I was disappointed this would not connect directly to the dock of my 30 pin iPod compatible speaker system, but it did connect via the 1/8 inch pin jack in the back. It is powered by an internal battery requiring periodic charging, another less than desirable feature. It's not inexpensive, at close to $30., but is cheaper than replacing the whole speaker system
