Akira is a landmark film. Its visual style is inspired and inspiring. Its also pretty disturbing.

Akira is truly a masterpiece when it comes to the quality of it's hand drawn artwork. Anime before the time of computers was all hand drawn. Akira is the finest example of hand drawn Anime. Despite Anime's predisposition towards stills, speed lines, and limited animation...Akira, much like Studio Ghibli movies, is well animated, detailed and vibrant. If you can appreciate an Anime for the amount of detail and effort that went into it, Akira is something you need to see. The Blu Ray edition makes it even crispier. The only way I feel it could get any better would be to own the original Laserdisc versions. The downside is, however, that if you have never read the manga, or been exposed to the series in some way, the story presented to you here will be muddled at best. You can certainly follow this story, but they leave a lot out. You never really find out who Akira really was. You see glimpses of him and his life, but they give no real reason why Tetsuo is so interested in finding him other than revenge. The manga fills in this missing information, so if you watch this...be sure to read the manga afterwards or at least read the Wiki article on it to fill in the missing info.

Definitely not a real steelbook, but will suffice to have it as part of my collection.

No anime/ movie collection is complete without Akira. If you have to ask "What's Akira?", you shouldn't be allowed to watch anime. This movie (along with Ghost in the Shell) is firmly cemented the industry outside of Japan. The picture is as good as Akira will ever be. it looks glorious. If you didn't pick it up when Pioneer distributed it 4 years ago, GET IT NOW!

I believe everyone should see this movie once even though it’s not a studio Ghibli film.

Dystopian cyberpunk anime set in 2019. So make time for it in the next few months.

This blu-ray of AKIRA was beyond my expectations; the picture quality was outstanding, as was the quality of the sound. The massive amount of work that went into every frame of this masterpiece is mind-boggling. This is Anime perfection. It's not exactly a happy, feel-good movie but it's an adventure that inspired countless other stories. If you haven't seen this, GET IT NOW. If you have seen it but not on blu-ray, GET IT NOW. Yes, I bought it on VHS and then again on the collector's edition DVD and it was worth every penny to purchase even again on this new high definition release.

Akira was something else. At first I had no idea what it was about and then in the end I still had no idea what it was about. The quality of the animation was over the top and fantastic at every scene. I will definitely be rewatching this for a second time. Basically it's a story about an unknown source of power with the ability to destroy the world with some people who are for it and some are opposed to it.

Great game and/or Movie at a great price. Fast pick-up and shipping as well.

This plays well on a DVD player, especially on a 4K UHD TV set.

If you're a fan of the movie then this is probably the best version of the movie ever!! Unless 8K comes out later down the road. The HDR isn't as noticeable as newer, more recent movies but it is better than the blu ray that came out about a decade ago. This doesn't have Atmos or DTSx. Just Dolby True HD.

An older anime film with some interesting animation and story.

This film is often referred to as the amongst the best animated movies ever made. I would agree with that assessment. The pre-scoring is extremely well done in both Japanese and English. If you are at all interested in the evolution of anime/manga, you should see this film.

Its not a full collectors edition but its worth having in the library for the remastered visuals. Fantastic film, its atill holds up and any anime or film buff for that matter would be remiss to have this absent from their collection.

This is the 5th time I've bought this movie. Bought it on VHS back in the early 90s, DVD twice, Blu-Ray and now in 4k. Every time I do this, it feels like watching it for the first time. Video quality is outstanding, sound is phenomenal, and the packaging is top notch.

I saw this movie when it opened in the US in the 80's. It made such an impression on me that I bought the poster from the theater, the only movie poster I've ever owned. This BD is an excellent copy of the original us dub that played in the theater when I was a kid, as well as a newer version with different actors and the original japanese version. Image and sound quality are excellent. If you want to own Akira, this is the version to buy.

This is a powerful film that easily hold up in any decade. The animation is gorgeous and amazing. This release has BOTH Dubs for the movie! I love this! So if you're a fan that grew up with the older Dub, it's here -- or if you prefer the newer Pioneer Dub, it's here too. I like both. Or of course you can watch in Japanese with Subs. This Blu release sounds great. If you have never seen Akira however -- just buy it. It really is a must own.

If your a fan this is a must have the 4k explodes immediatly i didnt think it was gonna show such a big difference the cleaness ans vibrancy of the colors of neo tokyo pop and the 5.1 surround sound has my speakers BOOMING. Also note the funimation has said you can order a HDR version of the disc once you show your receipt to them.

Giving the rating based on the movie itself but the item itself is flawed.the item showcases digital but there is no code included, after reaching out to funimation they stated that the labeling was a error and there is no code included. Also the 4k disk doesn’t contain hdr 10 so you will need to contact them for the replacement
