Good mid range gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Nitro 5 is a mid range gaming laptop. It comes with a 12th Generation Intel i5 12450H. This comes with 4 performance cores and 4 efficient cores with a total of 12 threads. It has 16GB of ram. It has two slots with two Micro MTA8ATF1G64HZ-3G2R1. They are running at 3200 MT/s at 1.2V. It is very easy to open the laptop and perform upgrades such as ram and storage. You will need a putty knife or something similar to slide in to pry the cover once the screws are removed. The storage is a Micron MTFDKBA512TFH with 512GB in size. It is M.2 NVME. According to documents, it can write up to 5000 MB/s and read up to 6600 MB/s. I just ignore these numbers. It’s fast. The boot up and reboot time is fast. The wifi is Killer AX1650i. It supports Wifi6 with a max speed of 2.4Gbps. I ran a test on fast.com and I was getting 340 Mbps download and 250 Mbps upload. I have fiber 1GB speeds. What I also like is it has an ethernet port. It’s a Killer E2600. Many laptops only come with wifi so I appreciate it coming with this. It also has bluetooth adapter. Another plus so you can connect wireless peripherals. The laptop has available SATA port and M.2. I don’t have any spare to test it but it does come with screws and cables. I’m not sure if you can use both at the same time or one will disable the other. But this is a great option if you consider upgrading in the future. An annoying Microsoft Windows 11 set up is not being able to create a local account. You have to use a Microsoft account. There is a way to bypass it. Just Google "windows 11 bypass microsoft account". Toms Hardware has an article on it. This is not an Acer thing but a Microsoft thing. Other than that, this is a great mid range gaming laptop. Battery life is about 1.5 hours. My son plays on Steam. You can probably extend this by adjusting settings. It’s not all that long. There were times the trackpad became jittery. So we use a USB mouse. It has 3x USB3 type A ports. It has 1 USB-C port and can charge from it. Not as fast as the barrel plug but it’s convenient. It also has a full size HDMI port. Overall, it’s a nice laptop.

JUST RIGHT FOR A BASIC GAMING LAPTOP
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer - Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop FHD-Intel 12th Gen Core i5- NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050 Ti- 16GB DDR4- 512GB PCIe-SSD is a solid choice for a basic gaming laptop. Especially at the current price on BEST BUY of $150 off. The specs are not overwhelming, but neither are they underwhelming. Actually they’re very solid for a gaming laptop at this price-point. I have no complaints for my gaming experience with this unit. It provided a surprisingly strong performance for what it offers. Actually better than I was expecting. The overall build is reasonably solid with no glaring disappointments or concerns. I like the understated minimal highlights. I do wish the keyboard backlight color could be adjusted to something other than red. Although I understand the rationale for including the keypad on a gaming laptop, I have never cared for that myself. But, of course, I connect a controller and have no use for the added keys. So, for me, it takes away from the overall size of the keys and forces the trackpad to be placed off-center. Since that’s standard on most gaming laptops, I don’t mark the Acer Nitro 5 off for that. There is a good variety of connections included: It has an Ethernet port, a USB-A port, a headphone jack and a Kensington lock key on the left side. There are two USB-A ports on the right. On the back, there are USB-C and HDMI ports. The 1080HD screen is actually very good compared to similar gaming laptops I’ve used. The sound is good through the speakers in terms of what you usually expect from basic gaming laptops. But that means you don’t get much from the bass end. This is normal and to-be-expected. On the other hand, sound through headphones and external speakers is great, which is also to-be-expected. All-in-all, the Acer - Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop FHD-Intel 12th Gen Core i5- NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050 Ti- 16GB DDR4- 512GB PCIe-SSD is a very solid product. Nothing stands out as extraordinary, but neither does anything stand out as disappointing. This makes it just right for it’s target users.

Will get the job done
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off I am a fan of Acer but also a realist. If you are going in getting this laptop expecting to play all the new AAA games at high settings and get 60fps it won’t work. Well that’s not completely true either in some cases it will but not all games. So let’s go look at some of the positives. Design: really cool looking laptop with a nice RCB keyboard and not overly heavy. I use a laptop chiller to support the two fans that work very well to cool it internally At 1080 resolution the Acer does fantastic at high resolution or sometimes if you prefer to keep the fps steady and high you can go a bit more medium on the graphics. I play Diablo 4 and it looks and plays fantastic. Negatives? Yes the 512 ssd. It’s fast but 512 isn’t enough of you want to add pictures and games and documents. Sure you can buy external hds so I won’t take away stars but should have had more. The I5 is a good choice as it doesn’t get hot but also isn’t the best multitasking processor which again isn’t what a gaming system is designed for so no stars removed. Overall: a solid choice and especially for the price. Acer keeps getting more and more reliable as gaming laptops go.

