Nice easy to read display. 240hz refresh rate really is better on eyes. It runs most of my games at 100fps or higher. The built in fans are not intrusively loud but you can hear them speed up which sounds like a quiet blower fan. There is a problem with the built in Alienware Command Center. Once exiting the game it won't revert keyboard lights back to default. Dell is looking into it. The A03 sound driver is faulty causing intermittent dropouts of sound requiring a reboot each time. rolled back to A02 which then it seemed to work normal. These are software issues and not really anything Best Buy can help with. Only the OOB hardware. 5 stars for performance and quality. Some give 4/5 for heating but I have had many laptops that get warm to the touch. It's just a fact of life with powerful laptops. If your laptop isn't warm while working, then it's not very powerful in comparison. This laptop has 2 GPU's. one is Intel Arc with 128MB VRAM the other is Nvidia RTX 4070 with 8GB dedicated VRAM. The cpu is a Intel Core Ultra 7 155H with 16 cores 22 logical processors. This cpu is more than adequate for X-Plane 12 because this flight simulator is cpu load intensive. GPU isn't used as hard, Same goes for Elite Dangerous. Racing games like Assetto Corsa work really well with a high 100+ FPS. Crisp and clear graphics. This game is what the 240hz refresh rate comes in handy. If you are used to 60hz refrsh rate then 240hz is going to take a week or so for your eyes to adjust. You may feel some slight headache but that goes away.

Jack of all Trades
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had this laptop for a little over two years, and I’ve used it in lots of different scenarios. I can’t possibly overstate my love for this computer. Even 2 years later, it still handles new games, and although you’re not gonna be playing with path tracing or anything crazy like that, even on the recommended settings of most games (medium-high) they still look perfectly fine, and more importantly to me, run very smooth. Most of the time when I’m using this laptop, I’m gaming, but pretty often as well I’m using it for work. As you can imagine, most laptops that are geared towards gaming have no issues dealing with bloated powerpoints, spreadsheets, etc but what makes a big difference is the ability to switch to stealth mode to cut down on fan noise and give the laptop a much more understated and “workplace appropriate appearance”, in environments where that is necessary, like a front desk for example. This laptop is also very portable and rugged where it counts. I’ve taken it on many flights, work trips, and stuffed it in too many different bags to count but it still looks fresh out of the packaging. Overall, if you’re looking for a portable, powerful gaming laptop that can also serve as a conservative productivity laptop for work or whatever other situation you need, I couldn’t recommend this laptop enough. I paid $1500 for it in 2024, and I’m sure it might be cheaper now, but even for the price I paid I’d happily say I’ve gotten my money’s worth and then some.

Disappointed overall.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying I have always wanted an Alienware computer. This one came along and it was filled with all the bells and whistles at a good pride. When the optimalize button is turned on , the fans are extremely loud. In non-optimalization mode it gets very hot and I am not gaming or watching videos. Just checking emails and shopping so I had to buy a fan lap pad for underneath. About once a day my mouse arrow freezes and I have to reboot my computer. Still trying to fix this. Have seen fixes online that I am going to try. Overall it is a fast computer with great graphics but looks like a basic laptop. Not as neat as I thought it was going to be.

A good machine, a bit overpriced.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was on a work trip and had to buy a Windows machine for Windows specific applications, and figured I could use it for gaming while on the road as well. I have mixed feelings about the machine. On one hand, the built in keyboard is nice and the display is.. decent. I would hope given that Alienware is pushing their desktop monitors to be OLED, the same would be true here - it is not. There were multiple OLED displays in the store that looked significantly more striking than this one. I will say, the full size keyboard+arrow keys is nice - the keyboard feels satisfying to type on and use. Gaming performance is decent for a laptop of it's size. Most games it can handle pretty well at native resolution, but for newer games that support DLSS4 it performs very well. The only downside here - this thing is LOUD. When the performance mode kicks in, you can pretty much hear it over everything else in the room. Very annoying. The ports on the machine are great, but I would expect that for a machine of it's size. The RGB on the keyboard also looks very good, even though it's strangely.. not in sync. The keyboard and the trackpad have different settings and I have been unable to sync them up perfectly, one is faster than the other. If the machine cost about $400-500 less, it would be a much better buy.

