Customers are saying
Customers consistently note the excellent performance and large screen size as major strengths of the Nitro 5 gaming laptop. Positive feedback also highlights the good graphics, RAM, keyboard, and overall value for the price. However, some users mention that the battery life could be improved, and the laptop's weight and potential for fan noise are recurring concerns. While some users find the laptop runs warm, others report it as easy to use and upgrade.

Solid Performance and Build Quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop comes well packaged from the factory and also includes a laptop sleeve for storage. The 17.3 inch HD screen is the perfect size if you are using as a desktop replacement. Games have vibrant colors and movies look as good as on a regular TV. I was very surprised at how well AAA games play on this unit. The GTX 1650 graphics card is designed to handle most any current game at medium to high settings. The newest i5 series in this unit performs as well at the last generation i7 processors. What I think really sets this laptop apart is how easy Acer made to upgrade it. The stock build will handle the needs of the casual gamer. I like to get the most out of my gaming and this laptop is awesome for handling future upgrades. Acer recommends all upgrades be done at an authorized service center. The back has several screws and once out the clips can be a little difficult to remove. For the upgrader, it is very friendly once you are inside. There are two RAM slots that can be upgraded to 32 GB. The stock 512 GB harddrive is M.2 memory and is designed to handle a second M.2 harddrive. In addition, it has a third 2.5'' harddrive slot. What is really surprising is they even include the screws needed to install the 2.5'' harddrive. It is working very well now and I'm sure I'll upgrade it later. The Acer Nitro application gives you full control of the fan and sound settings. It includes (3) 3.0 USB slots and (1) HDMI output. It also has a USB-C slot as well. If you are looking for a laptop that is budget friendly, performs well and can easily be upgraded this is a great choice.

Great value at a great price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love testing the Acer Nitro 5! This is the second Nitro I have and proud to say that I have become a champion for these units. Pro: Price, Power, Performance, Product design, Picture size Con: Battery, Picture Color, Expandable, Internal Sound I will break these down because pros are great and even the cons aren't that bad. Price wise, this unit brings a premium unit at a reasonable offering. Power & Performance, in short, She's a monster and with solid state drive she'll stay that way for years to come. (I streamed an external web cam, played a HD movie, played a game, and was opening tabs in Chrome excessively, and the computer just laughed it ALL off and was ready for more. Product Design, it's pretty and glows red while typing. Picture size, the screen is over 17" and feels like the comfort of a separate monitor. Cons: Battery, the screen will drain it...Big Screen = power drain,,, use dark mode(s) when available and tone down the brightness to combat the need for an outlet. The color on a high-end gaming laptop should be WOW and unfortunately Nitro's are more like wow. Please don't hear a negative tone though, the graphic card is amazing, and you will not miss a shred of detail. Some previous models had hatches underneath, that allowed for easy memory and storage expansion. I liked this feature but perhaps with the SSD it is not a requirement. Sound, but who uses the internal speakers anyway. Again, I love it and it has easy become my daily driver for all my computing needs. I hope you enjoy as much as I do

It's held up great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for 3 years and it's been a champ. It's held up to endless hours of gaming with very little issues up until late but that's due to the newer games having to take so much.

Fast and Powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first gaming laptop so I did not know what to expect. Right out of the box I was surprised how big it was. I guess I am not used to a 17" laptop. After I picked it up I was also surprised how light it is. I have a 15" HP that is easily 25 percent heavier. After powering it up I went through the normal Windows setup process. It seems to take longer than ever now. Anyways, about 30 minutes later I was up and running. When I started to browse the web to lookup some base apps like Chrome and STEAM I noticed how fast the laptop was. Just for normal tasks it was flying. The solid state drove and 9th gen i5 processor make this machine buttery smooth and fast. After installing STEAM and buying a few games I could not wait to play. I was blown away. I was having so much fun while admiring the smooth graphics and bright 1080p display. I did not even have to hook it up to a TV because the 17" display is plenty big. I then hooked it up to my 65" TV and felt right at home like I was on a current gen gaming system. I was very pleased. I then loaded some emulators and some backups of my old game system games and I was now in heaven. Everything just runs so effortless and smooth. I can honestly say that I am loving every minute playing on the Nitro 5, and yes I am typing this review on it!

Noticably better than my tower system!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The packaging was secure and the laptop looked great out of the box. Initial setup and use was easy. Gaming performance was very crisp and the graphics and refresh rates were excellent on WoW, LoL, and DOTA. I have a Dell Inspiron 5675 tower that I've been using for a couple years and this laptop was noticeably better in terms of graphics and lag/refresh.

