Essential Weapon In Your Gaming Hardware Arsenal
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to get my hands on the Alienware AW2518H 25” GSync monitor. It arrives packaged nicely with the monitor nested very securely inside. Assembly is literally a snap with the monitor simply snapping onto the high quality metal base. Included is an hdmi cable and a USB 3.0 upstream cable. Connect both and install the monitor drivers and you're up and running. The AW2518H has 2 hdmi ports, 1 display port, 1 headphone jack, and 4 USB ports. I really like having these additional USB ports and love the convenience of their location. The monitor stand is well constructed and surprisingly all metal. The monitor is highly adjustable on this base. You can easily adjust the height as well as tilt or swivel the monitor to your liking. The monitor is super sleek looking with nearly no bezel except for on the bottom edge. Unlike the FreeSync version of monitor this GSync monitor has some cool Alienware FX LED lighting on the back panel. Not really visible while in use but it does cast a nice glow behind the monitor. The AW2518H has a multitude of settings which can be configured to your desires. The onscreen display is accessible by the control panel controls along the lower right bottom of the display. Here you can easily change the standard settings for color, saturation, brightness, contrast, etc. There are also presets that can be selected by game type of fps, rts, or rpg. You can additionally create your own preset based on your own image preferences. I found the on screen display and controls much easier to use than other monitors I've owned. Much less confusing. I do like the setting for fps which shows an overlay display over your game of your current game fps. Very cool feature. Lets talk performance. This monitor is intended for use with an Nvidia video card in order to support GSync. With GSync enabled and while connected via display port this monitor can dynamically adjust its refresh rate to match the frame rate rendered by your video card. Please note that GSync does not work via HDMI. The fact is this is a gaming monitor. One that massively improves your gaming performance through its ultrafast 1ms response time and it's incredible 240hz refresh rate. These two specs in combination with GSync totally eliminated the horrible effects of blurring, ghosting, and texture tearing which I experienced using other monitors. I was in the midst of replaying Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare when I switched monitors to this Alienware AW2518H. What an immediate and amazing transformation. Gone are the all the artifacts that detract from your gameplay. What good is it to have a top notch video card if you can't clearly see the images it produces? With the AW2518H now you see crisp clear fluid imagery but this isn't all about pretty images it's about effectively kicking butt at games. All these amazing specs let you see your opponent clearer and faster than before and likely sooner than your opponent sees you. Resulting ultimately in better gaming and more frags! The Alienware AW2518H is yet another weapon in your gaming hardware arsenal. This Nvidia GSync monitor has a premium price but is well worth it if you're serious about your gaming

High-end monitor delivers in performance and looks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're running a gaming rig with one or two high-end N-Vidia graphics cards, this monitor is the perfect match. It can handle the speeds of any first person shooter or role playing game. The price is a little on the high end, so it's mainly targeted towards the professional gamer or someone who is looking for the extra edge in game play. NOTE: This model is best paired with a system running an N-Vidia Graphics card. It features N-Vidia's G-Sync technology, which syncs both the display and graphics card for the fastest and smoothest refresh rate possible. If you have an AMD Radeon graphics card, you'll want to look at the AW2518HF model by Alienware. It supports AMD's FreeSync technology for producing native refresh rates. Unlike the AMD version, this model does have the built-in LED lighting on the back panel of the monitor. Even though it's mainly for aesthetics, it completes the look of a matching system with Alienware's LED Pro gamer keyboard and mouse. Being a Twisted Nematic (TN) panel, the refresh rate and pixel response times are exceptional. You lose a little in wide-angle viewing, but since a gamer is usually sitting right in front of their monitor, this won't be a major issue. Even though a Vertical Alignment (VA) monitor offers the best colors, and an In-Plain Switching (IPS) monitor offers better viewing angels, TN panels are best for gaming. I wasn't able to test this monitor while being paired with an N-Vidia graphics card that supports N-Vidia's G-Sync technology. This meant that the refresh rate was being controlled by the monitor's processor, rather than natively by the graphics card, but I really didn't notice poor performance at any level. I didn't notice any blurred images, flicker, tearing, or any other motion artifacts. It's probably a product of its high refresh rate (240Hz) and 1 millisecond response rate. The monitor is loaded with external ports for various audio, video, and USB connections. And the stand is very stylish. Also, the bezel is incredibly thin, meaning this monitor would make an excellent dual screen or triple screen setup. Overall, this monitor is meant for the serious gamer. If performance is more important than price, than you really can't find a better gaming monitor on the market right now.