Great Laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer 1.5 years ago and it still runs amazing. I bought it for playing The Sims, and the game (along with 100% of expansion/game/stuff packs) runs very smoothly. The reason for the 4 stars is that the colors could stand to be a bit better. But at this price point, I was not expecting stellar graphics. It does what it is supposed to, and has amazing longevity. I have zero issues with this laptop. Side note: When people ask about a mid-priced laptop to play games on this laptop is recommended more than any other. Period. Also, if your monitor ever just suddenly starts shutting off when you go to type, be sure you are not wearing a bracelet or watch with a magnet in it. It trips the magnet that turns off the monitor when you close the laptop.

Its compact and light and well built. The mouse track works well, it boots fast and is perfect to do work on. My only one minor gripe is that the button color cant be chnaged but its a very minor one. Very happy with the laptop so far.

Great for starter. Max is junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replying to on buyer that said its a nice gaming laptop, but its not a mac. Well first macs are garbage for gaming and they are not androind compatible, they are basically studdy buddies and work laptops. This a hreat start for beginner gaming laptop. Person doesn need a $3000 from start.

Great laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned one of these laptops before and it got heat damage due to not propping it up. This is a great laptop that has a really good graphics card that can handle games and support a second display. The fans keep it really cool just be sure to get a laptop stand or prop it up so the laptop can breathe. Just a tip. The ram is only 8gs and can be upgraded. I would buy this again

Solid Performer!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a substantial unit. Not light by an means and with a decent, 15" screen. It really could be a main computer. My first initial thought, was it wasn't touch screen. I know on gaming laptops its not a thing, but for someone who has gotten used to a touchscreen this was a drawback. I kept trying tp 'short cut' using the screen. The screen was bright and impressive, and no color bleed. It has a 144 refresh rate and it showed. Response was excellent and keyboard and touchpad feel were excellent. The red backlit keyboard was nice but after awhile the red was distracting, if not uncomfortable to my eyes. I should point out I like the color red, but in this situation, it wasn't ideal. Sound was good but I had expect more. It seemed lacking in bass and for such a large laptop, I guess I expected better, but it wasn't bad! I did not see any USC C ports which was missed by me. There is one of the back, but the label makes me think its for charging- will have to investigate further, but that was only 1! It does have 3 of the regular USB ports. Battery life was ok. After a few games and a video (maybe 3 hrs- it was at 10%) All in all, not a bad machine. The screen really shines, but its not for carrying around, and as a gaming machine, it passes.

A Decent Entry Level Gaming Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop isn't slow by any means, but one also shouldn't expect any real power to play modern games at higher settings. That said, the screen - with it's pretty decent refresh rate - also only "Full HD" (1920x1080), so it's not made to game at 4K anyway. But what you do get is a gaming laptop with plenty of full-sized ports, a keyboard that feels better playing games on it than simple regular typing, and some useful (if not basic) system control through the NitroSense app. The overall laptop is a little clunky, to me. One, the power supply is your usual large brick; but second, the laptop, itself, feels fairly heavy and thick. Like most gaming laptops of this sort, it's not really geared for carrying around place to place. There is one major area that I give Acer credit for here: Expandability. Aside from its basic specs, there is room to add another NVMe drive AND a 2.5 SSD - and Acer even includes the drive cable and extra screws to install it. The memory sticks are also accessible and the entire chassis is easy to remove to get to the components. So yes, it can play modern games - just don't expect high end. But the more classic stuff? No problem at all. Luckily, I tend to play those types of games more anyway.

Great gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in need of a new gaming laptop and I decided to pick this up during a Best Buy sale. It feels solidly built and the keyboard is comfortable to type on. It’s run every game I’ve thrown at it without any issues. I added a 2nd m.2 drive for more storage, which was easy to do. It’s also easy to add more RAM if you need to. The only negative I’ve found is the touchpad isn’t the easiest to use, but that’s not unusual for Windows laptops. If you’re a gamer you’re going to use an external mouse anyway. I unfortunately can’t speak on the battery as I only use it plugged in.
