Customers are delighted by the impressive performance and graphics capabilities of the m18 R2 18" 165Hz Gaming Laptop, frequently praising its large screen size ideal for gaming and work. However, some users noted the laptop's considerable weight and relatively short battery life as drawbacks. The large screen, while appreciated by many, also necessitates a larger carrying case.

The laptop includes an i9 processor which is known to have hardware issues and crashes games- I didn't know or learn of this until after buying; laptop was in fact a dud. Grateful at least for the full refund!
Otherwise a pretty responsive system but a decent display at best.

Constant blue screen crashes, Dell warranty for exchange is only 30 days. Dell tech support is utter garbage. Dell is definitely just banking of the Alienware reputation of old. Don't waste your time or money

Unfortunately, I received a hair dryer instead of the laptop. It took months and a letter to the better business bureau for best huh to take back the hair dryer and credit me. I did end up buying the laptop and love it; however would not buy from best buy!

Excellent Thus Far

I have to say, I picked up this machine yesterday. It has been exceptional thus far. Also, I am not a normal Alienware person. I have purposely steered away from the brand, but this one has been top-notch thus far. I wish the screen was a smidge brighter, but other than that, it has been great. The salesman swore up and down the laptop did not have a numpad. I love numpads. It has been very stable, runs fast and has not been hot to the touch. We see in the long term if all of this holds up and the laptop goes into my Hall of Fame for laptops.

I got an excellent open box. So far it works great. Really comfortable, great graphics, probably the best I have ever had. I had to buy a new bag thought since it is bigger than my old one.

Worst computer and worst support ever

I bought my m18 at Best Buy and immediately had major problems. It rebooted for no reason a handful of times in two weeks. It often cannot be woken from sleep and must be power cycled, especially when connected to an external monitor. Sent it back to Dell for repairs. They returned it with the backplane USB port not working and dents in the lid! The sent out a field service tech to repair that, but the computer still has major issues waking it from sleep. These issues have been going on for 2 months now. Dell sent me a replacement unit that has the same problems. Their support structure is the worst ever, where no team knows anything about what the other teams are doing. And god forbid you should end up talking with the Advanced Resolution Team. They apologize profusely but ultimately, accomplish nothing. They won't compensate me for my many hours of work on this issue, and haven't provided a working system.
DO NOT BUY!

This review is for my experience with Best Buy in Humble, Texas, regarding their attempted bait and switch.
This unit is listed as having a mechanical keyboard, but this unit comes with the standard Series M keyboard, not the Cherry MX they want you to think. Alienware does not refer to their standard keyboard as mechanical, because it isn't. But, take a look in the product description, and it certianly claims this unit has a mechanical keyboard. Outright false advertising.
I called Best Buy and asked, flat out, does this unit have the Cherry MX keyboard. The person said yes. I asked to reconfirm because I was driving an hour and a half to the store, and they reconfirmed, so I ordered it and went to pick it up.
I drove an hour and a half to the Humble, Texas, Best Buy location, only to discover, yep, they didnt have the computer they had just sold me, they tried to pass off the standard keyboard as some type of mechanical keyboard. The Cherry MX is the mechanical keyboard, not the standard.
When I called them out for it, I was given excuse after excuse, largely some version of, "Sorry, our call center is dumb." That...doesn't cut it. I spent three hours driving today for Best Buy to attempt to hit me with a bait and switch. The worst part is they took no responsibility, saying statements like, "Sorry, the call center's actions are out of my hands."
I mentioned that the description on the product page on Best Buy's website reads mechanical, and one worker got defensive and attempted to split hairs, arguing that there's different types of mechanical, so while the listing was dishonest, it isn't an outright lie. He literally called their own listing dishonest, because it is...which is my point.
A. No, this keybaord isnt mechanical, it's the standard keyboard, not the mechanical upgrade. This hair splitting attempt was an outright lie, this is not a laptop with a mechanical keyboard, this has the standard keyboard.
B. Even if that was true (which again, complete lie, Alienware doesn't even call their standard keyboard mechanical), you're honestly fine with treating your customers in such an admittedly dishonest way? The listing (which again, is a lie) should have been changed by now.
This laptop has two keyboard options, the standard and the mechanical. This one is standard. The listing shouldn't say mechanical. Period.
Notice how no one seems able to answer if the keyboard is the Cherry MX? The Dell Team will respond to all these other answers, but for months now, those questions remain unanswered. Why?
I answered the questions myself. They wont post my response because they are trying to bait and switch you.
Everyone, even the manger, had their go to excuse. "Call center."
The Humble, Texas, Best Buy is pathetic and predatory. Avoid.

Great for gaming using only the laptop display

Great for gaming on the laptop screen. Due to the way the laptop was designed, it puts the CPU in passive mode when using an external display to play games on.