Not worth the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I paid over 500 for this monitor, so of course I have high expectation. The graphic for the games are really good. Everything seems clear, but when I’m surfing the web that’s when the headache starts. Every time I would scroll up or down there’s this shadowy thing showing. It’s like I’m seeming double. After having to see that for a few minutes it gives me a headache. You think that after spending 500 on it the monitor wouldn’t have any flaw. I don’t know if I just got a bad monitor or the monitor is like that.

Great color for TN, buttery smooth, +build qual.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I was gaming on an LG 4k monitor and never really got caught up in the high refresh rate fad.... until now. Holy cow. When I started gaming at 4k I thought I'd never look back.... that is again until now. For first person shooters or games with lots of moving transitions, refresh rate is definitely the better choice over sheer detailed resolution; this was hard for me to swallow at first. I never realized how much my inputs were delayed during first person shooters running 4k @ 60Hz. I tried playing on the 4k monitor after spending time with this Alienware and it felt choppy (at 60 FPS/Hz... running a 1080TI), mushy and nowhere near as responsive. My only concern now is I wish this were a 2k monitor. I tried the 27" Dell gaming monitor and it was grainy looking and had a banding and chain linking effect when scrolling, reading text, etc. The colors also looked washed out (include the 24" 2k versions) on the 24/27" Dells. The alienware (yes, I know, manf. by Dell) while being a lower resolution that what was in store definitely looked much nicer in terms of color reproduction and overall clarity. Also worth mentioning is the stand/monitor's build quality are excellent utilizing metal and plastic. Fit and finish are superior. There are lighting effects on the back I disabled and could care less about. No dead or stuck pixels either... a HUGE pet peeve of mine. There was slight light bleed in the bottom left corner, but being a TN panel it's hardly noticeable.... again, another pet peeve of mine, but I'll live with it considering it has to be looked for and cannot be seen head on while gaming. While not 2k, it's still a winner in my book. I'm looking forward to future monitors running 4k at 144Hz+ For now, this 1080p @ 240hz will do.

White Screen...
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set the monitor up right out of the box (very easy) and it only had a white screen. Called Best Buy and Dell/Alienware and they walked me through the diagnostics. No diagnosis was possible because the white screen was the only thing visible and they are setting me up with a replacement. However I may go with a different monitor because of the issues.

Speeds are great, colors not
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have enjoyed the speeds from 144hz to 240hz but have found it too difficult to change color settings. The original settings seem a bit greyed out. I had high expectations for this monitor, especially for the price, but will most likely be returning it.

Design Perfection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon first seeing this monitor the design is truly astonishing. This is one of greatest aspects of Alienware products, in my opinion, is that they are some of the most aesthetically pleasing products. You can definitely tell that they are not cheaply made and are of the utmost quality. Visual satisfaction is not the only facet though as functionality is clearly evident as well especially when noticing the minimal bezels, which is great when using a multiple monitor setup. As far as performance this monitor was great for fast paced shooters. I put multiple hours of counter-strike and overwatch through this monitor and there was no lag or ghosting at all. This is definitely one of the most fluid monitors I`ve ever used that is for sure and definitely is useful when playing those competitive shooters. The only downfall I can see with this monitor is that it is only 1080p and thus when it comes to more visually appealing single player games you may not fully reap the full visual benefits of the games. However, this monitor is targeted more towards those competitive esports players to whom will definitely not be disappointed.