Great Gaming laptop for the money
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I felt this was well built and had enough Gaming features for the budget. It booted up fast and ran incredibly cool for so much power. I was able to get 4 hrs of mixed use out before the battery died. The red backlit keyboard is a nice touch. As for the horse power and Graphics card. I feel that it is about 10-15% better than the last Generation 1050 I had in my previous notebook. Really when you stick all these components in such a slim chassis there is heat and it needs to lower the speeds to keep from melting down. As for the Screen. It was just ok. It did not cover the full RGB by a large margin and this model only had the 60hz panel and not the 144hz which is a let down. In the past I have not been a fan of Acer but this is starting to improve my opinion. Still I wonder how the warranty process is if I have an issue. Overall I think it is the best value for the money. You vet a 17" gaming laptop for the size and weight of a 15".

Great Gaming PC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perfect Size. The red accent light is a little cheesy. Heavy weight makes it stable so it doesn't move around while gaming. Beautiful looking screen. Very fast, no lag whatsoever.

A month to repair a defective battery?
Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The overall performance is great except for one thing. After 2 1/2 months, the battery stopped charging, They tell me I have to wait for up to a month to get it repaired. I can't think of any other product where you have to wait a month to get a defective product repaired or replaced. Will not buy another Acer ever.

Posted .Dear Texas,
We understand this is frustrating. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 the repair turnaround time had to be extended to 15-20 business days. Our repair techs are working extended hours to meet this time frame and will do their best to get your laptop repaired and shipped back to you. We understand this is frustrating and we anticipate the repair time will go back to normal once this crisis is over.
We appreciate you taking the time to write this review and offer your feedback.

Should be a decent laptop with the 1650 graphics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I need a laptop with a graphics card that can play a MMO game from 2004. City Of Heroes was just re-released in May 2019! The graphics are still from 2014, so I don't need a major leap for current gen graphics. The 1650 should be way more than I need for this fantastic game!

Powerful laptop for the price, lasted one week.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent two weeks double checking reviews on gaming laptops in this price range and this was definitely the winner for power to price ratio. Right out of the box this thing performed fantastically.... for one week. A few hours ago I hopped on it to get my nightly game session in and it randomly Black-screened and became unresponsive. Since then, I can now boot the computer and the keyboard lights up, but the screen will not boot. A quick google of the symptoms shows this to be a very common issue, but with no concrete fix that I’ve been able to come across. I’m seVerely disappointed in my experience with this laptop at this time and I recommend doing a quick search of Nitro V Black Screen issues before seriously contemplating a purchase.

Fortnite User
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price there are second thoughts on this purchase. For the most part I do enjoy playing Fortnite on this particular laptop. If you’re serious serious gamer though this probably isn’t the best choice. I have found that the CPU and GPU gets extremely hot when I play Fortnite which will cause it to crash every now and then. My other complaint is the ethernet port seems very flimsy when I try to direct connect to my router. I actually get better connection through Wi-Fi which isn’t the best option when playing games like Fortnite.

No Power
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really disappointed with this lap tops health. I have had it in for repours 3 times. All for the same reason, the power button will not turn the laptop on. And now it is happing again. Just don't understand why it can't be fixed, and the techs at best buy give no feed back! Frustrated with the lack of service.

Horrible battery life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned my nitro 5 for almost 1 year now and have to say it was the worst financial decision I could have ever made. I originally bought this laptop for gaming, streaming, and research but came to find out that this was not the product for me. The battery dies within 2 hours of game play and requires you to continuously plug in the charger throughout games, thus depleting the battery life even more as it is. Outside the battery problem there is nothing else impressive about this laptop. I also do not know why but Spotify opens up every time I start up this computer and I haven't downloaded it as an app... really doesn't make sense to me. Thought I'd write my review so nobody else wastes their time and money on such a cheap product. I am beyond disappointed in Acer and all of Acer products and since using this or any other acer product I realized they should do people a favor and just stick to monitors and mouse pads.

Dead Out of the Box - Round Two
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I decided to try another one of these Acer Nitro 5 laptops, since my last one only had 5 of the keys working. I was really hoping to have a good experience this time, Well, on this one, NO POWER!!! Laptop won't even try to start. Acer, are you even trying? Does quality control not exist in your realm? I suppose I'll receive the same response if I contact your "support" group. "Send it in to our depot for repair." Yes, because everyone should send in their brand new product for repair. I actually gave Acer a second chance and they still screwed it up. I will be informing my gaming friends to avoid Acer systems. They just don't seem to care......
