Great sound, love the android operating system. Makes a great bedroom alarm clock. Great when sleeping. Only thing I wish it had was remote and sleep timer on radio/sound.

    This thing absolutely will fail.

What a shame - the Aluratek Stream internet radio should be the perfect solution for anyone wanting effortless access to whatever music they want to hear. It has all the features I was looking for in an internet radio - Pandora, Tune-in (for listening to any radio station that streams online), even internal storage of .mp3s. When I bought it, I read numerous reviews about how unreliable it is, so I waited a while to post this review. Within a few days, the Wi-Fi connection started dropping out once or twice a day, and the only way to restore it was to unplug the radio (it won't start if it's plugged in!) and restart it, then plug it back in. Annoying, but not crippling. The end came this morning. I wanted to lower the volume. The volume buttons have become unresponsive. In fact, all the buttons on top have become unresponsive. The touch screen has become unresponsive! The radio cannot be controlled in any way, for any function. I can't even turn it off. I unplugged it, and am waiting for the battery to die. Take it from me - don't buy the Aluratek Stream internet radio. You might get a few weeks of enjoyment out of it, as I did, but it will soon fail. Not "might fail" - it will absolutely become an unusable chunk of plastic.

    This thing is unintentionally AMAZING!!!

When I bought this for my dad for Father's Day, I bought it not knowing what exactly to expect. The box shows a proprietary user interface that's specific to this device alone. However it said on the box that it has 4 GB of space for music, and there are 20+ apps you could download for it, so I figured I had nothing too much to lose with this. Little did I know, this little receiver is actually powered by ANDROID!!! Basically what that means is, you can use various tricks to access the full-blown Android operating system, and even the Google Play Store. This means I can use apps like YouTube, Skype, Plex and even the web browser that comes with Android! Of course, Aluratek did not mean for people to use it that way, so none of this is accessible from the proprietary interface that comes with it. So to get to other parts of Android, you hold down the Home button at the bottom of the screen, which will bring up the shortcut for Google Now. This will give you access to Google Search, as well as the Play Store, and all the Android apps that are installed on the device! By downloading and running one of the System Information apps for Android, I've figured out that this unit comes with a 1.5 quad-core processor, which is amazing for a device like this, but it only has 512 MB of RAM. That makes navigating through everything really slow. At the same time though, it's pretty much expected because you're never going to use this player to play Minecraft PE (even though technically speaking this device could probably run that app). All in all, this is a VERY fun toy for techies to mess around with, and I highly recommend it for any Android enthusiast. The only downside with it is the small amount of RAM, which makes it pretty laggy at times, but as I said before, this product is not meant to be used as a full-on Android device. I'd personally love to see an updated version of this same unit with a more robust UI that gave you access to more features of Android, along with increased RAM and storage. As it is though, I had a lot of fun with this device and I'm sure my dad will love using it as well. :)

    Love the portability

This Internet radio player offers what other devices do, yet it's unique in of itself. The sound quality is very good for its size. It has a good selection of music apps to choose from (available on a backup list), but I found myself using TuneIn, IHeartRadio, and A----n music the most. What I really like about this player is its portability. Not only does it have a small and slender size, it also has a built in battery. I normally have it plugged in and use it in my bedroom, but if I want to listen to music in the kitchen, I can unplug it and take it anywhere without having to take the power cord with it...and I can get a good amount of play time without it being plugged in (The longest I had it play unplugged was an hour and I'm sure I could have gone longer). I'm happy with my purchase.

    Great Concept, Poor Quality

To mirror some of the other reviews here, this is really an Android tablet with speakers attached. It runs pretty much every streaming service, including SiriusXM (which required an update.) However, the quality of the touchscreen is in question. Mine died within hours of initial use. Back to the store it went. If the touchscreen was of better quality I would give this product 5 stars especially at the 59.99 price point I paid.

    Android tablet in disguise

Runs android kitkat. Voice control is a little sluggish. Was able to install and run Netflix and Hulu plus without any issues. Sound is quite decent for a clock radio. Was on sale for $59.99 and is totally worth the price.

    Did not match my needs

Bought this product to be used as a bedside alarm clock and wifi music player. The music player part worked adequately. Sound was ok (not exactly Hi-Fi). I even liked the additional functions (access to weather, social media, calendar). However, even though the display could be dimmed and even had a nighttime setting, the display was WAY TOO BRIGHT. Especially since it was right next to my bed. I would recommend this for someone looking to use this in a small office or small room in ones home. Just not as a bedside alarm clock.

    Not bad

For what it is, it not that bad. It simply works. (four months now) I got it hooked up to Logitech Z623 speakers in the kitchen where we spend most of our time. On good source material it sounds better than I would expect. All of the incoming streams are low resolution , of course, but totally okay for background music. We mostly use Pandora and iHeartRadio for the source of the audio streams. I wish that this company would upgrade it for a more audiophile audience. It would increase the cost but us music lovers do not care that much. There are such devices out there but over $500 each.

nice but not a valuable addition

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It is charming. If the weather had the temperature also and the bottom sub-woofer were not so delicate so it was more transportable perhaps it would be valuable enough. It does get weather.com through the voice activated goggle search. I got it cheaper but I might return it. I do not use it much because my computers do everything it does better. If you have a network for streaming, you have a computer. I have three. The voice recognition did not work right setting the nice alarms. The sound decent for an item of its size is not very good.

    Poor Excuse for Technology

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

While the idea of an Internet Radio based on the Android operating system is great, the operating system is Android 4 (about 5 years old) and the radio runs out of memory trying to update the apps to current. I was able to get Sirius XM, Pandora and Amazon Music downloaded before running out of memory but none would work with the services. Best bet is your phone and a bluetooth speaker...returning this item.

This is the coolest radio ever! No more trying to tune in an AM or FM Signal. I connected it to my wifi router at home and I had a bunch of apps to choose from to stream my internet radio. There are a lot of other cool features but I just like the radio feature. Sounds great for the size and I like the rechargeable battery feature to take this outside with me by the pool. Thank you for a great product Aluratek and Bestbuy!

The battery charge only lasts a few hrs so it needs to be plugged in if you want the alarm to work in the am. Also sleep mode needs to be set to never or the alarm will not go off. After installing 3 apps I got memory full error message???? What the heck?

I have had this unit now for about three weeks and I am throwing it out today. I bought it on a whim to replace my UE smartradio. It sounds like a tin can, loses wifi signal all the time and the clock is so small it's unable to be seen when music is playing. It takes forever for buttons to respond to the touch and even longer for the program to load. Also the memory is not expandable and fills up quickly.

I purchased the radio to listen to talk stations overnight. It connects with iheart or Sirius or TuneIn, but stops and goes silent sporadically. I have to restart it to get it working again, which means turning on the display. The light wakes up my wife. It is also very slow changing stations or apps. My wifi connection is good with very fast speed, so it isn't a reception issue. Overall poor product.

    So Far So Good

This radio has been performing to standards, however I've only had it a couple of days. Battery life for me has been about 5 hours. I also found if you don't bog it down with excess apps or downloads and just use it for streaming, it works well. Wireless connection has been good and I've had minimal drop outs which could be the result of my network. Happy so far!

I bought this radio 6 months ago and at first it worked great, but now I have to leave the radio plugged in for it to turn on. If I remove the charging cord the unit will shut off in seconds. Battery shows fully charged. Also has trouble finding internet. Lots of buffering.
