Move over Indiana Jones, here comes Robert Langdon

5 of 5 Stars rating for the movie version of Dan Brown's book Angels and Demons. This book is considered to be the #1 book in the Robert Langdon series as it was written before Da Vinci Code. However, with sales & marketing, most people assume Da Vinci Code is #1. A&D happens before the Da Vinci code. However, Ron Howard & team decided to make A&D happen after DVC in the timeline with several references to DVC. BTW, The Lost Symbol is considered #3 in the series happening after both DVC and A&D. The story opens at CERN with a group of scientists trying to create anti-matter in large quantities. There are references to finding the "god" particle. We soon learn that one of the scientists is killed and his eye used to gain access to the secure room with the anti-matter. One large container (magnetic enclosure container) was stolen. Flash forward to Robert Langdon's apartment where a Vatican police officer approaches Langdon to come to Rome to help with an investigation. Well, it is an active case with four kidnapped Cardinales who are to be killed one each hour leading up to midnight when a (anti-matter) bomb will destroy the Vatican. At this time, the current Pope has died (humm, maybe murdered?) and traditional efforts are happening to pick the new Pope. Oh, the four Cardinales are the four leading contenders for the role of new Pope. Why Langdon? Ah, the people claiming to cause this are the Illuminati of which Langdon has been working on a book about them. Langdon performs some quick research in the Vatican Archives to learn where to start the search for the Cardinales. As with Da Vinci Code, Langdon's search is lead by symbols and history. As he chases each of the four victims, he is too late for most.' The cool thing about this story is that it takes place within 12 hours of real-time. It is fast paced, exciting, good action with Langdon becoming more of an Indiana Jones with some of the action. The Langdon character is deeply and richly described and is likely to become iconic much like Jones. As before with Da Vinci, Dan Brown's deep research and crafting of historical facts and locations to meet his needs for the story is impressive. It is interesting to note that all of the Vatican scenes were created in LA as they couldn't get permission to film. Scenes of other locations around Rome were shot on-site. The detail and richness of the sets and costumes is amazing! Tom Hanks as Langdon is wonderful and he is well on his way to being an icon. I can only hope that Howard/Hanks are working on the Lost Symbol. I highly recommend Angels and Demons it is now on my favorites list. I specially recommend the Blu-Ray 3 disk set with an entire disk of behind-the-scenes materials.

    Science vs Christianism

First up, thank you Best Buy for including this in your BF and the 4-day before the BF sale...I think it's one of the best BD deal this holiday shopping season. I've read the book twice and I was expecting the film adaptation to be exactly as what it is in the prints. But no, there were some tweaks that don't clear up the plot. I suggest that people read the book first (for those who never went to the theaters to watch it) before watching it. The film atmosphere is the closest one can be to the Catholicism's seat. It feels like you've watched a travel channel program or something. Acting-wise, Hanks was really into it. And add the other A-list (lesser-known) actors and what we have is a great acting team. If you would take notice above as I stated in the "what's not so great", you would probably agree with me if you've read the book first. I mean, I don't want to be a spoiler so I suggest you read the first few pages of the book and there you will find the answer, well explained, why it seemed to really happen in a 24-hour period. I rate this film a B+... PS: The BD-format is fantastic as is with the included extras and the audio book.

Saw the movie and read the book long ago. The movie ending is better than the book ending, which I had trouble with when rerading. The book, overall, was better. Despite what the review on the site says, this is the prequel to the DaVinci Code (DC) and, if my memory while reading it serves me correctly, The DC book referred back to Angels & Demons, specifically Vittoria Vetra. That however, takes nothing away from the movie. This movie was more action packed than DC which made for a better movie. The code breaking is always fun and adds a great touch to the books and movies, which continues in the Lost Symbol, the current Langdon book.

Saw this in the movie theater when it was out. The music in the movie is amazing...makes it seem like the music around you and your part of the movie, makes your heart feel the music. The plot is very good and keeps you guessing throughout the movie and the actors/actersess do a great job :) Explosions and graphics are flawless, and if you ahvent seen the movie...you want expect the ending...which is great too..and ironic. I cant wait for the next movie if there is one :) You'll watch this movie over and over and over again

An Excellent Follow-up to The Da Vinci Code

Sony 4K release is a definite upgrade from the previous blu-ray and well worth the price. No special 4K Television required to appreciate it's improvements in video quality. There are no extras or special features on this blu-ray as all of the disc is devoted to giving you the best video possible. This a very engaging film you must pay attention to otherwise you'll be using the rewing button frequently.

This movie is a wonderful movie to watch on Blu-Ray. There are so many fast moving parts and a lot of intricate details, it is definetly worth it! Even though the movie strays from the book, I was incredibly interested the entire time and I will watch this movie over and over again!

    Decent Adaptation

For my money, the movie version is a very decent adaptation of the original novel. Perhaps it is even better than The Da Vinci Code. Where the movie departs from the novel actually improves on the story's believability without taking away from the novel's intent. The viewer will not be disappointed.

Tom Hanks is really beginning to own this character. I really loved being able to see the sites of Rome and it made me want to see more about the Vatican Library.

    Angels & Demons is super!

Went to Angels & Demons feature run opener in Rome 2 days in advance of United States premiere in May at the Warner Village multi cinema theatre. Had a 2 disc version of Da Vinci Code and the 4 disc Blue Ray A&D edtion has a audio book MP3. The digital download to PC and portable player give 2 standard definition copies that will get more play from the release. BD-Live is also include but hasn't connect internet to player yet. A competitive title that meets my expectation and reward my wait for the home theatre release.
