This movie is an anime classic. The 4k restoration is amazing and it looks even more sharp than the standard dvd or blu ray. Grab a copy, because you're in for a treat.

Despite being 30 years old, Akira is still what many anime films aspire to be. The animation quality and detail is astounding, especially for the time. The character development is fast, but strong, and the plot is so good that it heavily influenced all kinds of movies from the 90's and 2000's. Definitely check this out.

If you're an anime fan you gotta watch this. This film is a classic, a bit on the mature side but it's well worth the watch. There are many iconic scenes in the film where many make homage to. The story is a bit hectic to describe but it is not a waste of time to watch 13/10

If you’re looking to buy this set you already know about this legendary anime. So I’ll talk about this particular release. This is the first time Akira has been available in 4K in the US. Expectations from fans were high in regard to the content in this Limited Edition. When compared to the original Pioneer release on DVD, the extras fall short. Only one of the English dubs is included and the infamous Production Report documentary from 1988 is missing. Though it would’ve been nice to include these extras, it doesn’t really take away from the film itself, but… The one thing we all expected, especially since it was on 4K Blu-ray and even more so because the Japanese version had it was HDR and yet it was completely missing. This was flat out inexcusable, but Funimation has taken responsibility and will ship you the HDR version of the film if you email them. Unfortunately the set is also missing the digital version of the film which was also specified on the packaging, but according to Funimation it does not exist. A new version of this film on 4K Blu-ray is coming soon. Hopefully some of the shortcomings from this set will be resolved with that release.

I honestly haven't seen it yet on 4k. But, I seen Akira way back in the early 90's on VHS. And I was instantly hooked. So watching this in 4k I'm sure I will be pleased.

Bought this movie for one of my friends, because he said he really liked it. I ultimately wound up buying a second copy for myself a few months down the line. Phenomenal film.

One of the best anime movies ever! May be a little hard to follow with only one viewing but it’s visually stunning and the animation ages very well for how old it is. Easily a great anime to come back to often.

If you've never experienced the anime Akira, you're definitely missing out on an insanely wild ride. Not for young viewers, due to its violent content. It's definitely a great movie for those 18 years of age and older. Don't miss this awesome movie that's both gory and action-packed with an intelligent story.

I remember watching this as a teenager and absolutely fell in love with the art style, story , and atmosphere. I hadn't purchased akira in any format so when I came across it while browsing through best buy I just had to snatch it up. thank you best buy!!!! no seriously If you like anime you seriously need to give this movie a shot.

The quintessential film that put Anime on the map in America. This is a great transfer of the film, having previously owned the DVD I can easily say this is the best the film has ever looked.

Instant classic, can definitely see the inspiration a lot of modern movies take from this anime. Great animation, awesome music, and the 4k transfer aunt too bad on a more than 30 year old movie

If you haven't seen it, you don't know anime. This is one of the great defining moments in anime history. Even if you don't like it after you've seen it, you have to at least seen it. It is a rite of passage. Check any list of the top anime of all time, it's on the top 10. A great price for a remastered Blu-ray DVD combo with tons of extras.

The packaging for this release of Akira is amazing! The Blu Ray is beautiful, and the movie still lives up to the memories of when I first saw it years ago. This set includes both DVD and Blu Ray copies. The steel book is a great collectible, and this will make a great addition to your movie collection

When I bought it I hadn't seen the film yet. However I knew it was a very well made film. Therefore I was going to buy it anyway. Then I saw this beauty, a steel book case and embossed case too. Once I watched the film I knew I had spent my money well. Absolutely great. Go get this gem while you can!

Anyone interested in Japanese animation should watch Akira. This is one of the biggest classics anyone can or should watch. So many of the animations, and films we see nowadays have taken some type of inspiration from Akira. I was very glad when I saw this anniversary edition up for sale.

I'm not a huge anime guy, but I found myself always hearing about Akira, and never having a chance to have watched it. Well I finally got the chance and I am glad I did. There is something about the storytelling back in the 80's that didn't have the structural limits and cultural bindings that today's society has. You can watch this movie and just enjoy it for what it is. A GOOD movie. The blu-ray is great, with good picture and good sound. Very recommended. If you like Ninja Scroll, you will like this.

I have been a fan of Akira since the 90's and have rewatched it every time it's released on a new format. One of the best movies, anime or not, and now has it's best presentation thanks to 4k. The Movie set itself is also nice.

Nice package and great HD quality. No HDR on initial release but Funimation is offering a disc replacement program to solve that issue, so I'm happy. Looks great to these eyes even in standard 4K but nice that they're doing it.

Great film. Stands above just about any sci-fi film ever made with its revolutionary looking style. (With the exception of BLADE RUNNER which is the Greatest of All Time). Don't need to have read the comic books beforehand to thoroughly enjoy the film. (Nearly) 30 years old and still looks awesome

What can be said that hasn't been said already. I've first seen this as a teenager back in 87 when movies like this were rare and it still lives up to the best that anime has today and even better then some Hollywood movies. If you're new to anime and want to experience the golden age of it you can't go wrong with this film.
