It seems that the 34" ultra-wide curved monitor is a very popular configuration for a great general purpose monitor these days. Everyone is cranking one out but most can not compete with the latest from Dell's Alienware division. Where this one shines is the high resolution and refresh rate. Connected to a capable graphics card the 3440x1440 resolution packs a lot of pixels per inch and connected via Displayport you get a blistering 165Hz refresh rate (100Hz with a HDMI cable). Running AAA games I experienced to ghosting or artifacts. Not only is the monitor great for gaming but also general use. I deal with large spreadsheets and the ultra-wide format gives me additional real estate so I don't have to horizontally scroll for most of my files. Packaging was better than most I've seen. Curved screens require a bit more care with the packaging and the box inserts, screen covering and foam did a great job of protecting the screen, and the whole monitor for that matter. Setup was a breeze. The desktop pedistal snapped to the back of the monitor. I used the included Displayport cable connecting to my nVidia RTX4080FE video card. I did go to the Dell support page for the monitor and downloaded the firmware update and hardware drivers. Initially Windows 11 recognized it as a generic monitor however installing the downloaded drivers Windows recognized it as an Alienware AW3423DWF providing a bit more fine tuning. Power button is on the right hand bottom of the monitor. There is a center bottom joystick to be able to get into the native menu and make adjustments on the fly. I always enable Freesync (or G-sync for that version of the monitor) to help reduce any display tearing but honestly with 165Hz I never really see any noticable difference. The OLED screen with HDR cranks out vibrant colors. It usually takes some tweaking for me to get the colors right on other monitors with HDR but I had no such issues with the Alienware. Out of the box it preformed amazingly. For the ports you get 2 Displayport and 1 HDMI input. Dell supplies not only a Displayport cable but also a USB C to Displayport cable if your video out supports video over USB C. There is a USB port to connect to your computer so you can use the monitor as a USB hub (4 USB-A out ports) and allows for easy firmware updates. I've been running a couple of AAA games and I really love the performance, crisp and bright picture. This is a great addition to my gaming setup. Price point is around the $110o mark so a bit on the high end. If performance and picture quality are important to you then it's easy to justify the price tag.

This computer monitor us great. The picture quality is wonderful and it is a terrific monitor for gaming. I wish it had a remote instead of the little joystick on the bottom but it isn't hard to use, just a little inconvenient compared to a remote. Also, this monitor was no speakers if you need them, which I didn't. Considering I got it for $709.00 is was a very good value.

