Great entry level home theater in a box!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased as a gift. Great sound, easy to set up. The supplied speaker wires are very thin, but that can be corrected. Many different sound fields are available. It does have the issue of the audio input changing to the wrong audio input (AV2 in my case) when the tv powers up. This can be corrected by going into the HDMI set up menu and turning off CES.

Better than average, almost good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please note, I purchased this item Best Buy Open Box, and I my experience may be exclusive to that fact. Contents: The first things I noticed when I opened up the box were the speaker wires and subwoofer cable. The speaker wires were extremely light gauge (probably 18-20 AWG) and the subwoofer cable was also very light. I picked up a spool of Rocketfish 16 gauge, and set to cabling. Hook-up Trying to get a 16 AWG speaker wire into the pinch connectors on the speakers is an exercise in patience. Also, once they're in there, don't tug, 16 AWG is about the largest size that should go in there, and it doesn't grip very tight. Now, connecting the speaker wires to the receiver, that's an exercise in direct frustration. For whatever reason, only the L and R front channels are equipped to accept banana plugs. The LSurr, RSurr, and Center are more of the tiny pinch connectors, with minimal clearance between connections. My numb sausage fingers didn't do so hot in the tiny spaces. I didn't really feel like attaching only four of the 10 banana plugs I had purchased, so I instead used the screw crimp lugs for the L and R channel. Lesson learned at this phase, make sure to have 5/8 of an inch exposed, otherwise the crimp won't land on the wire, and yo won't get sound out of the speakers. The subwoofer is easy, you may need to hit the power button a couple of times for it to "wake up". Connecting HDMI inputs is easy, if not a little surprising, since the receiver "told" me which cable company I was using when I plugged in the cable box. Performance Out of the box, the sound performance on this system is dismally underwhelming. Very low speaker output, and very hollow sound. The minimum volume on this system is -80 dB, you won't start hearing anything until about -25 dB. After confirming the speakers are indeed producing noise, I plugged in the YPAO mic. I would pay the $320 I paid for the whole system just to have any other system I purchase calibrated in the future. The setup literally takes about 2 minutes, and after disconnecting the mic, the speaker output is appreciably louder at the same volume. However, increased volume does come at a price. There a clearly hollow/tinny sound from center/side speakers, even after calibration. This can be alleviated somewhat by changing the sound mode, so far "Drama" and "Sports" show good results. I'm going to keep looking to see if there's a "Dynamic" or "Auto" setting. The open box didn't come with the instructions, so I'm doing a lot of learning on the fly. All in all I am satisfied with the system, just not enthralled at the moment. I will continue to tweak, will certainly revise this review if warranted. If you want to know more, feel free to reply/ask questions.

So-So
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The standard subwoofer had alot of knocking and did not want to spend a couple hundred more on an independent speaker so returned for a better system.

Sound was good, but receiver died
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The receiver died on the first night and would not work again. Probably just a fluke, but I didn't exchange for the same model.

Excellent, exactly what I was looking for.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this as an open box and was slightly unsure of what all I would be getting. When I opened it up, everything was in excellent condition. The plastic wrap was still on the center speaker and the subwoofer. Only things missing were the instructions and the center speaker cord. Set up was very simple as well. Connected speakers and AV to subwoofer then the optical cable to the tv. Sound scale is from -80 to 16.5 dBs I believe and when we are watching movies or listening to music we are usually around -18 or so. Sound is very clear and bass is awesome as well being adjustable from 0 to 10 on rear of device. Overall I am very happy with this purchase and highly consider this product!

Excellent product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yamaha is very well know for its sound quality and this product keeps true to the reputation. Setup was very simple. The sound is very crisp and clean. No issue with distortion at higher volumes and the bass sounds fairly decent. Value for the money I believe it was well worth 399$. The only thing I would like are more inputs and a larger roll of speaker wires. I would recommend this product to anyone that wants a good quality surround sound with breaking the bank.

No Problem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read reviews on this before I bought it and don't agree with any of the negative comments and all of the positive ones. Sound is fantastic, Subwoofer is good along with complete surround sound no matter what you're watching. Only wish it had USB port but Bluetooth is great. Setup is no problem I recommend Rocket fish for wireless back speakers and program HDMI on setup. Very Happy

Great value for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Decent quality speakers, excellent subwoofer, and easy to hook up Cons: a little short on speaker wire for the entire room and speaker wire connectors on the receiver can be a bit difficult to use Conclusion: for the price of this system, you're not going to do much better. I paired with an Epson 730HD projector and was able to assemble a theatre for under $1,000, which is a great system for a novice or somebody who requires a bit more quality. I'd highly recommend this system.

Great Box Set!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good receiver and speakers. Pretty easy to set up. But the instructions are not thorough. Had to research on line to find a complete set of instructions. Some of the installation and operating instructions are confusing. But all in all not bad. I would buy it again.

One Magical Box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Powerful YPAO (Auto calibrator) feature analyzes the room acoustics and adjusts various audio parameters for optimum sound in just under a minute. That's it, there after, it let's you stretch your wings, to consolidate Xbox, Blue ray, Chrome cast and TV into the receiver. I am enjoying the fine quality sound and loads of features. Big value for money. Tip - ARC Feature is my favorite of all ( I can now listen all smart tv app videos using this home theater)

Solid Home Theater
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had this system a few days, but as of right now I like this system. I like that I can upgrade the speakers in the future if I so choose. The included speakers are solid though. They all have a nice range. Set up was a little complex and the remote is just awful but that shouldn't deter you. I have yet to put it though its paces but I don't think its going to give me any problems. I have a Sony 4k 3D TV and the Bravia Sync works with the receiver. It also has 4K and 3D passthrough, so that will be nice. If you want to save money but want the option to upgrade in the future, this is the kind if HTiB you should look at.

750 watts
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system is really 750 watts not 650. The sub sounds a lot bigger than it is, and is actually quite impressive(this coming from the guy who broke his windshield with 2, 12" Pioneers). If this is only a 6.5 inch sub then I really want to get a 10". The 5.1 channel is crystal clear and maintains it's clarity even at High db levels. The mic technology used to determine the sound and db level of each individual speaker based on your room configuration, is awesome. Just set the mic where you are going to sit and it tunes the system for you perfectly. If you are going to hook it up to a PC is will take some tuning on your sound card settings to get a good sound. The 5 channel setting in the EQ is the best for music. I have had the 1000 watt Yamaha system and this very close. Great!!!
