Besides being a decent brand and a good size for viewing, having both HDMI and VGA inputs is good for me because I now I need just one monitor on the desk. This monitor is good, but the purchasing experience, especially the staff at the Hawk's Prairie store was excellent.

    Acceptable Budget Monitor

This 24 Series Acer monitor offers some nice features at it's pricepoint, such as an IPS screen, 1 ms response time, and Freesync -- an adaptive synchronization technology for LCD displays that helps eliminate screen tearing, stuttering and juddering by synchronizing the monitor’s refresh rate with the framerate from your graphics card. This Acer has an HDMI port and a standard VGA port. The picture out of the box was okay, and here is where I ran into an issue: Display adjustments. There is a single "joystick" type switch, and buttons which in combination are used to navigate the menus. Unfortunately, after fiddling with it for 10 minutes I could not get to a point in the menus to select what I wanted to adjust. When it indicated to move the joystick to the left or right to make the selection, it immediately tried to apply a settings change to eco mode. The menu navigation was so poor I couldn't figure it out -- and I do this for a living! At the default settings the display was acceptable, but the colors were a but understated, and blue skies looked had a gray hue to it, and all the colors looked as if everything was toned down slightly. In the end, it was left at the default settings as I was simply too frustrated to continue. In the end, it was left at the default settings The Acer KA242YAbi has very good features which gives it value, and works as both a productivity and gaming monitor, but overall the picture did not stand out in any way, though one may be able to improve that if they can figure out to navigate the user interface -- which was the worst I've used in quite some time, making it difficult to recommend it.

ACER Gaming monitor does a good job

Gaming on the ACER monitor is really good. The clarity of the games are very responsive and the refresh rate is really good. The quality of the monitor is why I gave it 4 stars. It feels a bit on the cheaper side. I have bought some really nice monitors and would definitely say this monitor looks good, but feels a bit cheap. The monitor controls are very nice and adjusts as expected. I would recommend this for the price point for a really good gaming monitor due to the gaming experience.

Acer is one of those companies whose product quality seems to continue trending upscale, adopting newer technology into their product line, while pricing below their competitors. Here we have a very decent gaming monitor that checks all the right boxes, well, almost (more below) I tested this with an AlienWare / Nvidea GeForce 2080 Super graphics card, as well as Xbox X and PS5. Colors seem accurate, 1 ms response time is tremendous. Only real complaints might be 23.8-inch screen size seems quite small next to an LG 38-ultra widescreen and 1920x1080 resolution leave game details lacking. In Acer’s defense thus is not intended as Uber high end, but middle upper quality for super affordable pricepoint. Considering this it’s a success. Pros + 75 hz refresh + 1 ms response + AMD FreeSync + super thin bezel + anti-glare coating + HDMI and VGA inputs + bright vibrant colors Cons -no frills basics -lack of Display Port -1080p vs 4k resolution -extra HDMI would be nice Conclusion Acer brings a very strong contender in a crowded filled. They stayed middle of the road, with a decent offering at aggressive price point. Recommended Buy (as long as you can live with limitations like input compatibility, and don’t need more than 1080 res.)

Using for a desktop expansion, for which it is a high quality display. I dock it because even though using the 100mmx100mm mount it is still half an inch lower that the companion HP display with a similar mount pattern. Odd that it has to be different. Also, returned it but for the price.

I enjoy the near zero bezel on this monitor making for a nice crisp viewing experience from any angle. The physical controls on the back leave a lot of the desired. The top control button is for the power, the lower 3 control the menus along with a joystick for menu navigation and I found myself powering off the display more times than I cared too because I thought I was pressing the selection buttons. The stand it ships with only tilts up or down slightly and does not include height adjustment support. Which means if your primary computer is a desktop this monitor is good, but if your primary device is a laptop and you want to use this monitor as a secondary display, or as a primary display and still use the keyboard on the laptop, the height is too low for this to be a good experience. It does have a VESA mount so you can over come this limitation with 3rd party mounting options. Another grips is that there's no cable mgmt built into the display stand so you just end up with two cables hanging down on each side.

I’ve been using the Acer KA242YAbi for about 5 days now and, on paper, everything looks good. Fast response rate, 1080P , AMD FreeSync compatible , small bezel and a 3 year warranty. Well, on paper versus real world are two entirely different things. First, let’s look at the good points. The response rate is excellent, I could not discern any major flickering. There was no truly measurable input lag. For everyday use, text was sharp and clear. Viewing angle was excellent, you can be offset to a high degree and still see the picture. The OSD (On-Screen Display) menu is robust with many adjustments for color, brightness and the mode you want for the picture. If I had to pick something as the best feature of the monitor, it would be the number of settings you have. Where it does stand out is the 3-year warranty. There is competition that has 3 year warrantees as well but there are quite a few that only have 1 year . Unfortunately, there are not many good things after the few above. First, the Acer KA242YAbi monitor is just low end. Everything about it feels cheap. From the bare unfinished metal where the SVGA and HDMI inputs are to the lack of height adjustment – it is just low end. The base is so lightweight that it can easily be knocked over. Colors are underwhelming and I tried every adjustment to make it look better. There are no blacks, it is all shades are gray. In fact, the overall screen has this grey haze to it. Brightness is passable at 250 nits but it looks dimmer than that when next to another monitor at the same brightness. If you notice, I really do not get into the technical specs too much. There are plenty of reviews here as well as the Bestbuy listing that go over that in detail and I do not think it helps most people in real world applications. Even with setting the proper expectations (and they should be low for this price point,) this is not a great monitor. At its regular price of $160, that are far better monitors at the same price of $20 more. I have an Asus and HP monitor to compare it to and both had better pictures and ergonomics. I really cannot recommend this unless you are on a tight budget and catch it on sale for $100 or less. It is really more suited to a young gamer who you may not want to buy a higher end monitor for just yet. Save up a few more dollars and get something that gives you far more for your money.
