    Great for architecture students

Had to make a quick decision when my previous laptop of 10+ years died the first week of semester. Knew I'd have to replace it eventually, but not on such short notice. Very pleased that I was able to figure out all the parameters of this laptop. Incredibly pleased with the core speed, though I still get a bit nervous when the primary fans come on at the same time. Technically can change the speed and response time of the fans in the Nitrosense, but haven't got the courage. Just reminds me of my old laptop trying to run the Sims 3. Also very happy with the graphics settings and fidelity. I can run the blender and 3D render software for my architecture classes without lagging/fuzzing. So far, the battery life is fine -- not great, and I prefer to keep it plugged in anyway; I don't always need to bring it around campus, so there's no issue there.

Powerful Enough for Any Game; Useful Network App

This laptop has enough GPU and CPU power and memory (16GB) to play any game. I tested it out on my favorite MMO (massive multiplayer online) and FPS (first person shooter) games and it performs flawlessly. The game video rendering is sharp and smooth, and the color is vivid. The Intel i5 CPU and the Nvidia RTX 3050 ti along with the 144 Hz display panel refresh rate is good enough for this laptop's full HD 2K resolution. It has a 512 GB SSD which is sufficient for at least a half dozen games, I only have 2 or 3 that I play regularly anyway. Features that I like include DTS X Ultra sound that is very good with headphones, a camera, a number keypad, and an app called Killer Intelligence Center, which can analyze and optimize the laptop's network performance. That is a very useful app, I wish I had it on my other gaming laptop! It has all the necessary ports, 3 USB, 1 Thunderbolt C, ethernet, 3.5mm jack, HDMI. There are a couple of features this laptop doesn't have that I wish it did. The ability to change the keyboard backlight color, its color is an intense red, not my favorite. Also is has no visual settings for game types or color temperatures. These are minor but nice-to-have personalization features that I wish Acer had included. Overall, the above notwithstanding, I would recommend this laptop for any casual gamer. You really don't need to spend more money for a higher end machine to enjoy great gaming experiences. The only reason I would step up is if you thought you had to have 4K resolution, but to me the full HD 2K resolution on this laptop is good enough for an enjoyable gaming experience.

Great gaming laptop that can do additional tasks

The Acer - Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop FHD-Intel 12th Gen Core i5 is a good laptop for gaming and other tasks. It comes with NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and has a 512GB SSD. This laptop is plenty fast for the games and tasks I use. It has a good screen with a matte finish. The matte finish is great while using it in areas where a light or window is behind you. It has a good keyboard with keys that are tactile with plenty of key travel. The keys are backlit in a red color. The backlit keys will only last about 30 seconds or so, then they will turn off. I haven’t found a way to adjust it. Perhaps it’s in the settings and I overlooked it. Swiping the trackpad does not bring the lights back on. I have to press a physical key on the keyboard to get the lights on the keyboard to come back on. It has several USB ports, Ethernet port, USB-C port, HDMI port, and Headphone jack. The laptop has a fast processor and the fan noise is at a minimum. I can barely hear it at times. When it does ramp up, it’s not as loud as some of my other gaming and Windows laptops. I do have several gripes. The bottom of the screen has a large screen. It looks kind of weird to me because all my other laptops don’t have a chin that large at the bottom of the screen. The charging brick provides plenty of power to charge it up, but it’s quite heavy. There is no Windows Hello and no Fingerprint log in options. The speakers are also lacking bass. They are OK, but not great. With that in mind, the laptop serves my purpose well.

Beautiful right out of the box, including the foam holding it in place. The sleek design, the red glow on the keyboard. It's just so cool and I love this laptop. And obviously we're going to start with gaming and how great and easy it is on this laptop. I have owned mini computer and console in my day but this is by far one of the fastest. I was smart enough to reserve it strictly for gaming and nothing else. In the past I have had that issue where I have loaded other programs onto it and it slowed the computer down. Obviously between not shutting down programs properly and overrunning my previous computers that made for not a great ownership experience. Now being a little smarter taking I plan to make this gaming laptop last for a while. Next design. First of all I love that there is a power attachment on the back and not on the sides. Also an HDMI in the back the way I feel like most laptops should be designed. Your typical USB ports are on the side like they should be. Booting up the first time accessibility will reach out to you if you need it first. Just sit there and the computer will introduce itself and tell you what to do. This is a must-have. So have it.

