Disc arrived with damaged cover case, as if a sale sticker had been torn off and the case itself was missing plastic. The disc appears unplayed, but the item seems used.

Alien" is one of the most intense Sci-Fi thrillers to have ever graced the silver screen or the home theater in any format! It is the film's intensity that provides such an incredible draw to this extraordinary film. If you're looking for a lot of action, this film is not really what you're looking for; "Aliens" is where the intensity and action comes into play in the line of Alien movies; the whole theme behind "Alien" is to scare to pants off of you with extremely intense scenes and if you've never seen this movie before, it may very well do just that! Never before in the history of this genre had there been a film of this magnitude and few have matched it in it's intensity since. Now, with this latest release, fans of "Alien" are treated to the best release of this film yet. The very first thing you'll notice when you put this DVD into your player is that you have the option of playing either the 1979 Theatrical Release or a 2003 Director's Cut. The 2003 Director's Cut is preceded by an interesting introduction by Ridley Scott himself. This cut is put together seamlessly and the additions to the film add just that much more flavor to the film,

In Space, this movie can make you scream

This is one of the best. A superb blending of the sci-fi and horror genres. A mining crew finds a derilict alien ship and unwittingly brings a parasitic alien onboard thier ship. All of the characters are very well-developed. The crew acts more like everyday people than astronauts, which is one thing that sets Alien apart from other sci-fi films. The Alien itself is one of moviedom's most amazing creation. The Alien looks like something from out of a nightmare. The Alien does not look at all like a man in a suit, but like something inhuman. A truly frightening creation. All of the visual effects are outstanding and still hold up today. Alien focuses on suspense rather than shock, and it is one of the most gripping movies ever made. The battle against an unknown enemy creates a scary, life and death struggle. The susoense does not let up. Alien is not a gruesomely violent movie, but it does warrant its 'R' rating. For horror and suspense in outer space, Alien is the best around by far.

    DVD vs. Blu-Ray

This is a review of "Alien (Blu-ray Disc) (Anniversary Edition) (Director's Cut)" -- as opposed to any of the other versions out there. I think most people have already seen this classic sci-fi thriller, and many will have already purchased the DVD at some point in the last 35 years, as I did, so the purpose of this review is just to say that the upgrade from DVD to the Alien Blu-ray Anniversary Edition is worthwhile for the increase in picture clarity and brightness, as well as the uncompressed audio track. Although this is sold as the "Director's Cut," the original theatrical version is also included, and is considered by the director to be the preferred version. Bundled in the package is the Alien Illustrated Story comic book and some art cards. There's also a redemption code to download Alien in digital HD, which is good until Dec. 31, 2017. I would recommend this for Alien fans who don't already have it in high definition, and I would definitely recommend Alien for any science fiction fan who hasn't seen it.

    the perfect sci-fi/horror hybrid

Although this film was primarily influenced from the 1950's film It: The Terror From Beyond Space, Alien has rightly become a classic in its own right. The crew of a cargo ship finds their return trip to Earth (during which they were in suspended animation) interrupted when their ship's computer (called "Mother") intercepts a transmission from an uncharted planet. As per standard procedure, they set down on said world and, following a mishap involving one of the officers (played by John Hurt), resume their course toward Earth only to realize that the ill-fated officer carried back with him the title creature, which proceeds to wreck havoc on the other six members of the crew. This film deservedly made a star of Sigourney Weaver, who plays one of the officers who desperately looks for a way to outmaneuver the horrific monster. The other actors are solid as well, as, like Weaver, they portray characters who are very believable and human. The film also put Sir Ridley Scott on the map, and rightly so.

Excellent Classic Horror Sci-Fi Film and Blu-Ray

    Posted .

In spite of dating from 1979, Alien (singular; the plural "Aliens" is its excellent 1986 sequel) remains consistently listed near the top of every all-time "scariest" or "most frightening" films. Continuing to be an effective shocker (for those seeing it the first time) is an achievement given the state of the art for special effects when the film was made. Blu-ray transfer is excellent given the film's age, especially the type and fidelity of cinema audio recording in that era. A "must see" for those into the "horror" genre, and especially its "sci-fi" sub-genre. The plot holds interest, characters are reasonably developed, the pacing is good, and a few unexpected twists and turns regarding some of the characters occur in the latter part of the film.

From VHS to Laserdisc to DVD to Blu-Ray... and now to 4K UHD. Alien is one of those movies that is so great, it justifies double- and triple-dips and beyond as each new media format emerges. Very rewatchable, and the uptick in resolution and dynamic range on this latest release dials up the tension, excitement, and atmosphere beyond probably even the best early theatrical runs of fresh film prints in 1979! Outstanding.

"I like to think, that if there is intelligent life besides us humans out there in the universe, that it's not something like what we see in this movie. A superb sci-fi thriller, 'Alien' is worth a watch, but is so horrific and uncomfortable, it's actually hard to walk away from the picture feeling good or enlightened in any way. Followed by a superior sequel. Widescreen, ample bonus material." Would you recommend this product to a friend?: Yes
