphone. Generally I’m pleased with the Bluetooth audit streaming function. It is much more convenient to than using the native Pandora or other streaming music players allowing you complete control without requiring you to have your TV on. Great Job Sony!

    Disappointed!

My previous Sony HTIB lasted me about 10 years and finally died! Was looking for another HTIB mainly for listening when watching TV and as an added bonus, if the unit had the ability for WiFi or streaming music from my iPhone or PC, this would be great to have! Based on those criteria, I figured this unit would meet my needs. Setup was very simply. All speakers cables are color coded, so all you need to do is match the speaker colors to the rear of the unit. The wires are very thin cheap wires but, because this has a special plug connector, you will not be able to upgrade your wiring. The length of these wires were very generous and lengthy enough to place them where needed. Next step was to connect my optical cable (not included) from the Sony HTIB to my Optimum/Cablevision Samsung cable box so I could have surround sound while watching TV. Next step was to connect my HDMI cable (not included) from the Sony HTIB to my Samsung 52" LCD HDTV. This will be require to setup the unit as well as when wanting to watch Blue-ray movies, DVDs, access the built-in WiFi apps, etc. Once all the connections were in place, I was not getting any video to begin the setup. After quickly diving into the manual, there was an area on pressing a series of keys on the player to lower the resolution. After doing so, I was now able to proceed with the setup. WiFi setup was simply and connected right away after inputting my home router settings (SSID and password). Bluetooth setup was simply and connect right away to my iPhone, iPad and notebook. Apps: I only tried a few apps...mainly YouTube. Had no issues watching YouTube videos. I was also able to sync my notebook so I could go onto YouTube on my computer and select the videos on my notebook and it would play on the TV. Doing so required you going on your notebook and going to a website and entering a PIN number that the Sony HTIB will display. I found this to be very useful as using the remote control was difficult having to select one letter at a time using the arrow key on the remote. Bluetooth: Listening to music via Bluetooth from music stored on my iPhone was very disappointing. Although the feature works fine I felt the sound quality was not there at all. I found myself needing to raise the volume to almost 90% just to have a nice clear sound. The bass was almost non-existent. When I listen to the same music within my car or using a basic 2.1 computer system, the music difference is night and day. The music sounds much crisper and has more punch than the Sony HTIB. Speakers: The speakers feel nice and not too cheap. My only complaint about them is they have that piano black finish which looks great! The problem is, this seems to attract a lot of dust and after a while, the speakers look dusty or like they are scratched up or something. Even the player was the same way. I found myself needing to dust this unit frequently and suspect you will too! Not a big deal but something worth mentioning. TV: Listening to TV movies, sporting events, etc was good but, again you need to crank this HTIB to 80-90% just to hear the voices clearly and have the good surround sound effect. The only problem with this is that if you are watching an action pack scene with lots of explosions and what not, the bass is just too high and there is no way to control this as this is a passive sub-woofer. In such cases, you find yourself having to constantly adjust the volume. Summary: This unit has a ton of things it can do and reading all of the stuff it can do and for the price, I was optimistic that this unit would meet my basic needs and than some but, in the end was disappointed and this unit is going to be returned today and will be looking into buying another HTIB that has an active sub-woofer and has somewhat more control of the unit sound. My living room is 12 x 12 (overall 12 x 24) so I guess I would consider this a medium to large size room. Perhaps this unit might work better in a smaller room, such as a bedroom but, this is pure speculation on my part. I hope this review helps others out when determining their next HTIB.

This is a GREAT system for the price (I especially like the Bluetooth feature). However, while my previous Sony Blu-ray player was a real champion with scratched rental discs, this one is a lot more sensitive. What's worse, it doesn't pause or skip when it's unhappy: instead, it does a HARD reboot, completely discarding the current session. Very annoying.
