This processor is great for those looking to purchase some real power while keeping the budget in check. Perfectly balances price to performance while also bringing value to the table by being on the previous Ryzen AM4 platform.

    8 Core Gaming Beast

One of the best gaming CPU currently available. With a solid cooler I am seeing stable boost clocks to 4.9GHz. Higher all core boost clocks than the 5900x can sustain. Wicked fast IPC. The hype was real, the reviews are real, this CPU is a beast and in the purpose of a gaming system, this is absolutely one the best CPU overall that money can buy. Cons: Cooling, requires a solid cooler to keep up with this CPU because it puts out serious heat. Granted this isn't an issue for some, and you do get performance for the heat it puts out, BE READY FOR IT. Don't cheap out, don't hope that a mid-range air cooler can do the job. Bring your cooling A-game because this thing will put it to the test. Aside from that, it's a bit pricey, and in my opinion it's slightly overpriced. AMD has traditionally been a "value brand", so the perception that this is a performance part is certainly dictated by price, I just don't like it as I viewed Intel CPU's as already overpriced. If you take the subjective relative opinion about price out of the equation, this is not so much of a con, as a gripe. Overall Review: Price gripe aside, I absolutely recommend this CPU. It stands alone as king of the gaming hill. If you get a 5900x, you stand to lose some practical gaming performance as developers are not efficiently optimizing 12 threads, let alone 16. Stepping up in core counts is a good move for productivity and applications that are multithreaded above 16, but for gaming, the high IPC, higher sustained boosts, and unique thermal profile and performance makes this the best gaming CPU known to mankind for the moment. We'll see what Rocketlake truly brings to the table, and what that value equation looks like. If you just want to be team red, this CPU doesn't let you down. If you're just looking to do your upgrade today and are fine with future hardware being comparable or changing the value equation, you'll be satisfied with this purchase.

Top Performance CPU, Could be a Little Cheaper

I read a lot about the 5800x running really hot, for me it runs only 3-4 degrees hotter than the 3700x it replaced. That's under typical moderate to high work loads using a front case mounted 280mm AIO water cooler. But this was the same setup I was running the 3700x under as well. Most importantly it runs at its advertised speeds, while the 3700x never did reach its advertised boost speed. Even with it running a little hotter in my setup, I really don't mind as long as it doesn't throttle down, to which it does not. It stays at it boost speed while running bench marks

AMD is Ryzen - A New King in Town

This is my first AMD CPU, and I purchased this after using an i5 3570K with a heavy overclock for the last 8 years. I am extremely impressed with the performance this CPU brings, especially when paired with competent cooling and great RAM. My entire system is blazing fast, and receiving 8C/16T thanks to AMD competition is great. In CPU limited titles, this thing is screaming past my old CPU and even above the i9 10900K. When I first bought my Intel CPU, AMD was considered a joke for CPUs; now, the roles are reversed and Intel is constantly mocked for their 14nm++++ approach, even if they remained king of single core performance... Until now. AMD, for this generation, is now king of all CPU applications. I absolutely love this CPU. Good luck to everyone trying to grab one - it's definitely a hot commodity. My only complaint about the 5800X is the price: it could definitely stand to be just a little cheaper (~$50).

Great CPU, but MSRP price is a bit odd.

Great chip. PCIe Gen4 support. Strong Solid performance in single and multi-threaded applications and reasonably power efficient. I don't think it's AMD's best value however. The only reason I got it was I couldn't get an Ryzen 9 5900X -- at least for anywhere near MSRP. It's MSRP $100 more, but you get almost 40% more performance in threaded workloads for a 20% higher cost, making it a better value in my opinion. On the other end, the Ryzen 5 5600X is over 30% less and is for the most part right on the heels of the 5800X in gaming performance, and moderately close in multi-threaded application making it arguably a much better value in that regard. I ended up getting the 5800X as it was on sale, making it a better value option. However, if we're comparing by MSRP, while the Ryzen 7 5800X is a great chip, depending on your budget the Ryzen 5 5 5600X or the Ryzen 9 5900X offer better value. In normal times I would've gone thr Ryzen 9 5900X route....

Are you looking for the best processor without breaking the bank? Then the Ryzen 7 5800x might be the choice for you. With its 8 cores and 16 threads it can accomplish anything you throw at it. Whether it be gaming, video editing or productivity, it can handle it all while still having plenty of spare performance to spare!

Heck yeah, I would suggest this chip. The price wasn't outragous and the chip worked far better than expected. Just not sure where the "Graphical" part that was discussed works but I am sure that a buyer won't be disappointed. Only complaint is that my first purchase was DOA and I had to 'figure' out that it was this processor that didn't work but after an exchange, I couldn't be happier.

Incredibly powerful CPU for the price point. Runs hotter than my Ryzen 5 5600x prior to upgrading even on idle, but found out that’s normal for the 7 series. Don’t worry about it at all when you get high idle temps. You got a beast of a CPU and it’ll get the job done for you especially for the price point.

At the time of purchase, it is/was excellent 'bang for the buck' CPU, offering excellent performance across multiple applications without bank-breaking pricing that the leading edge processors collect. Note that at the time of this writing, both Intel and AMD are preparing to release their next generation products, so factor this in your consideration.

This CPU has been excellent for me. I upgraded from a Ryzen 5 3600 and have been extremely pleased with the performance of this new chip. If you're looking for a good last gen CPU, this is a great option if you can find a good deal on it. I was able to get this for $250 brand new, which is insane bang for buck.

Upgrade /replaced my old AMD 8350 still was a beast of a machine. This thing kills it right out of the box. Cinebench test doesn’t even show a intel even remotely close. Little more expensive than I would like but on par with msrp. Don’t was your time with pc4000 with this I had picked up some since they say this processor and a mb support it but after updating bios and what not I had to go in and manually enter the ram it would always get it wrong and keep crashing out on powering on. The 5000 cpus come to find out like Pc3600 cl16 ram the best. You can down clock the other and make it work but for price go with the 3600

This processor is great, fast and runs very nice with my RTX 3080. The one thing I will note that you must be aware of is that this model does run the hottest of the 5000 chips. THe 5800x and the 5900x both have the same TDP but the 5800x has less die, which means less space to dissipate heat. Make sure to get a very good air cooler or minimum 240mm Liquid cooler. OTher than that one caveat I think its an amazing value especially now that the prices have come down. You should be able to get this CPU for $379 like I did, you just have to hunt for it.

Put this into a new build. So far it is performing great! The system it replaced was so old there was no valid comparison. I did a bunch of research and decided on this CPU as it was rated very high on performance per dollar. I would recommend this CPU with no reservations.

While the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D with 3D V-Cache outperforms the 5800X in some gaming scenarios, it cannot be overclocked. The Ryzen 5800X3D is currently selling for around $450.00 while this processor is selling for around $310.00. If you are looking for computational power or virtual machines this is a better value.

I have found this process to be well worth the money running very quickly with all the games I play it's very good with its processing speeds and has clocks for a lot of multitasking. Go the CPU was created to be easy to overclock I have never done so as I find the performance in the non-overclocked mode exceeds any expectations I had originally.

Awesome processor, great power and value for your money, no complaints here other than the CPU runs a little hot for my liking but this is not due to a bad design, in fact the design allows it to achieve great overclock speeds but also keeps it very warm. I would definitely recommend it but also watch your temps and use a big AIO cooler for it.
