I'm only giving it 2 stars because when i got it there was no digital code in it

The Steelbook did not have the insert with the digital code even though it clearly states blu-ray + digital code on the J card. Not even sure it is worth the trouble of trying to see if I can get one.

NO DIGITAL CODE.everyone I talked to could not help with this. You'll be paying full price and only get half or what you paid for.

The artwork from the steelbook isn't even from the first nightmare on elm street. It's from Freddy vs. Jason. And there is no digital code included like the j card says.

I was charged twice for this blu ray and digital copy was missing from steelbook.

There was no digital copy, which was the main reason why I bought it! I was so mad.

It is a true testament to writer-director Wes Craven's genius that many people now first think of Scream rather than A Nightmare on Elm Street upon hearing his name. While Scream certainly re-energized the horror movie genre, A Nightmare on Elm Street revolutionized it entirely when it was released in 1984. Twenty years after the fact, the movie doesn't seem quite as scary as it did originally, but this movie has truly shocked and frightened many a moviegoer over the years, resonated with untold numbers of men and women in a new and undeniably powerful way, drawn in many viewers that had never cared about horror before, and introduced one of the greatest, most popular horror icons of past, present, and future in Freddy Krueger. When you really look at the genesis of this movie, its incredible success is truly mind-boggling. Wes Craven had already made waves in the business with such horror classics as Last House on the Left, but the script for A Nightmare on Elm Street made the rounds of Hollywood for three years before the relatively unknown New Line Cinema stepped up to make the movie a reality. The total budget for the film was well under two million dollars, and the filmmakers basically worked miracles to make the film as viscerally shocking and beautifully gory as it is. A tremendous cast was assembled: veteran actor John Saxon and newcomer Johnny Depp (in his very first role) are terrific, Robert Englund needs no introduction for his unforgettable portrayal of Freddy Krueger, and a young and innocent Heather Langenkamp delivers a dazzling performance as Nancy Thompson. (Ronee Blakley's performance as Nancy's mother is over-the-top and rather poor in general, but this is essentially the movie's only weakness.) Many people think that Englund carries this film with his brilliant portrayal of the nightmarish killer, and in a sense he does, but for me it is Langenkamp's performance that absolutely makes this movie something way beyond special. I have always been a big Langenkamp fan; she brings to Nancy a mesmerizing sense of innocence, charm, and natural beauty that wins the audience over completely. Freddy is a dark and menacing presence, but he really doesn't get that much camera time in this first film; Nancy is the essential conduit that connects the audience to the horror. I don't think much is required in terms of explanations or plot summaries here. Freddy Krueger was a murderer of children who was hunted down and burned to death by local parents. He still exists, though, in the world of dreams, and now the teenaged children of the men and women who destroyed him are his targets. Nancy and her friends all begin to see this strange burnt man in an old fedora and a dirty red and olive green sweater in their dreams; Nancy soon learns that whatever happens in these awful dreams also happens in real life. The first victim dies a spectacular death, one that surely poured heaps of shock value on 1984 audiences and which still works wonderfully today. Several other notable deaths follow, and Nancy knows that she alone must face Freddy and somehow engineer a trap with which to snag him. It's not easy killing a dead man who lives in dreams, of course, but Wes Craven built a really beautiful logic into the story that makes it work convincingly. The special effects of this film are remarkable, especially given the tight budget restraints. The death scenes are powerful and bloody, the atmosphere and look of the boiler room sets in particular are dark and malevolent, everything about Freddy's look and performance are perfect, and even really cheap effects such as the phone tongue and melted stairs work beautifully. The special features included on the DVD are nothing short of superb, especially the commentary by Wes Craven, Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, and director of photography Jacques Haitkin - I learned so much from this commentary (including the fascinating true-life facts that helped give birth to the original idea in Craven's mind), all of which made me all the more impressed with this seminal horror classic. A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the most enjoyable, powerful, and influential horror films ever made, and the transfer to DVD makes this film look better than ever.

Wes Craven's arguably best (and best-known) slasher monster piece "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is one of the longest-lived pieces of slasher genre fiction in film history. It did not create the genre (Halloween did in 1978) and as far as I know the genre has never really been revolutionized, but Nightmare has an undeniable appeal, which comes largely from its creepy dream-killer narrative and one of the most memorable movie killers in history, Freddy Krueger, a disfigured maniac with a razor-claw glove that he uses to gruesomely violent ends. This is the story of young Nancy, who, after the horrific death of a friend in her sleep, begins to find her nightmares plagued by a disfigured monster/man, whom she eventually learns is Freddy Krueger, who was a child serial killer during his lifetime. After Freddy was released from prison, a group of parents from the neighborhood got together a good-old-fashioned posse and burned the killer alive, but before his death he swore that he would avenge himself on their children. As it turns out, he kept his promise, and has returned to claim them in their dreams. There is plenty of lasting appeal to the film. It's not art by most means, but it has a definite style to it, thanks to a very competent direction from horror legend Wes Craven, who does some of his best work ever here. The film is also helped greatly by an unforgettable turn from Robert Englund, who will always be best remembered for this character, and who is at the scariest he's ever been here. After this film, Freddy became a somewhat lighter character, often spouting out one-liners before slashing his victims to ribbons. There are also a few very memorable, classic horror scenes here. My personal favorites are the scene where Nancy falls asleep in class and dreams of being stalked in an abandoned factory of sorts. Freddy gives his best line here ("Come to Freddy"), and the framing of the shots, which keeps Freddy's identity obscure and mostly shows just bits and pieces of him is very effective. The other great scene is one in which one of the characters is layng one his bed and suddenly Freddy's hand comes out and pulls him into the bed, and all of his blood shoots out toward the ceiling. As far as horror movies go, that's downright art. This is a classic, and has mostlly survived the test of time. The special effects quality is high by mid-80's standards, and it's not too laughable even today. If you like the genre, this is one to see.

