It was kinda corny. Its more like a comedy than a horror movie.

Yet another money grab we just have to have. All new transfer. New objects brought to light. See things like you've never seen them before. Yawn. Bought the limited edition expecting a decent viewing experience of an excellent story and special effects. Popped it into my 4k player to watch on my 85" Sony X900F and lo and behold the picture quality is an utter shame. An embarrassment to the medium. Like watching through a swarm of flies buzzing behind a screen door. From the opening scene the grain literally blankets the picture from edge to edge. Any increased color fidelity or shadow detail is rendered negligible by the swath of filthy grain. Somehow, film traditionalists will extol the virtues of this catastrophe of a transfer. Much like they did with the box set of Donnie Darko that likewise suffers from insufferable grain. Don't buy the hype. If films like Apocalypse Now and Kubrick's 2001 can be brought back to glorious life with today's technology then movies like AAWiL prove for all eternity that a lousy original will beget lousy upgrades. This movie is terrifically entertaining but the video quality renders it utterly a waste of money. Rent it on your streaming service. Pick up an old copy of the last transfer. If you want this movie do whatever you want but avoid the dip, dip, and another dip of the movies multiple renditions only to be left with a grain-sodden junk of a transfer.

i was 17 when this movie came out in the fall of 1981 i thought it was the coolest movie i had ever seen and i still think that btw rick backer won awards for the practical effects in this film....it is a classic great acting music atmosphere everything a movie like this should be it was ahead of it's time and i still prefer effects like the ones in this film vs many other that are popular today. i have this movie on vhs dvd and now on blu-raythis is horror at it's very best....

Old Fashioned Monster Movie With Great Effects

The effects in this movie still hold up against todays movies. The transformation scene. is worth the price alone. If you know this movie then buy the movie. Its still worth watching again and again. If you havent seen it and you are a horror buff then you are missing out on the gold standard of werewolf movies.

    An American Classic

John Landis' "An American Werewolf in London" is a hilarious, horrifying, ingenious take on the werewolf genre, and its legacy will likely stand the test of time. Originally intended to star John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, Landis' good friends, budget concerns due to the film's very unique tone led to a different cast that greatly benefited the final film, which maintains laughs while bringing honest scares along with the killer soundtrack and amazing special effects work by the legendary Rick Baker. The amount of extras included on this release make it worth just about anything they'd want to charge for it, but it's almost always under $10. A fantastic release.

    One scary punim

All I have to say is..."A naked American man stole my balloonknot"...(boy in the zoo) This is a classic horror movie...still scary as heck 25 years later. Great effects for the time and still impressive. Give me Rick Baker over CGI any day...(we'll see how he does with the new Wolf Man). A considerable gripe however...when David is trying to get the Constable (who's responstable) to arrest him he gives up too easliy. He simply confesses to the murders and then makes a few disparaging comments about the Royal Family (albeit probably accurate). He then gives up on trying to get arrested??? Why not slug the Bobby in the kisser?!? Anything to get arrested, steal a car...etc...??? That notwithstanding, great movie!!!

Although there is no reason to throw your older Blu-ray disk away for this one, this edition makes some nice additions to the last DVD version. This disk is as high resolution as the original source material allows.

The best werewolf film of all time, and one of the best horror films of all time. Even if you already own An American Werewolf In London on blu-ray, this great Steelbook packaging makes it worth having a 2nd copy.

Horror classic that defies the genre

Perhaps this is such a unique horror classic b/c it was directed by a director of comedies, since he was able to provide a fresh perspective? Either way, it's a classic and must own!
