Never worked. Installed software and then died. Best buy wasn’t able to do anything.

Faulty Uab ports was also informed that they had multiple open boxes of this model which leads me to assume it was probably just a faulty model

e like most people who were kids when Alienware computers came out and gained popularity, I have wanted one since Saw this little baddie on a good sale and pulled the trigger, man am i happy I did. This thing is nice, everything looks and feels premium. I have used other laptops for work, I just got my girl a new MacBook Air and its nice and all but I LOVE this Alienware. The finish feels so good, its like a super smooth matte, or a really fine powder coat. I took this beauty out of the box and instantly fell in love. It is a heavy laptop, but the weight makes me feel like its more premium, especially considering how compact it is. I immediately got all the updates out of the way and downloaded steam. This computer is everything i ever wanted in a laptop. I was afraid the 1080p resolution would leave a lot to be desired but it looks fantastic, sure I like anyone would prefer OLED but this looks great and i have no complaints or regrets. Plus with this being linited to 1080p i really dont have to worry about not being able to play any games as this has more than enough horsepower to push even new stuff at the peasent resolution.

I would return this right now its an absolute horrible model and cant hold up to my work it needs.

Play games at good quality and frame rate. Battery dies very quick tho

I normally build my own desktop computers, primarily for gaming and do not normally look for portable solutions to fill that need. I am also strictly a PC gamer and have been so since the days of Sierra Online and MicroProse. With that said, I have a passion for PC gaming and have always tried to keep my rigs up to date with the latest hardware I can afford. My most recent build has an X570 motherboard and an AMD R9 5900X, Nvidia RTX 2080S, 64GB DDR4-3200 RAM, 2x2TB M.2 SSDs, 2x2TB SATA SSDs and 2x6TB SATA mechanical “black” drives. This Alienware M17 R5 had a lot to live up to, to be “my go to” for gaming. This laptop comes with an AMD R9 6900HX (8 core/16 thread) CPU that can be toggled between High Performance, which boosts the fan speeds and a normal mode for everyday use. It also comes with an Nvidia RTX 3070TI 8GB laptop version, 16GB DDR5 RAM and a 1TB M.2 PCI-E 4.0 SSD as well as a 17.3” FHD (1920x1080) display with a 360Hz refresh rate. I have played a few YouTube videos shot @ 60 FPS and they played incredibly smooth on this display, almost looking live and not artificial looking. I have also thrown a lot of demanding games at it, such as MSFS 2020 @ with the details setting to extreme and ran a test flight for about 20 minutes. It was buttery smooth when rotating the camera around and every other aspect of the game. I have also played RDR2 with the detail settings maxed out, also running exceptionally smooth, no stuttering or lag, no matter what was happening in the game. To up the ante on what this Alienware is capable of, I connected it to my recent 4k TV with an HDMI 2.1 port and bumped the display resolution to 4k @ 120Hz, launched RDR2 and while the framerate took a bit of a dive, it was entirely playable, still smooth motion throughout the game. It can run any games currently in my digital libraries, not just most of them. The weight clocks in around 7lbs or so plus the 240W power brick to power/charge it. So, it is a little heavier than I am used to carrying around in a laptop case, but the specs on this laptop are not lost on me. I appreciate the standoffs on the bottom of the laptop, so it does not sit flush on a flat surface. I also appreciate the heat exhausted out of the back of the Alienware, instead of the more common sides or bottom, so no hot lap or needing a tray to buffer the heat exhaust with this computer. At the time of this review, the display supports Dolby Vision, but under certain conditions (like playing a local encoded file, not streaming). This can be demonstrated under the Windows Store app called “Dolby Access” or downloading TV demos encoded in Dolby Vision. The picture quality on this laptop is still great, and with a 17.3” display, I do not have to use scaling to make the text readable without squinting at its default resolution. The display does not support HDR, but should support it without issue when connected to a capable monitor or TV with proper HDR support via HDMI. The keyboard is easy to use and while the keys are low profile, they still have enough travel to them make gaming a pleasant experience. Overall, the M17 R5 is a more than adequate portable gaming rig, benchmarking about only 10% slower than my self-built gaming desktop. I would happily take this anywhere to use for gaming in addition to typical use. I would personally add an external mouse and/or a gamepad for more precise gaming. I love it!

