Egift cards work all the time for me personally, though with the physical cards they're not activated sometimes. Go with the eGift card is my advice.

I ordered this gift card on Christmas as part of a deal. Meant to order digitally but eh, it’s fine this way…so I thought. I get it a few days later and the code is invalid. I tried scanning it, entering it manually, etc. Nothing. So that Monday I went to my local Best Buy to see their customer support. They gave me Apple’s customer support. I called them and learned that this card had in fact been voided and to contact Best Buy again. So I opted for online chat this time and learned that.”, lo and behold, the card I was sent was not activated by them when it was sent to me. They just grabbed one off the shelf, threw it in an envelope and called it a day. The chat then told me to call Best Buy’s customer support line to get it activated. The next day, I called the number, waited on hold a few minutes, told the representative my problem and she gave me the number for Best Buy card activation. I asked if this could activate non-Beat Buy gift cards and was told yes. I called this number and quickly was told that actually, no, they only do Best Buy cards. Back to square one. I then called customer service. Again. This time they determined I had been sent a card that couldn’t be activated and told me that my case had been moved to a “higher up” place in customer support and was told to send a picture of my card to [email protected] within 24 hours. I did this immediately. Today I got a message from Google that delivery of my message has not been delivered. My own speculation is that this email address simply doesn’t exist, as researching Best Buy customer service email addresses bore no sign this address, or any address, is actually a thing. So I’m left with a customer service case number and a completely useless plastic gift card. Best Buy has $100 of my money and seems to have built a customer service limbo to trap me in because this is better than giving me what I paid for.

Apple gift cards are very useful now for buying digital items like a movie or app or new hardware from the Apple Store. Used mine on an iPhone case and charging cable. Great to give as gifts as well.
