Customers are saying
Customers enjoy the high performance and impressive graphics capabilities of this 17.3" gaming laptop, praising its fast boot times and solid build quality. However, some customers note that the laptop's weight and heat generation are significant drawbacks, along with less-than-stellar battery life and noticeable fan noise during intensive use. The large screen size is a plus for many, but the bulkiness impacts portability.

Great laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay so I am rating this laptop not the customer support of Alienware which sucks I just call and tell them what I need at this point because it seems I know more than they do and fix their mistakes half the time sadly and I am still waiting on my reply from a email I sent them about 2 weeks ago So into the actual review pros color durability it’s extremely fast it honestly does not get as hot as other laptops which is a plus you have to remember it’s going to get warm due to the fact of how much power your pushing threw it Cons this thing is so heavy I feel like I am trying to carry around a small child lol also I wish the display was a bit brighter i guess I got used to my desktop display

Smoking fast without severe overheating...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Besides being a beautiful beast, it is also a somewhat cooler beast according to forums...I hear about thermals in the 70's, CPU and GPU. After running it for at least six hours, I noticed some warming up while doing some DSP work on it and watching some you-tube. I have not used it extensively for gaming. I'm mainly using it as my audio processing desktop replacer and mixing, production and editing machine. It will also be used for video editing from my modulars synths channel. I like the form factor better than the lighter MSI in almost the same class. MSI just looked a bit flimsy, cork on the bottom ?! The MSI screen a bit bendable, something I'm afraid I might break, but not the Alienware which is built like a tank. I like the color scheme changer, the rear fed power adapter jack, but not the lack of a gradual fade-in/fade-out factor, unless I'm missing something. The lack of an SD Card is simply unacceptable in my opinion! I have an USB SD Card hub, but still an Dell oversight...What were thy thinking ? An extra USB 3.0 port or two would have made this even better. I love the keyboard and the crisp, almost glare proof display. Time will tell how the heavy construction build will play out. So far so good. It is gorgeous and flashing like TRON or X-mas Tree which ever you happen to prefer, yet still a bit warm after long periods of time moving towards the key-bed area where you might sense some gradual warmth, which is probably not something preferable for some users. It's a hit and miss loving it completely. I have a feeling the thermals will go up during an intensive game with overclocking turned on from the control center. I love it so far, its too new to give it 100% pure time-tested opinion, but it is what it is. A beast not to be reckoned with albeit an warmer beast than the competition...I still find it acceptable!

Hands Down Top of the Market Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had many laptops in my time including from Asus Rogs to MSI Apaches. But this one definitely has came dressed to impress. I was iffy to go with a Alienware as I never wanted to support the endeavor but I was convinced by a friend to go down the rabbit home and I wont look back. Pros- Beautiful Display for being 60Hz. The tones are amazing and the G-Sync just makes everything pop. Sound is absolutely stunning and better than any laptop I have ever heard. Hands down beautiful when gaming or listening to music Design - Is flawless, its beautiful, seamless, and the keyboard feel is truly something to try out. The weight fo the laptop gets comfortable and its SOOOOOOOO quiet even when playing heavy games like Wolfenstien and Shadows of War. Cons- The battery life is still not on par with where batteries should be today but thats comes on course with the system being so powerful. If you are looking for a great laptop that is powerful, faster than most laptops on the marketl, and gets the job done on every aspect of life whether it be gaming or web design, this is the best laptop you will find and you have always wanted.

Love this computer!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super fast, loads in no time, great graphics and screen resolution. I'm very happy with this laptop so far! The lights and Alienware settings really make this machine unique. It's a very large laptop, so I wouldn't recommend for travelers, but great desktop replacement and one of the best processors you can get on the market today in a laptop. The only negatives I have about this PC is that I had to order an external CD burner since it didn't have one, and for the size, it should... Alienware isn't trying to keep this machine thin or light. Also, this laptop should have 2 or 3 HDMI ports to easily hookup external monitors, but it just has 1 (like most laptops) so I had to order a couple adapters, and a USB 3.0 hub to hook everything up, but was easy to setup and everything is working great with multiple displays, and all my external components. I would definitely recommend this machine.

