After trying two el G products and returning them both within days due to constant wi-fi drop connections, I needed to try something else or just say the heck with it.. I'm using Sony products on my main system so decided to give this a try. Glad I did. Sound wasn't impressive out of the box, but after watching a movie at a fairly loud level, the system opened up. Bass is tight with good punch. Just keep the sub level down in the speaker setup and you'll be rewarded. Too high a setting and it's boomy. Main speakers open up and sound less boxy and start producing nice, clear highs. Good midrange as well. Plus this system plays SACD's! How many budget systems can do that?? Menu is very good and easy to navigate. Internet based movie and music works great and wi-fi stays connected. Over all, a very nice system that's enjoyable to listen to.

I purchased this item because I had done my research and the reviews of this home theater system were very good. I had a Panasonic for 8 years that had recently died. I liked some of the features that this Sony unit has so I decided to purchase it. I know Sony has been a good name in electronics as I have had Sony TV'S in the past and they were very good. I was very excited to get this set up and watch a movie with my kids. I was very disappointed with the sound quality the bass was lacking and so was the volume. The sound was clear but very low. I tried all of the adjustments and dialed it in but still had very week sound and very little bass. My living room is 12 x 18 so its not huge ,but this unit failed horribly to deliver enough sound to fill the room I had the volume all of the way up and could still have a conversation with my son who was sitting across the room. Very disappointing performance and I can not recommend this unit. I returned it to Best Buy and purchased a Panasonic BTT 465. The Panasonic is excellent and has great bass and sound quality.

I got this Sony BD system 3years ago and I was very pleased with the sound it put out. It took a lot of playing around with this system to get it to it's full power potential now I have upgrade it with same new pioneer sp-bs22 bookshelf speakers and the floor standing speakers to match by Andrew Jones when I tell you it made a big difference I'm not playing around I was like wow still love this system can't go wrong with sony

Wanted to upgrade sound from my 50" LG TV, so bought a Sony sound bar first. Was really disappointed with channel separation and frequency range. So returned that unit for this one, and what a great choice! This is a full functional 5.1 home theater system in an unobtrusive cabinet. But its not just a theater system. It's also a blue ray DVD system, FM receiver, thumb drive player, and has all kinds of network connectivity including Pandora and a bunch of Sony sites and other entertainment sites. Plus it works with the home network server on my desktop. Of all the functions, I really like the football audio mode, which makes it seem like you are sitting right in the stadium at the game. If you can't tell by now, I'm really glad that I traded in my sound bar for this unit. It meets and exceeds my needs.

Good quality sound. Takes at least 20 sec. for sound to come through tv once it's turned on. Kind of loud when playing a dvd. Those are the only complaints. Fantastic product at a great price, though, for those minor inconveniences.

Hello YvetteM! Thank you for your feedback, we will forward this information to the proper department for further review. Keep in mind that depending where the sound is coming from the time it takes to respond would vary, for example if the sound comes directly from the source such as a satellite box, game console or Blu-ray player the response time should be lesser than going through the television since it will take the amount to decode the signal and sent it through the audio out into this system. ~ Jeannette Sonystyle

Gave it as a gift for my brother and sister-in-law. easy set up and they have been enjoying it since. I haven't heard any complaints or calls to return it so I guess that means so far so good. Definitely helps that they bought a 3D sony TV to match it.

I really like this system. The sound is good and the system itself looks really nice. I just wish I could adjust the Treble and Bass settings. Not sure if there is a way, but I have looked around all of the settings and didn't see an option. But other than that, I like that fact that its set up similar to a PS3, so that is a great plus. And the Apps installed are great also. Nicely controlled with my Panasonic TV remote.

Got this for my parents. The Blu-ray player looks nice. The speakers and sound system sound and work great. It was easy to install. Though for my aging parents, the media center and menus can be a little confusing, so this product better suits people who are familiar navigating media boxes and game consoles, particularly the Playstation, as its interface is extremely similar.

Went to a best buy store to purchase a HTIB(home theater in box) for my grandparents. Went to test out all of the sound systems samsung, panasonic, lg even the samsung ones that were $500 and up. I highly recommend this one as this one blew all of them out the water, brought in my grandparent's adele music cd to test all of them out. The vocals on the Sony was very crisp the LG and Panny would be tied for second while the Samsung HTIBs would be dead last. I recommend this especially when it can outperform a samsung system that cost $500+. There is an error on this page but this SONY HTIB DOES HAVE 3D CAPABILITIES.

Great 5.1 Surround Sound System for the price o $249.99, and at 1000 watts. I would expect the best from Sony. I would definitely recommend this product. It works great with my Samsung TV and all other components used with it.

"I purchased my sony 3100 home theater system a little over a month ago and so far so good. I really like the design of the reciever and speakers and of course the built in Blu Ray player is a plus! I wish the sound was a little louder, the volume doesn't go up as high as I would like. I don't have internet access so I can't download any movies but I'am looking foward 2 it!"

