Pick another stove
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If the stove is on the highest setting for longer than a few minutes the temperature starts to drop on the eye. It’s very unusual. I also do not like the timer feature it beeps very low for a few seconds and that’s all. You never hear it again. This makes it extremely easy for food to burn if you’re not constantly checking the timer. The way the timer works on this stove, you might as well set the alarm on you cellphone if you want to actually be reminded to stop cooking your dish. I do not like this unit!

Can't boil water
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can't keep the water boiling, or anything else that needs high heat for that matter. Instead of just limiting the temperature itself, they cycle on and off. This means it will shut off for a few minutes, then come back on at full strength for a few minutes, etc. The danger of overheating they're designed to prevent is still there, just only half the time. Yes, I've tried reducing the setting to 9 or 8, etc. as some have suggested - it still cycles on/off when it gets up to temperature. Don't blame Amana, though. It's the incompetent UL organization that started forcing these temp sensing coils on us in 2018 to protect us from ourselves. Any other brand with coil burners will have the same issue. Best thing to do is avoid the coil-type electric ranges altogether. I only wish I'd converted to gas when I had the opportunity.

Save yourself and buy a different stove
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This stove is the worst we've ever used. The coils don't stay hot. They heat up for about 1 minute and then get so cold that you can almost touch the coils without burning yourself. Save yourself the trouble and get a different stove. I've been emailing Amana's customer service for months and they've yet to give me an actual solution. They just reiterate that it's "normal" for the stove to behave that way. How can anyone cook when the stove is cold for 90% of your cooking time?? I'll update the review if anything changes but at this point, it doesn't look like Amana's actually willing to help in any way.

Posted .Coil elements on new electric and freestanding ranges have changed starting in June 2018. Ranges and cooktops using this type of burner are now equipped with temperature-limiting coils. This change is due to updated UL (Underwriters Laboratory) standards. This change will be standard for all brands and all replacement parts as well.
The outer element coils will remain on all the time but may appear to not "glow" as strongly as your previous element. The inner coil will cycle on and off and glow red when it is cycling on. It will glow, then turn off and on, as the burner is being used. This is a normal operation.