Posted .Hey Malik,
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your review. We are sorry you are experiencing fan noise with your Alienware m16 R2 Gaming Laptop. Feedback like yours helps continue to grow and do better. We recommend using the TCC Offset Controller to control the thermal temperature of your system that can help reduce fan noise. We have provided the steps below and the link to the video that can help guide you thru the process.
Using the TCC Offset Controller:
1. Controller is located in BIOS under CPU Management.
2. User can set TCC Offset value between 0 and 15
3. TCC Offset 0 = 100C Max CPU Temp
4. TCC Offset 15 = 85C Max CPU Temp
5. This feature, when available, impacts all USTT profiles.
6. This means that if the user were to change the value, it would be applied to Balanced, Cool, Quiet, and Performance Modes.

Very good laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using my Alienware laptop for several months now, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The build quality is top-notch—sleek, futuristic design with durable materials that feel premium. What really stands out, though, is the performance. Whether it’s AAA gaming titles, video editing, or multitasking, the system handles everything smoothly without overheating or lag. The display is vibrant and crisp, making gameplay immersive, and the customizable RGB lighting adds a fun personal touch. I also appreciate the thoughtful software, like Alienware Command Center, which gives me full control over performance and cooling profiles. Yes, it’s a bit pricier than some competitors, but you get what you pay for—power, reliability, and a brand that understands gamers. Highly recommend for serious gamers or power users who want both aesthetics and top-tier specs.

First gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first gaming pc or laptop so i cant really compare to other PCs. So far it has been working very well with performance being honestly better than i expected. Nvidias software could be better and more user friendly but i cant fault the device for that. Same goes for windows 11 and microsoft. I plan to upgrade the ram which alienware definitely made an easy task compared to other laptops i have seen in reviews and tutorials. Overall i would certainly recommend it if you are in the market for a gaming laptop. It is an especially good deal if you get it on sale like i did. The chassis feels solid but i do wish it had more metal because i hate anything plastic on a device. The fit and finish is good but i wouldnt call it excellent. I also wish it had a camera cover but thats just me and a piece of tape does the job just as well.

Great laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Open-box and it works great have had no problems since I bought it sound level on the fans is good and if it really needs high fan speed can get kinda loud but nothing a pair of headphones or earbuds won’t fix… with battery saver modes and efficiency modes active I can almost get 4 hours of battery life with is great for a laptop of this power… normal power modes I get 2-3 hours off a full charge… I use this way more than my desktop

Good Laptop, Worth the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had it for around a month and a half now, It actually runs really great the fans are a bit loud but I just put on my headphones and I can't hear a thing, it doesn't get hot or anything, maybe a bit warm but I can run a lot of different games such as ARK Survival on basically Max Settings. I really like the computer and I will probably just be upgrading the ram and SSD eventually.

Geat Gaming/Possible Good4 Engineering Student
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Outstanding build quality...fully upgraded it to 64GB and 3TB by simply removing the bottom skin. Works like a champ gaming...consistently getting 250+Fps on all games at full quality. I wish the screen were just a smidge brighter...say 400 Nits instead of 300 Nits...but I play on an external Alienware monitor that is 450Nits...so eggh. I get a full 3hr 15 min on battery...just browser with 10-12 tabs and Excel, Word open....so if anyone needs an affordable Engineering student type laptop...this will run any/all Autocad and decent note taking for lecture so long as you have no more than 3 back to back classes.

Good job, Alienware.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for two months now. Here is the bottom line...if you buy this for gaming, you must know that there will be drawbacks. The laptop runs hot, the fans can be loud when spinning fast, and if you are not plugged in, the battery will be trash. That is understood. Here are the positives: the 240 Hz screen is so good. Even doing normal things will look better. The keyboard and trackpad are actually better than I thought. You can certainly use this for work. Of course it's a workhorse with that processer, so you'll be good there. Speaking of battery, if you do have to be unplugged, put it in energy save mode, and it will give you a good 4 - 5 hours of life. Probably good enough for a solid day of light work. Overall, it's a great machine. It looks good, has plenty of ports, doesn't attract finger prints and, of course, plays games well. The power brick is also smaller that I thought it would be. You will not be disappointed.

