    Ryzen 7 5800XT — The Last Great AM4 Warrior

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT is exactly what it claims to be — a refined, last-hurrah upgrade for the legendary AM4 platform. If you’re already rocking a B450, B550, or X570 motherboard and want a noticeable boost without switching to AM5, this chip is an easy “yes.” Performance-wise, it’s impressive. The 8 cores and 16 threads handle gaming, streaming, and multitasking like a champ. Clock speeds hit 4.8 GHz on boost, and it stays smooth even under load. In real-world use, games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Warzone run buttery with solid frame times when paired with a good GPU. Productivity tasks — video editing, compiling, or 3D rendering — also benefit from the higher boost frequencies over the older 5800X. Thermals are decent but not amazing. You’ll want a solid air cooler or a 240mm AIO, especially if you plan to push it. Power draw is a bit higher than the original 5800X, but that’s the tradeoff for extra performance. What makes it shine most is value — if you already own an AM4 board, this chip breathes new life into your system without breaking the bank. However, if you’re building from scratch, you might want to look at Ryzen 7000 or Intel 14th Gen instead — they offer better futureproofing. Pros: ✅ Excellent performance for gaming and productivity ✅ Strong single-core boost up to 4.8 GHz ✅ Great final upgrade for AM4 owners ✅ Unlocked for overclocking Cons: ❌ Runs a bit hot under load ❌ Not ideal for new builds (AM4 is end-of-life) ❌ Limited upgrade path beyond this CPU Verdict: ⭐ 4.5/5 – The Ryzen 7 5800XT is the ultimate AM4 send-off — powerful, reliable, and still relevant in 2025. If you’re not ready to jump to AM5 yet, this chip is your best bet.

This CPU comes with a heat sink and fan, nice LED lights in it. Also has some thermal paste included but would be a good idea to purchase some additional as it's not much and it didn't look good quality, Installation was easy, glad it had the heat sink as with the new motherboard the my old one no longer fit. I read that some say the fan it a bit noisy, I don't notice it. Runs very well with the MSI Tomahawk board all without breaking the bank.

I installed the AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT as an upgrade on an existing AM4 system, and the installation process was simple and straightforward. The CPU dropped into the socket easily, the retention arm locked without any issues, and it worked perfectly with my existing AM4 cooler. No extra hardware or adjustments were needed. After installation, the system booted without problems and recognized the processor immediately. Performance has been very solid in daily use and gaming. Applications load quickly, multitasking is smooth, and the system feels responsive overall. The 8 cores and 16 threads provide more than enough power for demanding workloads, and boost speeds perform as expected under load. So far, stability has been excellent with no crashes or compatibility issues. Overall, the Ryzen 7 5800XT was easy to install and delivers reliable, strong performance, making it a good choice for anyone upgrading or building on the AM4 platform.

steady and still keeps up with the higher end gamer rigs, no issues and this was a build for my girlfriend. still scores decent with 3dmark and still plays the new games with no hiccups. AMD has been my builder goto especially for the price compared to the competition. AMD chips tend to un a little hot but the supplied coolers work well, especially if you are not overlooking

Great value for an AM4 socket set!

I was looking to stay in the AM4 branch of socket sets due to the Ram shortage and prices being crazy high as of this review. I paired this with a new RTX 5070 for a bit of an upgrade of my current build. I will say it is a night and day difference! The CPU has more than enough power for my 1080p gaming specs and does very well when bumped to 2K also! I have been playing quite a bit of battlefield 6 and saw quite the improvement of more stable frames of both this and the graphics card listed above! I will say the fan that comes with this CPU is a bit on the louder side but it keeps the temps very manageable and I have no worries of overheating. Just be aware if you’re somebody who isn’t huge on fan noise, consider a third party cooler. Overall I’m very pleased with my purchase and am thrilled to see my PC running how it was during the COVID era of games!

Was waiting on a X3D to rerelease but decided to buy this instead and I do not regret it. According to my benchmarks, it is slightly below the X3D in some of the games I play so the wait, imo, is not worth it. This is the best bang for buck for the AM4 platform considering DDR4 is more affordable than the astronomic DDR5 price hike. I paired this with my 7900xt and Killing Floor 2 (older game) is hitting almost 400fps at 1440p. Amazing! AM4 is here to stay for awhile until the AI bubble bursts, so this is the best CPU for the AM4 platform at the moment.

    Excellent CPU for AM4 Upgrade

This was a great upgrade from a Ryzen 5 5500. Excellent value for an AM4 upgrade. I am able to get 300-400 fps in competitive titles with my RX 6600 graphics card. The CPU itself was perfect and installation was very easy. Temps aren't too high with a single fan air cooling tower, but I haven't tried it with the stock cooler, as I've heard that it can run a bit hot with just that. My cooler was under $30 though, so it's probably worth the investment. Overall a great purchase!

I own two Ryzen 7 5800X CPUs—one in my main gaming rig and another powering my dedicated streaming machine—and I honestly can’t recommend it enough. If you're looking for top-tier performance without breaking the bank, this chip is a beast. Whether it's high-FPS gaming, multitasking, or live streaming with video encoding, the 5800X handles it all like a champ. In my experience, it consistently delivers smooth gameplay and reliable performance across every title I throw at it—from AAA games to emulators—while my streaming PC churns through OBS and video rendering tasks effortlessly. What really makes the 5800X stand out is just how much value you get for the price. You're getting 8 cores and 16 threads of pure performance built on the efficient Zen 3 architecture. For both gaming and productivity, it continues to be one of the best bang-for-your-buck CPUs you can buy today. That said, there’s one thing to know: it runs hot. Not dangerously so, but hot enough that you need a good cooler—don’t cheap out here. I use quality aftermarket air coolers and my temps stay in check even under full load. If you pair this CPU with the right cooling, it’s an absolute powerhouse.

This chip works like a dream, fast, stays cool, and it can handle a lot. My old cpu was slowing down and was old and it was time for an upgrade. This was definitely worth the money consider if you’re looking for a copy that won’t break the bank.

I have it paired with a 7600XT and it runs everything I throw at it at 4k. Just to name a few: Black Myth Wukong, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Hogwarts Legacy, Monster Hunter Wilds, all running 144fps on high/ultra settings and FSR capable when needed. The cooler it comes with is pretty good too! If you’re looking for a higher end CPU that can handle modern gaming, this is the best for its value right now!

Upgraded to this cpu as my i7 9700k was not handling multitasking very well with the 5070 gpu i had purchased. While not being too much more powerful then my old cpu, this 5800xt pairs well with my gpu and allows me to play modern games while running other tasks without lag or bottleknecking my build as much as the i7 9700k did while overclocked.

It's a great value of a CPU. I did have some issues where I had to warranty it but it appears it was a one off issue and AMD directly took great care of me. 1 email and I got a shipping label and 1 week later there was a CPU on my doorstep.