You get what you pay for! I knew I should have spend a few more dollars, Sony makes great products, however, this is not one of them. It has nice features, but overall, I hate this system. It sounds like a louder version of my t.v. If this is your 1st surround sound you may like it, but for me it is a replacement and the sound quality stinks. There is no bass, it sounds plasticy (if there is such a word), and every time I turn on my t.v. it's such a hassle to get the surround sound working. Unfortunately my old system did not last long (5 years). They just don't make good quality AND affordable products any more. Back to the store this thing goes, and back to the drawing board for me. I would recommend this system to someone who is purchasing their 1st surround sound and who just wants to enhance their t.v. sound (does not care too much about the sound quality).

We received this in exchange for the Sony VDVN790W purchased in 2013 which lasted less than 2 years. Had Geek Squad protection, so they replaced it with this cheaper model, telling me it was comparable. It is not comparable; the previous model had wireless for the rear speakers and it also had 2 HDMI ports so we could plug our satellite into HDMI2 and get good sound. This model has neither of those features. The sound is not great, and the NETFLIX experience is very poor. Takes forever to load, and there's a 20 second delay between the audio starting up and the visual catching up to it. Don't tell me it's our wireless because our Roku box works just fine. Also, the remote does not seem to communicate well with the player - you have to press PAUSE numerous times, and changing the function is time consuming. I'm going to try and get Geek Squad to give me a TRULY comparable model (Best Buy sells one) and if they won't, I will not buy another Sony.

I purchased the Sony BDV-E3100 home theater system as an "open box" special. ($224.99 instead of $299.99 = $75 off) Drove 40 miles to the closest store with the open box special available. Got home, unpacked it, and unit had a few more scratches than one would expect as an "open box" item. Ok, I can live with that. Next, I notice there's no remote or manual in the box! I call the store number where purchased, sat on hold for 13 1/2 minutes (ridiculous), then I'm told we must have a remote here somewhere, come back and get one. I'm not too happy by now, I told the guy I'm not driving 40 miles back because of their error. I have a local Best Buy much closer than the store I bought it at, so I suggested they send the remote to that store, or even mail it to me. I'm told both options are not possible, and I'd have to drive back to his store to get it. I said no way I'm doing that. I asked if he can call the store near me and see if they can give me a remote. Clerk agrees, he does exactly that and calls me right back within a few minutes and says a remote will be waiting at customer service for me. So I drove down to the local store, picked up the remote, came home and set everything up. Now the product review: It's actually very good! I don't know what all the complaints are about concerning "the volume being too low", and "lack of bass". This system has tremendous bass and sound. Who cares if you have to turn the volume up to higher levels, it's irrelevant and probably just a different volume scale or something, because once you turn the volume up to a certain level, it will blow you out of the room, at least with my unit it does. Another feature is I just turn on my main FIOS remote power buttons and the whole system starts up. (no need to turn on the home theater box/cable box/tv separately-they all start up together) For $225, the open box special is a great deal. Just be sure you open the box at the store to make sure everything's in the box before you leave the store, so you don't chase after stuff afterward. I probably would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the aggravation of chasing after a remote. I noticed another buyer went through the same thing, but I didn't read his review till after I went through the same thing. Live and learn! Always a good idea to read the lower rated reviews first, so you can catch this sort of stuff before you go through it. I would definitely recommend the Sony BDV-E3100 Home Theater system. Great price, great sound!.....and I love my 60" Sony TV I bought last year at Best Buy as well, I keep giving them business. We need to support our local stores, because it's better than having them all go out of business! Plus I hate the thought of ordering my electronics online, and having them tossed around in the shipping system to get to my door. I'd rather buy stuff in a store to eliminate that.

The description of the product in BestBuy website says that this system has wireless rear speekers, but when I unpacked it was not found to be wireless. But I would like to use this system with all speakers in front because its sound quality and other internet enabled features are nice.

This is my first Home Theater in a Box and I am very pleased with it. The Sound is great. I bought Jurassic Park when I bought this and even with a low setting, My Theater Room was rumbling! The Rainfall made my friends think it was really raining outside. The Wires are a great length, maybe a bit long, but that's always a good thing.

Its a very nice product for having your home theater. The only thing is that you don't have an HDMI (in) connection for your Blu-Ray. So you cant take your cable to IN Cable box then IN Blu-Ray then OUT to TV unless you have a two way splice for and HDMI so you can watch Cable or Blu-Ray without switching the HDMI cable. Still trying to figure how to fix that part, but all else its nice sound and all.

Easy to set up. Sounds great in my den, not a large room. I was watching NASCAR and there was great separation of sound, announcers on center speaker, track sounds on surround sound speakers. Perfect system for what I need and the price was right.

For the money I'm very satisfied. The sound is very clear on both the TV as well as when I hook up my phone/laptop to the bluetooth for music. The only thing that I'm a bit disappointed with is that there is no knob to turn the subwoofer higher or lower. I like my bass to knock my socks off for that real theatre experience and this system is definitely lacking that, in my opinion. It also takes a few seconds for the system to turn on, and when changing the volume there is no indicator on the screen, so that's slightly annoying but so minor. I bought this as a Xmas present for my boyfriend and he loves it!
