    I already had the version of this keyboard without the joystick, and because I couldn't find the joystick being sold by itself, I bought this on a big sale because I wouldn't mind having two of these keyboards. However, the joystick is flimsy, and it couldn't differentiate between down and right when I went to map it, so it wasn't usable. I decided to just return it since I already have this keyboard and the only reason I bought it was for the joystick.

    There are many times when nostalgia has us buy retro products to bring us back to the good old day but unfortunately the quality of the products is subpar. The 8BitDo retro Mechanical keyboard with joystick is a great mechanical keyboard on its own as well as a great retro product. As soon as I took the keyboard out of the box you could tell from the build quality and weight that they were not messing around when designing this keyboard. It took me back to the days of my first Nintendo and Commodore 64 computer. The keyboard can be connected to your device via the USB cable a bluetooth connection or via the 2.4 ghz dongle which is conveniently tucked away in on the back of the keyboard. I love this because I keep the dongle plugged into my laptop when I have it docked and the wired connection is running to my desktop while the bluetooth connective allows me to connect to my phone/tablet. Switching between each mode is as simple as turning the knob on the keyboard. The keys felt nice while typing as they provide great feedback. I love the programmable A/B keys because it is nice to just use them as cut and paste which makes my spreadsheet work much easier. The include joystick can also be programmed with the 8BitDo software but I did not find much use for it for my everyday use. The joystick however is great for gaming, especially when using my NES or Atari emulators. The built in battery is rated for 200 hrs of use per charge which is still going strong after 1 week of using it. Based on the build quality I think the keyboard will last without many issues.

    Never buy this if you ever need to install an operating system or use the keyboard wired at all, the firmware is broken, the software is broken and the general experience was horrible, took me two days to return.