Let’s get this out of the way up front, this is a fantastic monitor. If you’ve never used an OLED display before, and even if you have, the difference between this and LCD is just stunning. I have more to say about performance later, but yeah, just amazing. You get quite a bit in the box. A trio of cables (DP, USB-C to DP, and USB) allow you to connect your monitor to your pc. If you need or want to use HDMI for some reason, you should be using DP for the best possible experience, you’ll need to supply that yourself. You also get a power supply cable, of course. Then there’s stand. I love the design of the Alienware stands, the V shape footprint takes up less space on your desktop while allowing you to stash odds and ends below your monitor. There’s panel itself which is surprisingly heavier than I expected. I don’t have a ton to say about this here, it looks good. It’s black. It has “gamer” lights on the back which I’ve disabled because … well I generally look at the front of my monitor so I have no use for these. And lastly there’s a little cable shroud thing to tidy up the look after you’ve connected the everything up to the monitor. This got immediately got tossed in the closet. Assembly is super easy. Just slot the stand into the back of the monitor, it just clicks into place and is held securely. You can disconnect it with the push of a button which is convenient, but don’t worry it’s very secure. Then secure the base to the stand with a built in thumb screw. That’s it. You’re done. Quick note though, because of the size of the monitor (it’s wide, ULTRA wide!) and the location of the inputs you may want to plug in all of your cables and route through the stand before you set it in place. It definitely makes it easier than fiddling around and craning your neck trying to see inputs when it’s already in place. Speaking of those cables, I really love the cable routing design in the stand. They run straight through the stem and can terminate at the front or the back for monitor as needed. I have two usb cables coming out the front for my keyboard (for switching between pcs) and everything else out of the back for connecting to the PCs. Very nice design. The stand has height and pitch adjustment, as well as adjusting side to side which is very nice if you need to get at some cables after you’ve completed setup. I’m actually shocked at how low this thing will go, which is really nice for me as I can just push the monitor to its lowest position to access my PC back panel. It’s a minor thing, but it’s incredibly convenient to have this range of adjustment. Well done. Out of the box the monitor looks good as is, but there are some settings you’ll want to change in windows to get the best experience. First things first, change the refresh rate. For some reason windows defaults to 60hz no matter what the display says it’s capable of, so you’ll have to manually set it to 165hz. You’ll also want to enable freesync/gsync - and where you find that option depends on what kind of GPU you’re running. After that it’s time to dig into windows display settings to enable HDR. There’s also a setting for auto-HDR for games that don’t natively support it, but you’ll have to decide if that experience is good enough for you. I don’t personally think it looks great, but I do prefer it to the native SDR look. Optionally you can download the windows HDR calibration tool from the MS store to get display tuned specifically to yourself. It’s worth the 5 minutes or so it takes to download and run. Then there’s the displays built-in settings … there are a lot A small joystick underneath the monitor allows you to navigate the setting. While this is more convenient that dedicated buttons, I still don’t like it. You can grab the dell display manager software to change some of the settings, this is what the usb cable is for, but not everything is available. There’s a lot here honestly, but the mode I’m using is the HDR 1000 peak brightness mode. This is mode is where HDR truly shines, you get the most contrast when running this option, but it’s not perfect. There’s a well noted problem with HDR 100 mode that dell has yet to fix with a firmware update. For some reason brightness and contrast don’t independently adjust themselves, meaning when you enable HDR 1000 everything will get brighter. Dark areas will lighten incorrectly, while bright areas will properly hit peak brightness levels. You can mitigate this by making the following changes Set console mode to ON Set source tone map to ON Set contrast to about 64 These are the settings I’ve found from searching around online, and they work perfectly for me. Unfortunately this will only fix the problem in this mode if you’re running an Nvidia GPU. If you’re using an AMD GPU changing source tone mapping doesn’t do anything because that setting is already handled internally by the AMD drivers. It sucks for AMD GPU owners because you will not get the same stunning results as an NVIDIA GPU owner will … and it’s the same display. Fortunately a firmware update CAN fix this, but who knows when or if Dell will get around to addressing this problem. So unboxed, fully set up, settings customized, how does it perform in game? Again one word comes to mind, stunning. The world of Night City with all of it’s glowing neon and dark shadows come alive in a way that just can’t be achieved on an LCD display. Control, which recently received native HDR support thanks to a user-installable patch from one of the devs, is absolutely gorgeous. It was always a good looking game, but seeing it run on this display is jaw-dropping. The same is true for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Marvel’s Miles Morales Spiderman, Portal RTX, and literally every game I’ve run on it. Even games without HDR support appear fresh and new on this thing. There’s no ghosting, very low input latency, and the overall image quality cannot be beat. Day to day use in productivity the monitor shines as well. I love the extra real estate afforded by the ultrawide aspect ratio. I’d had an ultrawide in the past, but moved up to a more standard 16:9 34 inch monitor to make things easier on the eyes. You may want to tone down the whites or select a different profile outside of games because the contrast is so high, whites are just so darn bright on this thing. But yeah no issues here. Are there any cons to this display? I know I’ve been pretty much raving about how great it is, but surely there must be some negatives. Yeah there. It’s a curved display which some people will just hate. It’s something that I personally like as I like having the screen occupy some of my peripheral vision while gaming, but others will hate it. Same with the glossy screen. The screen is highly reflective, which is something that I love as it allows better contrast and vibrancy compared to matte screens. But again that will vary person to person. As previously mentioned the HDR 1000 mode, the most HDR-est of modes, doesn’t run properly and it’s up to the user to do some research to mitigate its shortcomings. And even then only NVIDIA GPU users can fix it. This needs to be addressed by DELL internally, the sooner the better. Then there’s updating the monitor itself. You’ll need to connect the included USB cable to do so, but you’ll also have to disconnect all but one device from the display. This is annoying as I have this connected to both my desktop and laptop. After assembly this monitor is unwieldy because of it’s size and shape. Getting behind it can be tricky especially if you have a cluttered desk (guilty) or tight work space. So that’s annoying. I also don’t like that all of the settings for this display aren’t available in the dell display manager. The joystick is fine for navigating the menu, but there are so many options and my monitor is sat well back from the front of the desk so I have to stretch across that distance to change a setting. The last thing I would say is that this is an OLED panel, and that means that it’s susceptible to burn-in. That’s not a design flaw, that’s just the sad reality of where display tech is at right now. Luckily Dell has built in a pixel and panel saver mode that will run after every 4 hours of use, but it’ll popup a display warning telling you to run it. This can happen at any time, in the middle of a game, in the middle of a meeting. You’ll have to use the joystick to dismiss it, but luckily you can disable the popup in the settings. BUT you have to leave your monitor powered on. After you power down your pc and it’s ready to run the pixel refresh or whatever it’s called, you have to keep your monitor on in “standby” mode. When in standby mode the LED is white, when doing it’s pixel protection thing it’s green. It happens automatically and doesn’t take too long, but it’s something you’ll have to think about if you’ve never used an OLED before. There are a few steps you can take to help mitigate burn-in on your own. Use a black background, set the taskbar to auto-hide, enable a screen saver if you’re going to step away for any period of time. Do this and things should be fine. I say “should be” because it’s very hard to test for burn-in, especially in the week or so that I’ve been using this. Burn-in can take thousands of hours to manifest and once it’s there, it’s there. So overall, this is an outstanding monitor. The performance is just unbeatable across a wide range of use cases. It’s great for gaming, great for productivity, great for watching movies. I’ve been using it for long gaming sessions over the past week or so, as well as watching HDR movies (not something I usually do at my desk) and I’m just constantly blown away by its performance. I would recommend this to anyone out there in the market for an ultrawide OLED display … as long as you have an NVIDIA GPU. That’s the one thing that really keeps this from being perfect.

