I cannot get over how incredible this 4K transfer looks. It is not just the best quality I've seen since I saw it in the theater in 1979, but the extra resolution exposes details I totally forgot were there, like a long shot of the exploring party where their tiny helmet lights were visible - I do NOT remember seeing those on my Alien Legacy DVD version. Of course, like any Ridley Scott film, it's gorgeous. If you are a fan of this film, you will LOVE this transfer!

I have been a big fan of the alien series for decades. It deff looks better then the blu ray. But its not ground breaking.

Excellent 4K transfer. I finished watching Alien Director's Cut a couple weeks ago on my Sony '49 900F and it was amazing. Ridley did such a great job with the set design and preferring practical effects for the film that it has aged amazingly well. There's no jarring blur or CG in this film, and I highly recommend grabbing this edition as it comes with both the Theatrical and the Director's Cut (preferred version). 5/5

Now THIS is how the movie needs to be seen by any fan, or first time viewers! With the increase in contrast and detail, plus the addition of HDR, this is an absolutely incredible looking movie! I've seen this on every format you can imagine, and I've never seen it look this good. You'll notice details that you've never been able to see before. Recommend to any fan of the film.

I doubt I have enough time to write something worthy of this movie. I first saw Alien in the theater and after sitting through the movie TWICE on opening night, I was so freaked out I open the door of my car and shined the flashlight around the interior to make sure there were no facehuggers hiding! Every actor delivers in the movie and Scott's decision to hide from most of the cast the secret of the 'chest burster' scene got FANTASTIC and realistic first take scares from those unknowing in the cast.. A perfect sci-fi and or horror movie. Alfred Hitchcock in space!

Thought the picture quality could’ve been better but the movie was the start of many more alien movies.

Alien is a horror classic that influenced the way we look at science fiction films and it is one to own and add to your movie collection. On Blu-Ray, the movie holds up because in this transfer, the image quality is more immersive from the vast and grimy interior views of the Nostromo ship to the gothic, shadowing and foreboding shots of the crashed Space Jockey ship with twisted art design by H.R. Giger. The sound is impactful to convey suspense and surprising scares with atmospheric touches whether on the Nostromo Ship or on the dark planet. The UV copy still works to download so definitely go buy it!!!

Phenomenal 4K picture hdr specular highlights well done, a must own for videophiles to have this classic

This 40th Anniversary 4K UHD release of Alien is sourced from a 4K scan supervised by director Ridley Scott and colorist Stephen Nakamura and is an upgrade over previous release. I would know since I've purchased this movie in VHS, DVD, LaserDisc and Blu-ray. This is THE classic horror sc-fi film. Comes with 1080p blu-ray disc and digital code with two versions of the movie, the 1979 theatrical cut and Scott's 2003 extended director's cut.

This is the third time I have bought this movie - DVD, Blu-Ray, and now 4K. It looks better and better every time. I noticed some visual artifacts in some of the darker scenes, but I am way pickier than most people when it comes to that kind of thing - I can't help but look for them. If you're not that kind of person, you won't notice them, so I can't knock off a star for that.

Looks great on new 4K TV. We enjoyed rewatching it again as clear as it was in the theaters.

Beautiful 35mm film transfer of the Theatrical version with HDR+ color grading really brings the film to life on 4k. In addition to the 5.1 home theater audio mix, this even includes the original 4.1 mix in uncompressed DTS-HD. It's refreshing to be able to experience the original theater experience exactly as I remember it at the theater so many years ago.

Not gonna lie--I bought this when BB put it on sale for $5 since the movie cash that came with it was good for $7.50. The best thing is you don't even have to open the movie to get the cash anymore. I already own this version on blu-ray so I'm just selling it on ebay. Anyway it's a great movie, and the director's cut is interesting (though not really better than the theatrical cut) . Certainly worth owning if you don't already, definitely worth it if you know you're going to catch the new Alien in the theater's and want to see it at a discount...

One of the best sci-fi horror movies out there. The 4k and steelbook make it that much better.

An absolute must own and one of the best films of all time. There is little to no debate about that, and nothing I can write here can do it justice, and far more well versed people have done so. The 4K transfer is gorgeous, and going forward, this is the only way to "properly" watch this film. All lights off, 4K setup, surround sound/headphones, and nothing to distract you. A nearly perfect film.

Great transfer to 4k hdr gave it a 4 star cause i wish it was available in Dolby atmos audio

Don't need to review the movie. It's a classic and one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. You already love it or you don't. But visually the 4k is absolutely worth it. It looks STUNNING. It's incredible how sharp and clear every thing. The colors and constrast are amazing as well. Can't say how it compares to the blu-ray but if you don't already own it, for sure get the 4k.

A classic must have movie for sci-fi collectors. Took a while for it to make it to 4K.