I switched over to gaming laptops about 10 years ago -- I got the behemoth of a laptop at the time and used it for years. Then I kind of drifted back to desktops for gaming because laptop performance just wasn't keeping up with the games' requirements. Fast forward to 2021 and I had the chance to get a really nice and compact gaming laptop -- it had the "same" components as desktop machines, but in a small 14" screen package. I found myself using it more and more, connected to a nice monitor for gaming, and I retired my other personal computers. I love the portability, but if it's replacing all my other computers, it just didn't have enough screen area for office tasks, photo editing, etc. Then there's this monster. It's a beautiful machine with great specs. Even better, there's some room for it to grow; it came with a 1tb drive and an empty drive slot. I right away got a 2nd drive so I don't have to worry about my space-hungry games. The empty drive slot even comes with a heatsink! That's super nice. It's great at games. It loads the games and cuts pretty fast, the screen is bright and colorful, and the battery life is really good! I was gaming for four hours or so unplugged without any problems, but I didn't run the batteries down to empty. Yes, the fans really do kick in after gaming for a while, but the sound isn't annoying, it's kind of like white-noise. If I have the game sound up, or if I'm wearing headphones, the sound isn't an issue at all. The speakers are impressive for a laptop. The sound is really good, especially at moderate volumes. The volume keys are easy to get to along the right edge of the keyboard, so you don't have to hunt over your F keys to find them. The keyboard is comfortable and responsive to me. I'm mildly bummed that there's no number pad, but the overall elegance and ease of typing really make up for it. It would be a bit nicer if the secondary functions on the keys were also illuminated. The downsides aren't that terrible, but good to know. This laptop doesn't seem to know "thunderbolt" at all. I have a slick RGB thunderbolt dock, and the laptop doesn't recognize it at all. Nothing. No charging, no USB pass-through, nothing. I swapped in a USB C dock, and it works great except no power delivery from the dock. So when I dock it, I also plug in the power cable. I like how it has the power connector and 2 of the USB connectors in the back -- it makes an elegant package. There's 1 usb-c 1 usb A on the back, and two more usb A on the right side. I wish there were at least one more usb-c port. The finish on the lid seems a little soft. Mine is already scratched up pretty good just from sitting upside-down on the table when I added the 2nd SSD. At least it isn't pristine anymore, so I feel better about plastering the lid with stickers! Overall, this is a great laptop.

Nice graphic and quality on video games everything works perfectly ño complains

Great gaming computer. Graphics are great and the look is amazing. The only negative point is that the computer overheat when you play and charge the computer at the same time. You definitely need a laptop cooling fan to control and keep the laptop cool while playing. It’s a $35-40 fix that will preserve the integrity of your system.

The presentation of this laptop is phenomenal! When I first started opening it, I almost didn't want to put it out the box because of how great it looked! I really love the quick and easy setup, and a beautiful colors all around the laptop. It's like a work of art to me. Plus, this definitely doesn't feel like any cheap thrown together laptop either. I really like the nice and heavy feel of it, so to me, that feels to be quality made. I also love that while I'm using the laptop, where I have my wrist on the laptop feels really comfortable. The only problem is, it gets a lot of fingerprints on it, so you may have to wipe it down quite frequently. I know this game top is for gaming, but I would have really liked the number pad for regular use. The picture of this laptop is gorgeous and literally second to none, but a 4K picture option would also be great. I also love the alien head power button that lets you know when the laptop is plugged up or not, or if it's getting power, you can tell by the color of the alien head what's going on. When playing back for blood and loving the picture and graphics. I really have fun with this, and recommend it to everyone that's looking for a laptop for gaming on the go.

The Alienware M17 R2 is the most powerful all AMD laptop you can find at the momen. Personally, I like to have an advantage over other players in competitive shooters, and this laptop provides me the advantage I need.

Good solid rig. Even though the monitor is not 4k. 360Hz works just fine @ 1080p.

Great, fast computer. Only the fan is a bit loud, but it's understandable with all the power under the hood.