Great Machine Solid Quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall a good solid machine Long story short I went through a month of trying to purchase Alienware machines that turned out were either defective or not running correctly . Whether it was due to broken hardware or bloatware programs these machines didn't work properly and each one had its problems directly out of the box . This machine was the one I started off with when I went to purchase a new laptop . It had and still has a defective ether net port in back of machine . You put plug in plug doesn't come out . Originally I bought my machine open box , after not liking the fact that ether net port was broke I returned it figuring this is why it was open box. Week goes by I'm ready to try again this time I buy a new version of this laptop. Straight out of the box the ethernet port is broke again .. Well I said how the heck does that happen twice . I speak with one of the local dell reps at my store and low and behold he says to me " well that wire isn't meant to be taken in and out " ..Ok then , a laptop which is ment to be mobile your not supposed to remove the ethernet wire once its plugged in .. I return it Story goes sideways here from that point .. 2 AW AURORA R8 i7 2080S desktops BOTH ONE AFTER THE OTHER out of the box .. CPU fans spinning 100% all the time . That's not right . Geek squad support for hour 2 people cant understand anything , both tell me this is correct for your cpu fans to run 100 % as he jumps on pc to do "optimization " . Sure it is .. Ive already done the research mind you while this process is going on. But yeah an optimization is going to fix the problem ( sarcastic) Alrighty , next up an R8 AW AURURA i5 2070 .. Stuttering like a pro whilst running Black desert and or Final Fantasy 14 . I mean there's a " gaming machine .. Stuttering . Any who there's no comparing i5 to i7 hyper threading . But that's another story Lastly I give up , all with in my 30 day elite time to mess with these machines I try one more. The new M17 - 17 - 2070 .. 3 pounds light weight . Lets call it a notebook cause its not a laptop , but yea sweet little ride yet it runs hot as heck . like 80 90s under load all the time . how long do you think that going to last . Either the thermal paste on these machines are crap or some sort of program needs to be installed where you can undervolt the machine safely . Not happy with any of these I come full circle to this machine in review .. Its solid , it has proper air flow , intel rapid storage works properly , support assist actually updated properly , alienware updates actually do thier job and for the most part under load it runs flawlessly with the confidence your getting proper air flow through machine not having to worry about temps too much . The style of the machine is sleek and it just fells like quality . I could care less about alien fx and light but it does add a nice effect to it . It still has a broke ether net port but i bypassed that an ether net usb adapter , gave me more hubs and speeds are right on point. This out of all the machines listed in this review feels and responds the most solidly To end this spam of a review and sort of disappointment with alienware , i have to say between Patchogue and Bayshore , Geek squad dudes are pretty good people and bend over backwards . Geek squad technical phone support is a joke though . I may as well burned the 200 bucks for a year support Unless something major happens . Regardless if at this point anybody thinks i took advantage of getting what i wanted i still delt with 4 out of 6 machines that were defective in some way with nobody able to answer to the problems . Its lucky for me best buy has a return policy as such .Overall just wiped on the whole experience . Never in all my 20 years of computing have i had such issues with store bought machines . Hoping this machine goes the distance without any further issues and would either recommend this model particularly or if your tired of it all next step would be an msi happy gaming

Amazing laptop.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Build quality is stellar, performance is fast and noise levels are very quiet. This is a great gaming lapotop, replacing my 2 year old MSI GT72 6RE that died. The display DOES HAVE G-SYNC. It doesn't list it but trust me, it is a g-sync enabled display panel. Ignore dumb comments from people who don't own it. This laptop DOES have G-Sync 100%.

Great Gaming Laptop !!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially I was somewhat reluctant about getting the Alienware 17 R5 vs getting its predecessor the R4, but reckoned after all that the upgraded specs ( incl. now GSYNC etc) are worth paying the higher pricel ( Still Got item pricematched and saved another 270.00$ of 1899.99 !) It is a gaming powerhouse, no doubt. I am impressed with how well it is built, how well it performs when playing games or doing other tasks and how relatively subtle the fan noise emission is. Even under load it is never overbearing or annoying as with other gaming laptops ( hissing or loud fan noise !). Thanks to the Nvidia GTX 1070 with its 8Gb VRAM and Vapor cooling , and the I7 8th Gen Proc, this machine can render all your games at max settings, while staying cool without breaking into a sweat. Overall I would recommend this item to anyone who is looking for a stylish (minimalist) looking yet sturdy built gaming laptop that acts also as a desktop replacement.

Awesome Laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Took about 3hrs getting everything updated and moving settings! Only had 1 issue the windows 10 wasn't active and I had to trouble shoot it to get it working right! Also had to look into default setting on the hard drives so I could change the default install drive to the 1tb instead of the 256ssd drive! No dead pixels or over heating issues at all!!! Played warframe for 4hrs straight on max settings and it barely got over 60! The screen is 100% confirmed Gsync!!!

Great products but pricey.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although it pooped on me after a week of using I know 2 other people who have the same laptop are are happy with it. It is overpriced as there are other products that will give you the same specs for a few hundred dollars less. You are paying for premium build quality. There is a lot more aluminum and carbon mix involved that makes it more durable and helps with components cooling. If you really want more bang for your dollar then just go with desktop solution. Performance differently makes a big difference between laptops & desktops size GPU & CPU.

Great Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have been using this without any troubles for the last several weeks and haven't found any game that this does not run very well. Great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this towards the end of 2018. It games great. All new games work magnificent. I’m able to customize my experience very easy. The extended service and warranty are very expensive. I would like the option even just to have service. It’s just very hard to say here’s $800+ dollars for me to have direct customer service and limited warranty. I think spending the money you spend should at least give you direct customer service and the ability to utilize the Alienware optimization tool without this extra purchase. Also the quality of the plug was very cheap. The wires became exposed and the plastic cracked very quickly around the unit that plugs into the laptop.

It’s great but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works great, very powerful, plays everything nicely After the Alienware updates though I lost all control over fan speed, later lost all upload connectivity. Later it boot looped and corrupted windows. Now I’m restoring it to factory and I have to start over. About 18 days into owning it. Hopefully this is not a common problem.

You may also want to consider updating the BIOS on your computer to help with the fan noise if it continues: Update the BIOS: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Amazing performance, Perfectly built!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is very good laptop for gaming and CAD softwares. If you decide to buy it, be sure to update EVERYTHING! before using it. EVERYTHING! otherwise you might encounter big troubles, mine had a sudden shutdown while gaming and wouldn't start. I then updated the BIOS and some other drivers from Support Assist and now it's running fine.