    Good mid range gaming laptop

The Acer Nitro 5 is a mid range gaming laptop. It comes with a 12th Generation Intel i5 12450H. This comes with 4 performance cores and 4 efficient cores with a total of 12 threads. It has 16GB of ram. It has two slots with two Micro MTA8ATF1G64HZ-3G2R1. They are running at 3200 MT/s at 1.2V. It is very easy to open the laptop and perform upgrades such as ram and storage. You will need a putty knife or something similar to slide in to pry the cover once the screws are removed. The storage is a Micron MTFDKBA512TFH with 512GB in size. It is M.2 NVME. According to documents, it can write up to 5000 MB/s and read up to 6600 MB/s. I just ignore these numbers. It’s fast. The boot up and reboot time is fast. The wifi is Killer AX1650i. It supports Wifi6 with a max speed of 2.4Gbps. I ran a test on fast.com and I was getting 340 Mbps download and 250 Mbps upload. I have fiber 1GB speeds. What I also like is it has an ethernet port. It’s a Killer E2600. Many laptops only come with wifi so I appreciate it coming with this. It also has bluetooth adapter. Another plus so you can connect wireless peripherals. The laptop has available SATA port and M.2. I don’t have any spare to test it but it does come with screws and cables. I’m not sure if you can use both at the same time or one will disable the other. But this is a great option if you consider upgrading in the future. An annoying Microsoft Windows 11 set up is not being able to create a local account. You have to use a Microsoft account. There is a way to bypass it. Just Google "windows 11 bypass microsoft account". Toms Hardware has an article on it. This is not an Acer thing but a Microsoft thing. Other than that, this is a great mid range gaming laptop. Battery life is about 1.5 hours. My son plays on Steam. You can probably extend this by adjusting settings. It’s not all that long. There were times the trackpad became jittery. So we use a USB mouse. It has 3x USB3 type A ports. It has 1 USB-C port and can charge from it. Not as fast as the barrel plug but it’s convenient. It also has a full size HDMI port. Overall, it’s a nice laptop.

JUST RIGHT FOR A BASIC GAMING LAPTOP

The Acer - Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop FHD-Intel 12th Gen Core i5- NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050 Ti- 16GB DDR4- 512GB PCIe-SSD is a solid choice for a basic gaming laptop. Especially at the current price on BEST BUY of $150 off. The specs are not overwhelming, but neither are they underwhelming. Actually they’re very solid for a gaming laptop at this price-point. I have no complaints for my gaming experience with this unit. It provided a surprisingly strong performance for what it offers. Actually better than I was expecting. The overall build is reasonably solid with no glaring disappointments or concerns. I like the understated minimal highlights. I do wish the keyboard backlight color could be adjusted to something other than red. Although I understand the rationale for including the keypad on a gaming laptop, I have never cared for that myself. But, of course, I connect a controller and have no use for the added keys. So, for me, it takes away from the overall size of the keys and forces the trackpad to be placed off-center. Since that’s standard on most gaming laptops, I don’t mark the Acer Nitro 5 off for that. There is a good variety of connections included: It has an Ethernet port, a USB-A port, a headphone jack and a Kensington lock key on the left side. There are two USB-A ports on the right. On the back, there are USB-C and HDMI ports. The 1080HD screen is actually very good compared to similar gaming laptops I’ve used. The sound is good through the speakers in terms of what you usually expect from basic gaming laptops. But that means you don’t get much from the bass end. This is normal and to-be-expected. On the other hand, sound through headphones and external speakers is great, which is also to-be-expected. All-in-all, the Acer - Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop FHD-Intel 12th Gen Core i5- NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050 Ti- 16GB DDR4- 512GB PCIe-SSD is a very solid product. Nothing stands out as extraordinary, but neither does anything stand out as disappointing. This makes it just right for it’s target users.

First off I am a fan of Acer but also a realist. If you are going in getting this laptop expecting to play all the new AAA games at high settings and get 60fps it won’t work. Well that’s not completely true either in some cases it will but not all games. So let’s go look at some of the positives. Design: really cool looking laptop with a nice RCB keyboard and not overly heavy. I use a laptop chiller to support the two fans that work very well to cool it internally At 1080 resolution the Acer does fantastic at high resolution or sometimes if you prefer to keep the fps steady and high you can go a bit more medium on the graphics. I play Diablo 4 and it looks and plays fantastic. Negatives? Yes the 512 ssd. It’s fast but 512 isn’t enough of you want to add pictures and games and documents. Sure you can buy external hds so I won’t take away stars but should have had more. The I5 is a good choice as it doesn’t get hot but also isn’t the best multitasking processor which again isn’t what a gaming system is designed for so no stars removed. Overall: a solid choice and especially for the price. Acer keeps getting more and more reliable as gaming laptops go.

I bought this computer 1.5 years ago and it still runs amazing. I bought it for playing The Sims, and the game (along with 100% of expansion/game/stuff packs) runs very smoothly. The reason for the 4 stars is that the colors could stand to be a bit better. But at this price point, I was not expecting stellar graphics. It does what it is supposed to, and has amazing longevity. I have zero issues with this laptop. Side note: When people ask about a mid-priced laptop to play games on this laptop is recommended more than any other. Period. Also, if your monitor ever just suddenly starts shutting off when you go to type, be sure you are not wearing a bracelet or watch with a magnet in it. It trips the magnet that turns off the monitor when you close the laptop.
