Customers commend the m15 R4 laptop's high performance, powerful GPU ideal for gaming and 3D modeling, and sharp, high refresh rate screen. Positive feedback also highlights the keyboard quality and sleek design. However, some users point to significant drawbacks regarding battery life, overheating issues, and loud fan noise. Computer performs well. I use it for graphic design. The fans are like jet engines and keep the processor nice and cool during complex vector work. SSD died after 7 months, had to do a full reinstall. Thankfully I keep my data backed up on external drive. But SSDs do that. I'd buy it again.

This laptop has been fantastic. I am able to work on it during the day and play just about every game I want in the evening. The startup speed is amazing to me especially coming from an older laptop and also beats my built gaming rig. The only downside I would give this unit is the heat management. When you are jamming away the fans struggle to keep up and the unit gets HOT. I wish Alienware had designed the fans a bit differently to handle this better.

Seems great, although the keyboard stopped working so I had to do a factory reset and connect a external keyboard. Then I had to shut off a setting in the alien control ware. Then 20minutes later it was working... Other than that great picture, great response, and it can handle the games at high levels.

The laptop is blazing fast, and the screen is pretty nice. I was able to run games like, just cause 4 maxed out, zombie army 4 maxed out, gta 5 almost maxed out. I know gaming laptops always have poor battery life, but the 45 minutes or so, even just surfing the internet, is a bit ridiculous.

Pulling this laptop out of the bag I noticed the weight is heavy and the build quality is excellent. The power brick is the heaviest I've ever seen. The thing is huge. When I popped it open the matte screen looked great and rgb keyboard and tasteful additions of more rgb lighting on the rear are a tasteful touch to an already rad laptop. The keyboard feels good when typing. Very responsive. The performance when put to the test is exceptional. I never experienced any issue playing games on highest settings. This thing boasts the 10th Gen Intel processor, RTX 3070, a 300Hz Display, and a 512GB SSD. I also use the laptop to edit photos with zero issues. Super smooth and zero issues. I will say the fan turns on quite a bit to try and cool down this beast. Not a huge deal to me, but it was definitely noticeable. Battery life is so so, but I keep my gaming laptops in a place where they're consistently plugged in. All in all this Alienware m15 is an incredible machine. It's got power, great specs and looks great. I would absolutely recommend it if you're in the market for a gaming laptop.

