No extensive set ups required. This is smaller and more portable than the Fire tv, which is why I went with it. You need to have a streaming service membership to use (Netflix, Prime, etc). You can also mirror what's on your tv/iPad to watch on your tv. I lost the small Alexa remote the first day. But you can download a remote app for your phone, so all good.