Frankly, a good refresh
|Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.[Employee of bestbuy] Considering this laptop? Chances are you've perused reviews and discussions on platforms like Reddit or YouTube. Let's delve into the pros and cons, and why I prefer this over its alternatives. Pros: Smooth Gaming Experience: Despite not sporting a 4080/4090, the performance remains beyond reasonable. I managed to play CP77 at a constant 90fps with ray-tracing, a feat my desktop 3080 Ti can't achieve due to its incapability with the new DLSS architecture. Remarkably, this mobile GPU accomplishes this with half the power consumption. Sleek Design: Unlike many 16-inch gaming laptops with bulky profiles, this model strikes a happy medium resembling an older XPS, without the big thermal hump on the back. Upgradable Memory: It ships with a 2x8GB SK Hynix kit instead of a soldered 1x16GB, facilitating easy upgrades to 32GB memory for an additional $100. It supports up to 2x32GB 5600MT/s, unlike some competitors that hinder future upgrades by soldering on memory. Accessible NVMe Slots: Installing a secondary drive took less than 5 minutes, and it supports up to 8TB of total onboard storage. Convenient IO: The 240w barrel on the back conserves desk space, while side-mounted SD and USB A ports provide easy access. While having one USB-C port on the side would have been preferable, the Thunderbolt 4 DP and USB 3.2 with DP serve specific purposes. Multi-OS Support: Dell directly supports Windows 10, 11, and Ubuntu through their support site. US-based Company: Dell's US base and historically transparent privacy policies make it a trustworthy option compared to competitors like Legion, known for issues like Superfish adware. Cool Keyboard and Palm Rest: The matte surface remains relatively cool even under heavy concurrent CPU and GPU loads. Cons: Loud Fan Noise: The laptop can get very loud, especially in Performance Mode, reaching 55-60dB from 1 meter away. However, this can be mitigated with closed-back headphones. Limited Memory: It comes with only 16GB of memory, so factor in the cost of a new memory kit when comparing prices. Display Brightness: With only 300 nits, the display falls short of what should have featured 400 nits, though it remains easy to use at 70-80% brightness. Potential for Improved Processor: Similar models in this price range may feature 9-series processors. However, the performance and thermals of the Intel Ultra 9 chipsets for this model remain untested, and historically, i9 chips tend to throttle, potentially leading to better performance from the i7. In conclusion, I bought this laptop with the intention to upgrade the memory and SSD, and I'm not disappointed. I will update this review as time goes on.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this laptop! I wish the display could go brighter, however, it’s very fast and I love the RGB keyboard and alien logo on the back of the laptop, also very customizable with the alien command centre! The laptop is a little heavy, but if you’re not taking it on the go, it’s perfect!

High performer, but comes at a cost. A few Cons
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very expensive gaming laptop. It has good performance, but when it’s running full tilt, the fans are quite loud. One other issue I have is there are only two USB-A ports and I use a few more peripherals than that, so I plugged a USB hub into one of the ports. Even with the USB power management settings adjusted, the power to the USB ports (the one with the hub as well as the one without the hub) cycles power periodically and I lose my mouse and keyboard for a few seconds. Clearly, as a gaming laptop that is not a good thing. The screen is plenty bright with excellent clarity and resolution is good. Love the 240hz capability, even if it only gets up there on lower demanding games (epsorts).

||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Alienware m16 R2 is a gaming powerhouse that delivers exceptional performance and stunning visuals. Its 240Hz QHD+ display is a visual treat, and the powerful hardware effortlessly handles demanding games and creative tasks. However, the battery life could be better for longer gaming sessions. Avg 4070 laptop with great build quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Build quality : the build quality is very good the hinge , keyboard etc everything is top notch Screen : i would say 7/10 good but not very bright and it has okayish color gamut Game performance : gaming is good but be prepared for frame drops once it gets really hot, the thermals are well engineered but it has limitations of a laptop Overall : At 1300$ this was a solid buy, i wont spend more than that on a 4070 laptop. If you are looking for decent laptop with good game performance but can make compromises with screen go for it.

Review from the hard to please customer.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried ACER HELIOS and Lenovo LOQ and the Alienware performed the best. I didn't want an XBOX to play Starfield so I picked this ALIENWARE. The fans are loud in performance mode but it keeps the laptop cool when gaming. It's a little heavy to carry all day but its manageable. I don't like fact that it lacks a touch screen but I manage. I'm going to upgrade the RAM to its max capacity and that's it. Wish the price was a little better but I'm satisfied overall. Thank You to the staff at Best Buy for dealing with my picky decisions when buying products as well. lol