This is a fantastic monitor! Especially at the current promotional price. I've been in pursuit of a faster experience than the 48" LG C1 I've been using as my primary monitor could offer. Downgrading from 4k to 3440 x 1440 was a concern initially but the higher PPI of the DWF did provide a comparable sharpness to the C1, although I could tell there was a slight reduction in "Detail" vs 4k. However, the performance gains from switching to a lower resolution output more than made up for the difference. Regarding color and brightness: at first I was not that impressed, coming from a C1 or newer is a tough act to follow after all. I researched what others were saying are best settings and found that combining those (HDR True Black 400 and 75% contrast) along with making some tweaks in the Nvidia Control Panel, (upping the brightness to 60, but lowering the individual red to 55, as the DWF's output seemed a little warm for my preference, upping the contrast to and color vibrancy slider to 65) produced an output that most closely matched that of the C1. Running the Windows HDR calibration application was also needed to help find the right balance I was looking for. With color and brightness to my liking, now I could focus on the remainder of the experience. 21:9 Ultrawide compatibility has become much more common in current games and the subtle 1800R curve fits the 34" footprint nicely. The unit's build quality is solid with the exception of some "squishiness" at the edges of the panel that I felt while adjusting the swivel axis. Overall performance of the monitor is top notch! OLED is on a whole other level when it comes to responsiveness and "feel" while gaming. The DWF tops out at 165Hz though, and I found my system was able to push well beyond that cap leaving me wanting for a 240hz option. While still within my return window the LG45GR95QE-B received a substantial promotional discount as well so I went ahead and picked up one of those for comparison. It was a really difficult decision as to which monitor I felt was a better fit for me. I preferred the color and brightness of the QD-OLED panel on DWF, and the promotional price made an extremely compelling argument. The LG has a much lower PPI at the same 3440 x 1440 resolution, which is unfortunate, but the higher FPS ceiling and immersion factor of the 45" 800R LG panel is what ultimately won me over. Without the aggressive promo on the LG however, I think the DWF would have been what I kept. In summation, if your system is not going to surpass 165Hz, there is absolutely no reason to look further. This really is a fantastic straight forward monitor that is 100% deserving of the praise it's received. Best in class pricing, user firmware updateability, strong performance, and the longest manufacture's warranty on the market!

