We have to use the extender to get the fire stick plugged into the TV. Since using it the TV now turns on by itself randomly, all the time. Turn it off and within about 3 minutes it turns back on. After weeks of trying everything we realized that the extender is what’s causing the glitch. So now the tv has to be turned off by unplugging it from the wall, major inconvenience.

We understand how inconvenient it must be to have to unplug the TV from the wall each time, and we'd like to share some troubleshooting steps that may help resolve this without needing to take that extra step.
The issue you're describing is most likely related to a feature called HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). This is a communication protocol that allows devices connected via HDMI to control each other, and it is what enables the Fire TV Stick to turn your TV on and off automatically. When using an HDMI extender, this signal can sometimes behave unpredictably, causing the TV to power on by itself. To address this, navigate to Settings on your Fire TV Stick, then select Display & Sounds, followed by HDMI CEC Device Control. From there, you can turn off the HDMI CEC Device Control option entirely. This will prevent the Fire TV Stick from sending power signals to your TV through the HDMI connection, which should stop the TV from turning on randomly. You will need to use your TV's original remote to turn the TV on and off manually, but this is a much simpler solution than unplugging the TV from the wall.
If disabling HDMI-CEC on the Fire TV Stick does not fully resolve the issue, you may also want to check your TV's own settings menu for a similar HDMI-CEC or HDMI device link option and disable it there as well, as older TVs can sometimes have their own version of this feature that may be contributing to the problem. Additionally, try replacing the HDMI extender with a different one, as a faulty or low-quality extender cable can cause signal interference that triggers the TV to power on. If possible, test plugging the Fire TV Stick directly into the TV's HDMI port without the extender to confirm whether the extender is indeed the source of the issue. If the Fire TV Stick does not fit directly into the HDMI port due to spacing, a shorter, high-quality HDMI extender may provide a more stable connection than the one currently being used.

Only draw back is that the buttons are super sensitive. I'll go to set the remote on a table after turning off the TV, and if I place the remote face down it always causes one of the streaming service buttons on the bottom to be pressed.