While its commonplace for movies to get money-milking "deluxe" and "ultimate" rereleases on DVD, this Platinum Series issue of the classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is worthy of such a title. Far supassing the original 1999 single disc release, this expansive two disc set has almost everything a fan would want. Remastered audio and video, a comprehensive and lengthy documentary featuring all new interviews with creator Wes Craven, stars Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp and Amanda Wyss (for starters), two commentary tracks (one all new for this release and a great one ported from the previous disc), and a great featurette with other horror masters talking about Freddy and the phenomeon. The movie itself is a classic. Before he was watered down in the endless sequel parade, Freddy Krueger was a truly frightening horror figure. Watching just the opening scene is particularing jolting and commands your dramatic attention. Say goodbye to the one liners after each murder... the cartoonish gore and violence of "Nightmares" 4 and 5... this Freddy is dark, menacing, and he means business. The only drawback is the set is missing standalone deleted scenes and production footage that was featured on the 1995 2-VHS set released by Anchor Bay. Although some such footage is in the documentary, it would have been nice to see these as a branching feature, or by themselves as a special feature. Overall, this is really giving a horror classic the respect and treatment it deserves.

Since the NOES series is my favorite horror series of all time, I thought I'd write out reviews for all the movies. Nightmare On Elm Street...an instant classic. How you can you beat an idea like falling asleep, being chased by someone like Freddy Krueger, killed in your dream, and dying for real while you sleep? It probably has to be one of the most innovative ideas in horror, ever! The pace in this movie is great. Doesn't go too fast, doesn't go to slow where you lose interest. It's nice to be able to follow Nancy on her downward spiral into insanity. And how could you not get freaked out at how Tina was thrashed around the room? And how much blood shot up out of Glen's bed? This movie is a masterpeice.

A Nightmare On Elm Street came out when i was about 17 years old and let me tell you it scared the living stuff outta me. Once i found out this movie was coming out in high definition it was a must to get. And i found one on the internet on e-bay and i purchased it for around 40 something dollars! (which is really good considering it is an OOP at the moment) And i just wanted to let everyone know that they are not making a bad choice at all by purchasing this classic film that is always an enjoyable one.

Nancy is having nightmares about a frightening, badly-scarred figure who wears a glove with razor-sharp "finger knives". She soon discovers that her friends are having similar dreams. When the kids begin to die, Nancy realizes that she must stay awake to survive. Uncovering the secret identity of the dream killer and his connection with the children of Elm Street, the girl plots to draw him out into the real world.

Well i picked this copy up in Canada since it came out there such a long time ago but only for a short amount of time and i paid close to 100$ for a copy since it was OOP and rare. And now it is coming out here in the US and now i feel like an idiot :P ! but who cares the only thing i would change is there is not to many extras on the blu ray just basically the film i would have to say. But i dont buy movies for extras .

Everything was great, until I noticed there is no movie ticket. Besides the intial plastic on the outside of the film, there was no secuirty plastic stickers on the edges of the box. I checked everyone at the store and they were all the same. Ill be returing there tommorw to straigten things up. But besides that this is a perfect transfer with a solid picture and plunty of goods for the pass time.

This was one of the first horror movies I saw back in the day. I loved it and I still do! Sadly, Nightmare On Elm Street is one of the only horror movies that actually scared me (at least a little) the first time I saw it. Scary flicks today got nothing, 90% of them are awful. In conlcusion, this movie rocks, new movies suck, and Freddy would kill Jason anyday!

NOES, a classic... introduces Freddy Krueger AND Johnny Depp... this Infinifilm version is THE definitive version for movie collectors like myself... the remastered picture & audio are top-notch and there is no shortage of extras on the 2nd disc... if you like horror films (or you're just a J.Depp fan) this 1 is a must-have!

This movie started a decade of sequels, and thats before special effects were computerized. This movie made some adults scared to sleep at night, so of course this is greatness. Although it got worse with every sequel being more comical than scary, but Elm Street set the standard for horror flicks.

My husband got this movie while he was in Canada on a business trip and he brought me this blu ray of a nightmare on elm street as a gift since he knows i'm a big fan of the series! And let me tell you one thing, you will not be disappointed one bit with Freddy in High Def. !

The first nightmare that started it all will have you up all night with fear of going to sleep. Check the closets, lock the doors, and bar your windows. 1,2 Freddy's coming for you. 3,4 better lock your doors. 5,6 get a crucifix. 7,8 better stay up late. 9,10 never sleep again.