Alienware - m15 R4 - 15.6" FHD Gaming laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - Nvidia RTX3070 - 512GB Solid State Drive – Dark Side of the Moon I’ve found the Alienware m15 R4 to be a beautiful and powerful laptop! Mine sets on the right side of my desk where I also have an external 25” 1080p HP gaming monitor in the center of my desk with a 32” 2560x1440 (QHD) Samsung monitor on the left side of my desk. This setup provides me with 3 screens to do my office work, so that’s a fair amount of screen real estate to display documents and application windows! I have the HP gaming monitor hooked up through the HDMI port on the back of the Alienware m15 R4 and the Samsung monitor hooked up through the DP (DisplayPort) port on the back also. Both ports are powered by the Nvidia RTX3070 graphics card (GPU), which is in the upper tier of GPU’s and has 8GB of onboard RAM. The Alienware m15 R4 15.6” 1080p internal display runs at 300Hz max. On the back of the laptop base, the Alienware m15 R4 offers the power port to charge the laptop (using the included 240W brick), a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2/Thunderbolt 3.0 port, the HDMI 2.1 port, the mini DisplayPort 1.4, and an Alienware Graphics Amplifier Port where you can plug in a separately purchased external Alienware Graphics Amplifier. This item will allow you to install any monster desktop GPU of choice in the Amplifier to increase your graphics capability to whatever level your wallet will tolerate! On the sides of the Alienware m15 R4, you’ll find one MicroMedia card reader, two USB-A 3.2 ports, one Killer RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port (Wi-Fi 6), lock slot, one USB-A 3.2 with PowerShare so you can charge your other devices from it or run other peripherals from it that require more power than the ordinary USB power trickle, and a 3.5 Headphone jack (7.1 digital out). You can run monitors and every other peripheral device just from the USB-C port alone if you use a USB dock/hub with it (recommend a high-speed USB-C type dock/hub or just a Thunderbolt dock/hub that has all the other port types built into the dock). I’ve been playing Fallout 4 on Ultra settings and Horizon: Zero Dawn on all Ultra settings, and this little beauty has not hiccuped even once, while still powering all three (3) monitors and whatever I may have running on the other two (2) screens. Play is smooth and flawless. Framerates for F4 are well over 100 FPS on the 144Hz HP gaming monitor and are an average of 95 to 100 FPS on Horizon: Zero Dawn. I haven’t played anything just using the laptop screen, but I expect any game would run faster, but that’s just a guess at this point. So, if you’re not a gamer, how does this equate for you? Well, it will run any intensive graphics activity (video/photo editing, CAD applications, Photoshop, VR, you name it). My office use doesn’t require these higher graphics capabilities, but my gaming does, so the Alienware m15 R4 is a beast for all these uses. Keep in mind that gaming laptops are running impressive hardware and increased cooling capacity, so they weigh more than general laptops. The Alienware m15 R4 weighs in at 5.5 lbs., yet it sports a thin bezel IPS 1080p matte screen (I personally prefer a matte screen as they are less reflective than standard screens) with an HD webcam and dual microphones built in. The whole laptop is only 0.78” thick. Its design is very attractive without the boxy look to include the “Tron” light track around the back plate of the base and the lighted Alien head trademark on the lid. It has a magnesium case with a high-quality finish that does resist smudges and fingerprints. It has a very comfortable keyboard backlit with blue light, which is adjustable from no backlighting to two selections of brightness when on. Of course, you can change colors of the RGB lighting in the onboard software at any time. It has stereo speakers that are better than many other laptops I’ve been around. The Alienware m15 R4 has a 10th generation Intel Core i7-10870H (45W), 8 core processor with 16 threads. It can handle up to 32GB of system RAM, but this model comes with 16GB (2933 megahertz). It also has a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD) that offers excellent read/write speeds (Toshiba makes it). It provides three SSD slots that are user serviceable (two M.2 2280 SSD’s up to 2TB each and one M.2 2230 up to 512GB). You can also set up a RAID 0 or RAID 1 arrangement if you install a second SSD. I have another matching SSD on order to add it to the existing one and will set it up in a RAID 0 configuration. This means that my Alienware m15 R4 will read the two drives as though they were one drive. In my case, it will show a 1TB SSD, and my read/write speeds will nearly double the impressive read/write speed of the one SSD in my laptop now! The other slot can be filled with another, smaller SSD, but it will show as a separate drive, in case you simply want an additional 512GB for onboard storage. In addition to the aforementioned Nvidia RTX3070 GPU, it also has an integrated Intel UHD graphics chip on the motherboard. At this writing, I’m not sure when it runs the UHD as opposed to the RTX3070, and I’m also not sure whether it switches automatically or if it’s by a manual switch in the software someplace. The Alienware m15 R4 will power up its cooling fans, particularly when gaming, but even then, mine doesn’t run non-stop as some do. It will occasionally spin up the fans when I’m not gaming depending on what I’m doing, but that isn’t very often or for very long. When the fans spin up, you can hear them, but I don’t find that distracting as some people do. Compared to some other gaming laptops, the m15 R4 is on the quieter side based upon my experience. While I haven’t tested this, the m15 R4’s battery (non-gaming use) will reportedly run about 4 hours on just battery power. Yes, there are plenty of other laptops out there that will run double that or more, but not running the kind of hardware this one boasts. Gamers, you can calibrate your games, game settings, hardware etc. for your specific games through the provided Alienware Command Center software as well as adjust color lighting, cooling profiles and many other options. There are options for the m15 R4, such as 32GB RAM, Invidia RTX3080 GPU, 4K 60 Hz screen etc., but those are only available if you order yours from Dell/Alienware online. Of course, there is the m17 (17”) as well, if you need something bigger. This is the first Alienware computer I’ve owned, and I am very impressed with the attractive appearance, build quality and performance. My experience so far has been one of an enhanced desktop experience and a flawless gaming experience. For me, the laptop configuration works much better than a tower desktop configuration since there’s nothing beneath my desk to kick when moving my legs, and the m15 R4 provides a 3rd screen, which is really nice, not to mention the portability if I want to take the m15 R4 with me. If you want an upper end, high quality laptop where you can run most any Windows software and/or game to your heart’s content, the Alienware m15 R4 is calling to you.
