    Why the surprise? Well, I'm a FireTv owner. So, while I know what the platform is capable of, given the relative size and power requirements, I didn't have too much expectations besides that the stick be portable and be able to maintain a good wifi connection. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see it hold up a lot better and have good video performance. Is it as smooth, fast, or powerful as the FireTv? No. It will lag while navigating menus. If you're used to it's more powerful sibling, you'll need to temper your expectations of it's responsiveness. Also, you'll notice a bad network connection a lot sooner with the stick. But it does have good range and with a ok connection, once you have video playing, you have a great streaming device. For the price, it's hard to beat the features and partner support of the Fire tv stick. It supports connectivity to HBO, Hulu, Netfix, as well as several other providers. At the time I last check, of all the streaming "sticks", this had the most mainstream provider support.

    I purchased this device because I am interested in cutting my cable off. Although it's a pretty good device and a positive step in the direction of cutting the cord, it does not completely allow me to disconnect the cable company. I still consider it a good device and pleased that I purchased it.