the good: - picture quality - Wow wow wow! Coming from other widescreen/high refresh rate monitors, there simply is no comparison. The blacks are incredible of course, as expected in an OLED. Black areas of screen, whether in games, movies, or simply a desktop background, they actually look like the screen is off. “Inky” just doesn’t begin to describe it. In addition you have amazing depth of color and plenty of brightness when viewing HDR content. The picture quality punches way outside its price range, and even more so when you consider the high refresh rate and low latency. To put it simply, for gaming it’s one of the best screens I’ve ever seen. As a daily driver (specifically displaying text) I would characterize it as good, but not great. It’s a 1440 panel after all, and because of its pixel layout (triangular instead of square) the text doesn’t read super crisp. That’s not to say that text looks bad on it, but a pixel layout comprised of a square pattern will read a little bit sharper. I have been using it as my daily driver for both work and gaming and I can wholeheartedly say that while I don’t feel like I’m losing anything for business use cases, I’m gaining so much from the gaming experience on it. Gaming and entertainment on it is nothing short of incredible. - relatively understated design - Alienware can be a bit futuristic looking for my taste. This monitor is relatively understated, with a small-ish Alien head LED on the back left, as well as the number “34” on the back right. Color controls for these two and the power button are configurable in the menu. - quiet cooling - This version of the Samsung produced panel does contain a fan, but not one I’ve actually been able to hear yet. - configuration/controls - Nicely laid out in the on-board menu, easy to navigate and customize for shortcuts. - input ports - 2 displayport 1.4 ports, 1 hdmi 2.0 port. - USB hub - 5 total USB ports (4 type A and 1 type B “upstream” port) - 3 year warranty (including OLED burn in) - This may be the single most important feature outside of the picture quality. Since OLED’s are known to suffer from potential burn in, the peace of mind of 3 protection from it is a welcome offering here. To my knowledge, this is quite uncommon. the bad: - HDMI version 2.0, not 2.1 - Full bandwidth 2.1 would’ve been nice to see here. misc: - AMD FreeSync, no Nvidia G-Sync - This actually goes both ways, both good and bad…and the bad isn’t really so bad in my opinion. The ‘bad” news here is that without the G-Sync license (which of course costs a premium and that cost gets passed on to the consumer), you don’t get certain Nvidia claims like “lifelike HDR”, “optimized latency” and “factory calibrated accurate SDR and HDR”. In my experience, not only is this monitor super lifelike and color accurate, at these refresh rates and low latency numbers, the difference between Freesync and G-Sync is not just minimal, it’s invisible. I’m running this display on an Nvidia 3080ti and it looks amazing, certainly no tearing or any other artifacts. Oh, and by skipping out on the G-Sync licensing, you gain the ability to upgrade onboard firmware (G-Sync models can upgrade firmware as well, but *only* by taking the monitor physically into a licensed repair center. overall: Outstanding in almost every way, this monitor is a slam dunk in my opinion. Fantastic picture quality, high refresh rate and low latency, and oh-so-inky blacks…like is this screen on blacks. It’s not perfect, but it’s not far from it enough to dock it a star. If I could I’d probably give it 4.75 stars, but since we’re limited by the rating system, 5 stars it is.

Pretty much one of the best monitors on the planet. It's smooth, looks great, and is really well built. For $800, it's great. I wouldn't say 21:9 gaming is inherently better than 16:9, but it does look nice. Maybe it'll be one of those things you don't realize you need until you go back to trying 16:9? Use this if you want to browse, play games, create, and multitask in the best way humans are capable with no bezel getting in the way. The curve is perfectly subtle, and the stand is VERY solid. HDR in Windows is great, and makes "creative work" look great. It's not a "creator monitor", but it's very close to one. Don't buy this if you are on a budget - a VA or IPS monitor can do much of the same for a lower price. It just won't be as gorgeous, but it'll be close. Cons: 1. Pressing control+y will cause stupid popups by default, so change that. 2. It'll bug you to refresh the panel every 4 hours. 3. The firmware's font looks absolutely HORRIBLE when going through menus, for some odd reason. Not sure why they didn't change it to something less chunky, but it doesn't matter. 4. On rare occasion, the entire picture will shift up/down/over by 1px, which can feel disorienting. It's to preserve panel health, though.

I came from a massive 40" monitor... looking for OLED. Shopped LG, Samsung, ASUS... decided I couldn't shop based on specs. Drove the 40 minutes, walked into Best Buy, and stared at every monitor they had. This one hit the sweet spot of EVERYTHING I wanted -- including a few things I didn't know I wanted until I saw it myself. The best part? It's pretty color accurate. So it pairs well with my ProArt monitors for editing. Anyways, blah blah blah just buy it.

The OLED hype is real. Everyone says once you go OLED you'll never go back... seems to be true. Makes my previous monitors looks sad. Has a 3 year burn in warranty, so hopefully I'll be good to go for the long run.

awesome monitor, only downside is mild text clarity reduction but it is not noticible for me and i use it just as much for productivity as i do media.
